Escape the fast-paced world in the Green Cottage on Morro Bay, a very private Cottage. The Cottage is quiet, cozy and sits next to the water on Morro Bay, California. It is a peaceful and romantic guest hideaway for lovers … lovers of nature, art, thought, books, wine, adventure, discovery, solitude and soul, but especially for those who love and love to nurture themselves. There are no jangling phones, fax machines, blaring TVs, traffic sounds or other intrusions on your retreat.

The Cottage says:

“I have a tale to tell, my very own…won’t you come inside awhile and help me sing my song? I may be just a small beach cottage, but step into my entry and you’ll be welcomed by an eclectic mixture of art and antiques collected by my family over the years and lovingly displayed to create a romantic and intimate environment to inspire you during your stay.'

'I sit on a bird sanctuary on the rural Central Coast of California, where I enjoy unobstructed 280 degree views of the Bay and mountains.

'I offer you the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, in romance, here in 'the middle kingdom' as National Geographic once called my region of California. I am your natural escape, your refuge and your home base for exploring all that is around me and all that is within you.

'Come and stay a spell with me. Read one of my intriguing books filled with short stories or watch one of my many DVDs. Make tea or cook a gourmet meal in my fully equipped kitchen to enjoy by candlelight or under the stars on my kitchen’s deck. Snuggle into my sea foam green king-size bed.

'Curl up with a good book in my corner reading chair, peruse original art on my walls, and discover my handmade baskets and carvings from South America, the South Seas, and local Native Americans. Enjoy a glass of award-winning Central Coast wine as you sit quietly on my deck and watch the pelicans, herons, snowy plovers and peregrine falcons while the sun slips silently into the horizon.

'I have seen and heard many things in my three score and ten years. Like all places where people dwell, there is a spirit here that has been shaped by the personalities, conversations, and temperament of those who have spent time here. I have been occupied by travelers, adventurers, writers, painters, photographers, romantics and naturalists…and by my owners’ four generations of artists and lovers of life. Their presence lingers in the air and invites you to both partake and contribute your own essence to my evolving character.' --- The Green Cottage on Morro Bay

About Pandora Nash-Karner

The Cottage has been in our family for two generations. We have lived on the bay for over three decades and love it, and love to share it with others. The Cottage was originally built to shelter the duck hunters and fishermen who were attracted here, but it was soon bought in the 1950's by our parents and was used as a residence while they built their dream home next door. The Cottage has been our family's guesthouse since then and we've just made it available as a vacation rental. The charm as a family retreat has been retained through the complete refurbishing received in 2009. We have designed the Cottage to provide our guests with the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the Central Coast experience. We are not the Best Western -- just the opposite. What our guests won't find here are ringing phones, blaring TV or fax machines -- all by design, although we do provide wireless internet service and a 38' HDTV for watching DVDs, plus over 300 DVDs to choose from. We want the cottage to provide guests with the ability to ESCAPE the fast-paced world. We've tried to provide everything we can think of to make our guests feel pampered and comfortable.

Pandora Nash-Karner purchased this cottage in 1950

Why Pandora Nash-Karner chose Central Coast California

This has been a private guest house for our family for over 6 decades. When it is not used by the family, it is available for visitors.

What makes this cottage unique

The bay is part of the National Estuary Program, as well as a designated bird sanctuary. There are many places nearby to view birds, including a private dock. Morro Bay is an important stopover on the Pacific Flyway and winter home to numerous bird species. The north coast area of San Luis Obispo County is a haven for artists, wine and food aficionados, water sports enthusiasts, antique collectors, hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and people who appreciate quiet, undiscovered get-away locations. When the lure of open spaces calls you, follow winding country roads to award-winning vineyards for wine tasting, or to grassy hilltops for a picnic overlooking the Pacific. Beautiful Hearst Castle is just 35-minutes away, and beyond that is the splendor of the Big Sur coastline.

San Luis Obispo's initials -- SLO -- precisely describes the speed a visitor should use in examining the area's treasures and pleasures. Go to fast and you'll miss of the off-the beaten path venues hidden back in the hills and canyons like the Pozo Saloon, See Canyon apple farms, Tibor Canyon organic olive oil Ranch or the charming town of Harmony, with a population of 15.

Perfect setting, perfect accommodations

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary in the Green Cottage and could not have asked for a nicer spot. The setting outside from the deck could not be more peaceful with numerous shore birds, a great view of Morro Rock, and the sounds of the breakers from the Ocean. Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. The cottage is clean and comfortable, the fridge is stocked with fresh coffee, and the entire central coast is a short drive away. We will be staying here again!

Highly recomended cottage by the water

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Green Cottage for two and a half very short days. I wish it could have been longer. The cottage is roomy, has lots of great lighting, has tons of personality, all the modern amenities and to top it off has a fabulous view of Morro Rock when the weather cooperates. The owners have this perfect place stocked with one of everything. Just open a drawer and whatever you need is there, from binoculars to bird watch to a fridge stocked with coffee and yogurt. We especially loved the deck and the BBQ. The location is also close to Morro Bay and Montana De Oro. I would highly recommend this charming cottage to anyone.

A delicious respite

  • 5 of 5

We have been wanting to go back to the Green Cottage since we first visited in 2014, and this year we were finally able to return. What a delicious blend of peace, rest, activity, and hospitality! I didn't want to leave.

Here are some of my favorite things:

1. Sipping my coffee in the morning while I sit on the deck and watch the shore birds hunt for breakfast.

2. Having my camera(s) ready before sunrise and near sunset to catch the inimitable light and action.

3. Watching the changing light on the back bay and dunes.

4. Listening to the quiet except for mornings when the Pacific breakers on the other side of the dunes are very loud.

5. Shopping local, especially at the Abundance Thrift Shop and Carlock's Bakery in Los Osos, the new gourmet bread bakery on 3rd street and the farmer's market in around the corner Baywood Park, and the local artist-operated Marina Gallery in nearby Morro Bay.

The hosts are very friendly but never intrusive. Be sure to visit Pandora's pottery studio. She creates unusual pieces that are sculptural but practical, and her enthusiasm is contagious.

The Cottage interior is private, comfortably and beautifully decorated, and lots of information about the area is provided so that you can choose what you want to do the most while you are there: wine tasting, hiking, kayaking, and so on. The area is very walkable, and bicycles like it here as well.

Sometimes when you return to a place you really enjoyed the first time, it isn't the same. But this time only deepened the experience of the last visit, and we can't wait to come back next September and explore even further the area and this wonderful Cottage.

Peaceful Easy Feeling

  • 5 of 5

When we first came upon the Green Cottage it was love at first sight. After spending a couple nights there, it is now true love!! The setting is spectacular and serene. With birds on the bay, birds in the air, birds on the shore, birds everywhere, it is fitting that a song by the Eagles best describes the mood. That song is "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and the Green Cottage did not let us down. We immediately booked two future visits and look forward to returning to our new love.

Owner's Response: WOW! That's all I can say. The Green Cottage has many fans, and it's fairly often people book their next stay while they are still here. But never, has anyone booked their next two stays while still at the Cottage. Over half of our guests are return guests. Our all time champion guests come 4 times a year. We love to hear why our guests love the Cottage so much, but it comes down to peace, quiet, a fabulous view and a spotlessly clean, very cute Cottage. Come see why everyone raves! Visit. Stay. Play like a local!

Owner's Response: We enjoy our Cottage and our guests, and take special delight in providing a spotless home, and lots of little surprises. When in bloom, the flowers are mostly from our garden. We are off the beaten path on a quiet peninsula in a residential area. If you are seeking natural beauty, abundant outdoor activities and a non-touristy area -- you've just found it! Visit. Stay. Play. Relax!

I have been coming to "The Green Cottage" now for over 5 years. A total of at least 10 stays. This cottage is

like a good friend it is always there to nurture you and restore you with its embrace. Every time I return it always has something new to offer the senses. Impeccably clean and maintained. You will leave restored and refreshed.

If you are in the area, it is a must! You cannot beat the view...simply put...The Green Cottage is the Best!

Owner's Response: Tucked between the Coast Range, the Pacific Ocean and right in the middle of Central Coast Wine Country, San Luis Obispo enjoys all the benefits of a life well lived on the California coast. We have two missions, one castle, a bubblegum alley, two lighthouses, lots of trails, art galleries, great restaurants, long beaches and lots of wide open spaces. Come visit our area, on purpose! See why we have been voted the "Happiest Place in America!"
