Lisa and John
About Lisa and John
We are from the Washington DC area and the working parents of two teenage boys. We always seem to be on the run in one direction or another (work/school/sports). We bought the cabin to find a sort of escape from the craziness of Northern Virginia crowds, traffic and commitments. We love that we can take an easy drive (about 2 hours) and be in a less stressful and more relaxing environment. The mornings are my favorite time. It's so quiet and serene. I typically make a pot of coffee, grab a blanket, sit on the deck and wait for the wild life to appear. We've seen a bunch of deer, wild turkey, a bobcat or two and even a bear! We love what the cabin provides....peace, quiet and an incredible sense of calmness.
Lisa and John purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Lisa and John chose Great Cacapon
We first purchased our cabin in 2007. We were looking for a place that would allow us to spend some good quality time with our family while at the same time, a place that would give us a place to recharge our batteries. Our kids are so connected to technology that we really were looking for a place to leave all that behind (if only for a weekend). The cabin gave us a place to reconnect. We play lots of board games, bake all sorts of cakes/cookies/pies, take long walks and explore. Our Great Cacapon cabin has become a wonderful retreat for us. Also, we've enjoyed a number of wonderful holidays here and love that we can get back to the basics at the cabin. Over the years, we've had lots of friends join us for weekend trips. Everyone loves it here! No distractions and no worries!
What makes this Cabin unique
We love that the cabin is a short drive away (15-20 minutes) from Berkeley Springs, WV but welcome the seclusion that our place provides. We love that within minutes, we can be eating at a nice restaurant, taking in a spa treatment, watching a movie at the Star Theater, or browsing an art gallery or antique shop. Cacapon State Park is about 25 minutes away and offers all kinds of fun things to do (Golf/Horseback Riding/Fishing/Swimming/Trap Shooting/Hiking). The C&O Canal is also close by. You can fill up your day with lots of things to do...or simply sit back and put your feet up.

Another great stay at Stonedrifts!
We always enjoy staying here. It's a great, well equipped space with a nice deck. Secluded but still close enough to Berkley Springs. Highly recommended!
Great House on a Mountain
Listen to the maps in the agreement and not so much Waze or Google Maps. We accidentally starting going up a road that probably should be driven up anymore because the smartphones sent us that way.
Beautiful spot to unwind and recharge
We travelled with our three boys ages 10, 11, and 13, and rely on home stays most everywhere we venture. Stonedrifts was another one of our best choices. The reviews are all accurate in regard to the character and cleanliness of the space, the beautiful and serene location of the cabin, and overall experience. John was incredibly responsive and very kind and good-natured. One of our favorite things to do every morning was wake up and sit in the two large chairs looking out over the forest and valley. My husband and I would drink our coffee there and listen to the sound of our sleeping children and the tranquility of nature. We took day trips to Cacapon State Park where we enjoyed the Cacapon Ridge Trail, and Horseback Riding, and in the other direction of the cabin we set our sites on the Paw Paw Tunnel Trail. One day it rained so we went to the Bowlerama and Arcade. All were amazing. Everything is about 25-30 minutes drive from the cabin. We’d also suggest a trip to the Berkeley Springs Brewery where beer is pretty good and the smoked brisket is fabulous. The ONLY thing to note for those traveling with more than four people: the loft space is very small and the ladder which attaches to the loft is somewhat unstable and steep. It was not a suitable sleeping place for anyone in our party, however, the sofa bed was available so it was no problem! I would also suggest that another sleeping blanket be available to those not sleeping in the beds. Thanks for a treat of a home stay!
Great place. We stayed with our dog and 3 year old. Peaceful, cozy and beautiful.
Very nice cabin getaway
Gorgeous cabin with a great porch, well-stocked kitchen, and easy access to Berkeley Springs. A great weekend getaway!
We were looking for a secluded cabin to get away from DC. This was perfectly secluded and a beautiful cabin. Sitting by the wood stove and playing games while the snow fell. Just what we needed.
