Also in the Heart of Duck we have a second Victorian Estate: http://thesaltaire.com
There is a neat old fireplace outside. Enjoy a nice nighttime fire or a chilly day and hot chocolate afternoon. There is lots of firewood everywhere for you to gather up and put into it.
The new wooden propane hot tub up by the second pond smells like cedar because it is a cedar hot tub. Please keep it topped off and do not let it get below the inlets. The temperature control for it is up on the deck to it at eye level. Only turn it ONE NOTCH one way or the other to lower it or make it hotter.
Fishing is great in all 3 ponds and you probably can’t fail if you use worms. The creek has some native trout.
The Big Screen Smart TV is in the living room with Cable TV. However the TV in the bedroom is not connected to the cable. There is a VCR and CD player built into the TV in the bedroom with a nice selection of CD’s and VCR Tapes. There are lots of good books as well.
Between the creek and the water system, which flows through the house, you will hear the pretty sound of water running. It should lull you to sleep at night.
The entrance part of the kitchen floor is cold because it was part of the Underground Railroad with a hidden room under there and not part of the basement. The basement and second floor are locked out. You have all 6 big rooms are on the first floor to enjoy.
Appletree Restaurant with good home cooking is at the bottom of Appletree Road on your left. They are located than a mile down the street. They are closed on Mondays. There are some outside tables and they don’t mind when we bring a dog with us.

just returned from Twin Ponds and had a wonderful time. Karen and her entire family were great to deal with leading up to our time there but especially once we were there. They were all so attentive and helpful the entire stay. Don't know where to start. The house is amazing, clean, and comfortable. Well stocked with everything you could need. Love the steam shower and hot tub (which we made extensive use of). We did a fair amount of fishing and for the middle of August is was quite good. I caught a 5-6 lb bass and many crappies and sunfish. One of our main reasons for booking the house was to take our 11 year old lab with us on vacation as we generally go out of the country or somewhere he cannot go. With him approaching old age we wanted him to spend the week with us in the country. He loved it too. All the acreage to roam around on and he really liked the stream for some cool wading. we ate out a lot and reallly recommend Grico's. We ended up eating there twice as the Italian food was fantastic. Liked Sabatini's pizza but didnt get a chance to try the Old Forge style. Evenings in the hot tub were great, so quiet it doesnt feel like there is anyone around. If you want to relax and get away to a peaceful retreat, we would highly recommend Twin Ponds and the Carroll family.
We were searching for a relaxing country getaway in a quiet setting where our dogs would also be welcomed. Our search is over!! We had never rented a house for vacation before, but what a great choice we made. We are spoiled now because I doubt that anyplace could compare to Twin Ponds. It was everything we'd hoped for and much more! The house is so warm and inviting that we felt at home the moment we arrived. The house is very clean, the decor is entertaining, and every need has been considered. The owners out due themselves with all the amenities they provide. The property was incredible, we enjoyed coffee every morning on the front porch while watching the hummingbirds, ate lunch on the deck overlooking the trees and spacious field, watched birds, butterflies, chipmunks, frogs, and even deer in the field one morning. We took long walks and explored the ponds and fields several times everyday, the dogs had a terrific time and loved every minute of it.
It was so quiet and peaceful that we felt we were isolated from the world. Karen was a pleasure to deal with and made the whole reservation process a breeze. We didn't need a thing, but knew she was just a phone call away if we did. On our final day she stopped by on her way to the lake and we got to spend some time playing with a truck full of beautiful, playful puppies- what a completely unexpected surprise bonus that was to our visit!
I could go on forever about how wonderful a vacation we had at Twin Ponds. Without hesitation I would recommend it to anybody. We are already planning a return visit for the Fall. Thank you Karen and Mike for sharing your wonderful property, see you again soon!
Twin Ponds was an amazing getaway. We stayed over a long and FRIGID, Valentine's Day weekend and couldn't have been more pleased. The house is well stocked and very well appointed with anything you could ever desire, for man or canine! We braved the cold weather and had a fires outside by one of the (frozen) ponds, then inside to the warm and welcoming kitchen, complete with vintage farm-house sink and range, for hot chocolate (and wine). Our dog old Maggie, was pleased as puddin' with all the dog beds and toys waiting for her, and between the memory foam mattress and the wall jets in the futuristic shower, we were also "wagging" our tails.
The owner/renter Karen was so very kind, available, and helpful. She even popped by, upon our arrival, in near negative degree whether, to bring us flowers, check on our needs and wish us well.
Don't hesitate. If a quiet, picturesque, escape with all the comforts of home is what you're craving, look no further than Twin Ponds. Thanks Karen!
We were looking for a perfect getaway for New Year's Eve and found it here ! This home was spotless, quaint as described, everything we hoped it would be and more. We didn't leave for two days, so I cannot comment on restaurants, we had no reason to leave because we were loving our time here so much. The outdoor fire was a favorite part of the stay and the comfort of the home was absolutely perfect.
Thank you Karen and Mike for a wonderful, relaxing, much needed escape. We loved it and hope to come back in the future.
