Wisdoms offers a fine meal just south of Tubac and it is very fun. The bartender makes a wonderful margarita! The Tubac Inn offers wonderful pork dishes and there is almost always action there. Cowboys sometimes come on horses and stop to wet their thirsts. In Rio Rico where the Garrett's super market is located, there is Nick's Diner and an Italian restaurant that are both wonderful. There are over 10 golf courses nearby! Locally and Sycamore and Madera Canyons offer great birds and wildlife as well as the Santa Cruz River and the Anza Trail nearby (at Palo Parado) . Come and enjoy..

The vineyards are some of the best in the US and similar to southern France. Arizona. Vineyards is a popular roadside attraction in Nogales on the way to Mexico. Located less than one hour from the resort, the wines are unique and have classic Southwestern names such as Rattlesnake Red, Desert Dust and Coyote Red. (520) 287-7972.

Callaghan Vineyards

About an hour south of Tucson, the Callaghan Vineyards have been producing award-winning wines for over fifteen years. Keywords: Golf, Birdwatching, Cycling, Hiking, 2 bedroom, fenced yard, dog welcome, HBO & Showtime. If you are a Silver Sneaker's member, there are 3 different nearby locations that you can visit. The Anza Trail can be traveled nearby and this is an old Spanish trail north.

The wild life is delightful. There were over 95 birds identified by birders who came in April 2014. There is a complete list in my traveler's book.

Don't forget to visit the Tubac chamber on NE side of Tubac as it has extra things that come up weekly.

Bring you hiking shoes and your sense of adventure and go on the de Anza trail commencing on Palo Parado Trail recently improved by the state. Venture west off the trail just a little and see the Santa Cruz River miantering along side the train where Juan Baptista and Fr Keno stopped to rest and let their horses drink the water and refresh themselves. It is very relaxing

Maryann Kinzel (Visa and MC accepted) purchased this house in 2006

Why Maryann Kinzel (Visa and MC accepted) chose Arizona

I built this home originally for myself, but since it only has only a 2 car garage, I decided on building another one that has a 3 car garage. I live in this same area as I enjoy star gazing and bird watching and walking in the wilderness. It is close to Madera Canyon where there are pine trees. The evenings always have a nice, gentle breeze and you can look forward to sunny, pristine skies that are some common in Arizona. I love the birdwatching from almost every window in the house.

What makes this house unique

If you like to see the stars that are visible from the dark, clear skies of this area, this is the area for you. There are also a lot of wild life in the area and there is the faint sound of an occasional train in the valley below. The Tumaccari Mountains and Elephant Rock can been seen from this location and the sunsets and sunrises are superior.

Tubac has a unique feel to it with rich culture of Spain, Mexico and Arizona and it has many fun and historical places. There is a festival of the lights Dec 4-6th and an art walk on that Friday. There is a new HD 32 inch Sony TV with Dish Satellite Service. There is another HD TV in the office!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Maryann... I finally had time to assemble a list of birds (attached) we saw one or more times in the yard or overhead during our stay in April. It's been hectic catching up after a month away but we look back regularly to the AZ weather. Especially on those chilly and rainy days that sometimes make spring a long time coming here. It's warming up more now as Memorial Day approaches. We sure enjoyed our stay...Dave

Here are the birds that are in the area:

There are lots of things to do all year around. October is the perfect time to travel to the wineries, bird watch, golf and hike. For a detailed list of tghe events each month, go to eventful.com. The state and national parks are wonderful to visit to see the early history of the area when the Spanish first came. Jaun Baptista de Anza came here on October 1775 and is very famous. The Titan Missile Museum, Old Historic Towns and Villages and Bars of Rural Arizona. Has ten nearby golf courses. At the first Friday of the month, there are art walks in Tubac and most of the time there is live music in the square. The art in the studios and shops are wonderful and there are many items that you can get that are from Mexico. There is also a Duty Free Store just prior to entering Mexico and they have a wide selections of perfumes and liquors. There is wonderful bakeries in Tubac and Rio Rico, so plan on eating well and doing lots of outdoor activities to work it off. The birding is some of the best in the country.

If you are a Silver Sneakers member, there are 3 places that accept your membership, one with a year around swimming pool.

There are now two hospitals: St. Mary's in Nogales and Green Valley Hospital in Green Valley. Tubac Fire Department has IEMT's 24/7 and they are very good. I have been to both ED rooms and they both give good service, but I found Green Valley's ED to have newer equipment. There is also an urgent care off the left hand side of Duval Mine Road and they give good care also.

2nd visit better than the first

  • 5 of 5

We came back for another visit to this wonderful vacation home. We had a great time visiting Old Tucson, wineries, old missions, museums, and of coarse, the art. Again, the the place extremely peaceful and we loved the views. The house remained very clean and modern, there is also now TV for something to do at night when we were not looking at the impressive stars! We plan to return again sometime soon.

Nice home- NO INTERNET

  • 1 of 5

The house is comfortable and in a pretty setting. The lack of internet, however, was extremely frustrating as I really needed it to conduct business. I spoke to the owner, Maryann, several times before booking the house about the internet strength and she told me that it was excellent; any problems that previous renters mentioned had been taken care of. This turned out to be false.

There is no router or access point in the house itself. (She said it was too expensive.) The router is at the Maryann’s house down the street and she is trying to broadcast it to the rental. When I was able to get any connectivity, which wasn’t often, speed tests showed a download speed of less than 1 Mbps and an upload of barely over 0 Mbps. Maryann was over at the house or texting me daily trying to fix it but there are too many trees and the router is just simply too far away for it to work reliably. Nonetheless, Maryann still insists it works great.

The house wasn’t clean and there were some plumbing issues, but Maryann had recently had surgery and said that she had someone else clean for her so, according to her, it isn't her fault.

Overall, while it was a nice home in a pretty setting, it was a very stressful experience. I would not want to stay at this house or any of her properties again.

Owner's Response: The house did have internet but not at the commercial level that this client needed. She only asked " was the internet strong?" According to my server, she was uploading and downloading huge files and a lot of data was being used when I called on several occasions. I have used the server at that same home to send and receive emails, listen to podcasts from professional organizations, do banking, and listen to see small news clips, and what normal visiters use. When a group has three or more using the internet, the speeds are slowed down as they are with any service. I called a repairman to repair the one plumbing leak in the hose to the toliet several days prior, but he had to finish it. He came early (9 am) on the first day of their stay, and the women said that they didn't want any man to come into their space. I had wasted my service man's visit. I washed all of the linens and sheets with perfume free soap and did a second vacuuming one hour to their arrival. The three women came into the house and probably left the door opened while they were unpacking thus letting a few bugs in (in the rainy season). One women said that they only use vinegar and baking soda to clean and were difficult to please. I have over 30 reviews and no one had ever said the home was dirty. It is a great home and is very nice. I have recently added another receiver ($400 plus) that will boost the quality and quantity of the uploads and downloads. Maryann

Great setting and well equipped home

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this home for three days in early April. It is in a rural location actually southwest of Tumacacori. The scenery is beautiful and the home is well equipped in the kitchen and entertainment area. The bedding is good quality and comfortable. We slept well. We could not get the internet to work consistently. I believe that an upgrade may be required here. If you need wi fi,you can go online at the nice coffee shop in Tubac. One reviewer said that you are 30 minutes away from supplies but I found the drive to Tubac to be under 20 minutes depending on whether you take the Interstate or the service road. We always expect to drive a fair bit when we go to Tubac, and the drive is very pleasant. There is a good restaurant in Tumacacori and the spice factory is there as well.

Maryann lives nearby and is very hands on. She even filled the bird feeders for us. Her communication is excellent during the booking process and during your stay.

Owner's Response: Century Link had a small problem near the rail road tracks and a group of technicians repaired it. This group had four people all with some type of Internet device. Unlike the city, our. Internets are slower and are for short new clips and emails with small attachments and pictures. Folks left home I'm good condition and were lovely

Lots of sunshine, birds and relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our two week stay at Maryann's property in Tumacacori. The house was clean, had a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable furniture including the beds. Maryann was very conscientious about getting the internet working and with the extender we had very fast service. If you put out some bird seed and a hummingbird feeder in the backyard, you will be reward with a variety of birds. We would recommend this property to anyone who enjoys the high desert.

The location of this house is its main advantage and its main disadvantage.

It's so far away from everything that you get a excellent unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains ; the small patio overlooks the sun as it sinks at night over the mountains ... very nice.

On the other hand, you have to travel about 30 minutes to find groceries, gas, or even a cup of coffee, so that's the flip side.

The house itself is quite comfortable and very clean ; but nothing lux about it , so don't overpay.

The owner has provided all the basics except there is no barbeque , just a tiny charcoal grill - I would call it a hibachi.

It is unlikely anyone would use it.

The master bath is unusual.

Cable TV is provided including Hi Def ; not a big screen TV but certainly adequate. Golfers cannot watch their favorite channel.

Except for the following point, I would recommend this property for those who don't require any extras.

We were told multiple times by the owner that the house had WiFi ; this turned out to be untrue.

There was no Internet or Wifi available during our stay.

My brother had counted on that feature to do some work away from his office ; as had the writer.

The owner let us down on this point.

Overall a would give a rating of 2 out of 5 ... had WiFi been included, 3.
