Modern Amenities in a Real Log Cabin that Sleeps up to Four

Overview: welcome to Thornapple Cottage, an authentic log cabin on 5 quiet acres in Stowe, Vermont. Enjoy a soak in the outdoor, year-round hot tub, or sit by the fire after a day of hiking, skiing, or shopping. 2 bedrooms (1 king bed, 2 twins), perfect for a honeymoon or a family of four. Comfortably furnished and whistle-clean.

*Please note: sorry, but we do not accept monthly, seasonal, or long-term rentals, i.e., date ranges greater than two weeks.

Specifics: this comfortably furnished log cabin is nestled privately on five and a half acres with a new, four-person outdoor year-round hot tub, The location is a tenth of a mile up a scenic gravel road, yet only minutes from dining and shopping, as well as world-class skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort or cross-country skiing at famous Trapp Family Lodge.

The cabin is tucked away in a little dell at the edge of the woods where you can relax, slow down and unwind, or -- if you prefer -- keep in touch with wireless broadband and satellite TV. Comfortably furnished, the cabin has a full kitchen with lots of counter and cupboard space, a king-sized bed in one bedroom, and two twins in the other, washer/dryer, and A/C

The cottage and surrounding land: This log cabin cottage is situated on five and a half acres of pastoral privacy with mountain views. Sip coffee in your skivvies on the porch and watch wildlife in the meadow below; or enjoy the outdoor hot tub in privacy. Take nature walks from your front door, then come home to nestle in front of a fire in the field stone fireplace.

Things to do in Stowe: The cottage is a just a mile and a half from the center of Stowe Village and its many shops, restaurants, and galleries. Stowe is famous for its alpine and cross country skiing, and its many activities -- winter and summer -- and of course our spectacularly vivid fall foliage. Come in January and have fun at our annual winter carnival; come in summer and enjoy outdoor concerts at Trapp Family Lodge; come in mid-October and take in a huge, juried craft show; come during spring time off-season (April - end of June) and enjoy not only exceptionally reasonable rates, but the beauty of a lush, Vermont spring in full bloom, including our annual flower festival; come in late fall for a quiet, romantic get-away.

Sports enthusiast?: If dining, shopping, and luxuriating at Stowe's exceptional spas seems too tame, check out the skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort, or go cross country skiing or snow shoeing at Trapp Family Lodge or any of the other three area touring centers. Take a snowmobile tour, or go sledding. Maybe take a hike on many miles of scenic trails and bring your dog! Maybe golf is your thing? Stowe offers four excellent golf courses within ten miles. Or perhaps you'd like to go horseback riding, or mountain biking? The opportunities for outdoor recreation are endless.

About LeeLee Goodson

My husband and I spent our childhoods in Stowe, and after leaving for school(s) and subsequent travel, we each decided to return, where we 're-met,' married, and have happily raised our children.

LeeLee Goodson purchased this cabin in 1984

Why LeeLee Goodson chose Stowe Area

This was where we raised our two young children and only left because we purchased a nearby farm to begin our veterinary practice; but we couldn't bear to sell the cabin -- which is why we now rent it.

Clean-Cozy-Convenient!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for a week in February. It is very clean and warm. The fireplace is beautiful and the pre chopped wood made starting a fire effortless. It's an 8 minute ride to Stowe mountain, there is a grocery store minutes away and plenty of great restaurants nearby. The hot tub was amazing after skiing! We were able to bring our dog along with us which made us (and him) very happy. There is a lot of privacy and the road nearby is very quiet. Internet access was perfect and the cable was also a plus.

One of our favorite things was the little woodchuck who chose to hibernate outside of the cellar window- it was cool to see an animal hibernating in its natural habitat! Overall it was a great vacation and we felt very "at home".

We would definitely rent here again!

Owner's Response: Yes, we've dubbed the woodchuck "Norris". Get it? Woodchuck Norris? No idea why he chose our basement window well for his hibernation spot, but he's adorable all curled up and snoozing... Glad you enjoyed your stay!

Went too fast!

  • 5 of 5

We decided to get away for the holidays and this was exactly what we were looking for...the perfect cozy cabin. We lucked out and had snow and took advantage by sledding and snow shoeing the property and building a HUGE snowman. Plenty of wildlife tracks around but I think they like to come at night or early morning. Hot tub was a nice way to start the day if my finicky back was giving me fits from the bed or the end it after a day of outdoor winter fun. I didn't know hot tubbing in the snow was on my bucket list but so glad we did!

Close to town so not a far drive if you need to grab groceries at Shaw's or go to restaurants. (Butler's Pantry maple sausage and French Toast!) We made several visits to Trapp Family Lodge for a sleigh ride and got a day pass ($25pp at the time) to snowshoe to the chapel. Only about 45 minutes from Williston if you need some "big box" stores to peruse.

Any issues we encountered were minor and quickly rectified by Leelee who is a wonderful hostess and lives a mile away should you need anything. We have rented 30 private homes all over the US and thankfully she was one of the easiest to communicate with from beginning to end. Already planning our trip back!

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely wonderful time at this cabin - location is close to everything but very quiet and private, comfortable areas to cook, sit in front of the fireplace and read, play a game or two and then go out and play in the snow or even better sit in the hot tub. Hosts welcoming and easily available if needed. Looking forward to going back again!!!!

Charming Winter Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful cottage as advertised snuggled into the woods. We enjoyed the hot tub overlooking into the woods. Cottage was very comfortable, had a good selection of kitchen utensils for homemade meals! Minutes drive into downtown Stowe with many stores and restaurants. Great week, thank you!

Notes:
This cottage is an authentic Vermont log cabin, charmingly decorated, yet also furnished with modern conveniences for your comfort, such as wireless broadband and satellite TV. Cell phone coverage is good. The house also comes equipped with dishes, cooking pans, linens, towels, paper products such as toilet paper and paper towels, hand soap, dish detergent, laundry soap, and basic spices. A Shaw's supermarket is one mile away. We provide heat or AC, electricity, and snow plowing. There is an outdoor garbage bin and indoor recycle bin, which we will empty at the end of the rental. We will ensure that the path from the drive to the house is shoveled upon your arrival, and after any major storms, but should we get just a dusting to a couple of inches, you'll need to shovel the walkway if you desire. A snow shovel is on the porch. There's a sledding hill on the premises, but you'll need to provide your own sled(s).
