Photos and Description of this Jefferson holiday cottage

3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4

Tribby Cottage is located in the country town of Jefferson in Midcoast Maine which is 3 hours from Boston and 1 hour from Portland. It is both a private retreat and a place to enjoy the outdoors with your family and friends. It is the last cottage on the road and is surrounded by trees and fields. The cottage is nestled into a gentle hill that slopes down to the water's edge which about 100ft from the front door. At the shoreline you will find a small deck with stairs that lead to the small beach, dock and a canoe and kayak. Clary Lake is approximately 6-700 acres and 25 feet deep. It is a quiet lake with bass, perch and pickerel for enjoyable fishing.

Inside the cottage there is a large but cozy pine paneled living space with a wood stove, couch and seating area with a TV and DVD player, upholstered chairs by the picture window, and a dining area. The kitchen offers a stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot, large refrigerator, and all the pots, pans and utensils needed to cook a delicious meal. The tiled bathroom has a shower. There are three sleeping areas: the largest provides a queen bed, dresser and large closet, the second has a single bed and dresser, the third is a sleeping loft above the kitchen which is accessible by a built in ladder and has windows that overlook the lake. The loft has a queen sized futon, and is often the kid’s preference.

The front door to the cottage opens onto the deck which has a picnic table and Adirondack chairs and the charcoal grill is adjacent to the deck.

For local provisions there is: the Superette, a small grocery/gas store which also rents dvds, Sheepscot General, a general store and cafe which features organic, local food, and roadside farm stands. Also in the immediate area is Damariscotta Lake State Park, The Scoop ice cream stand, 100 Acre Woods which offers horseback riding, Sheepscot Links which offers a 9 hole golf course and Hidden Valley Nature Center which offers a twenty five mile trail system with many outdoor activities.

Tribby cottage is 20 minutes away from both Augusta and Damariscotta. Augusta, Maine's State Capital, offers all the big box stores, grocery markets, banks, movie theatres, airport, highways and a the nationally recognized Maine State Museum. Damariscotta is a quaint coastal town. The coastal area offers ocean beaches, lighthouses, hiking, boat tours, sea kayaking, galleries, charming shops, antiques, great restaurants and lobster.

Amazing stay at Tribby cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Tribby. This quiet cabin on Clary lake is exactly what we had in mind. The owners are very friendly and made themselves available if we needed anything. The cabin is well stocked with just about anything needed for our stay. We enjoyed the wood stove one night when the temps dropped into the 40's and it warmed the cabin up rather quickly. there was a surprising amount of wildlife that visited us at the cabin. We saw a large group(20-30) turkeys in the adjacent field. A pileated woodpecker that vigorously drilled into the oak trees looking for larva. A rather noisy red fox that curiously made his way onto the driveway. A majestic bald eagle that we witnessed and heard almost every day. Not to forget his counterpart, the osprey. We even saw the eagle catch a small bass right in front of the dock. That was awesome! The fishing was great! One day In particular I caught copious amounts of largemouth and smallmouth bass. Ranging in size from 1lb to 3lb's. And a ton of white perch. My wife was even catching them, and managed to out fish me one of the days :). I highly recommend going for a hike at "Hidden valley nature center" on Egypt road. They have some very nice trails and a lot of info about the local floral and fauna in the area. Also check out Elmers Barn if you are looking to find some unique old treasures. We spent two hours there and didn't even see all the cool stuff they have. I would also recommend getting provisions at Husseys General store. The superette is good for odds and ends but is a bit pricey. The cabin in is a convenient location. We visited Portland, Booth Bay, Damariscotta, Wiscassett, and Augusta. All within an hour of the cabin. I wish we could of spent another week there, so much we didn't get a chance to see. I'm thinking we will be back again soon. Such an amazing experience! Highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a quiet get away on a very special little lake in Maine. You won't be disappointed.

Tribby Cottage was fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

I don't use this word often, but Tribby Cottage was truly amazing. I brought my family of 4 (kids 11,18) and our dog to the cottage for the week. The kids were not too happy to hear 'no internet' but after the first night they adapted and I think they learned life can go on without Tech!.

We had great weather all week, used the canoe and kayak to fish morning, noon, and night. We were told the lake was low, but to us it was just fine. In fact because of that, there were no motor boats all week, and it was like we had the whole lake to ourselves the entire time. Except for the 1000's of perch we caught all week.

For a fast moving family always on the go, this was the perfect getaway to relax, lounge, fish, grill, swim, watch movies we brought on the DVD player, and just get away from everything else.

Wonderful family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family of three stayed here for a week in July with our dog. We couldn't have been happier with the place. The owners were wonderful and totally accommodating of us and our dog. The cabin is rustic and private and well stocked with everything you need. We spent a great amount of time relaxing by the lake and swimming. Most of the time we were the only ones out on the lake. The lake was shallow due to the drought but the owner told us in advance and it really wasn't an issue. I had some wonderful swims as the lake gets very deep a little farther out! To the reviewer who said it was mucky: it's a lake! Honestly, it really worked for us as we have a small child who is a new swimmer, so she felt like she could go out really far. She and my husband fished every day and she caught many fish on the lake while I sat on the dock and listened to the loons. We found the neighbors to be friendly and quiet, and the owners were incredibly helpful and responsive to us. While we were there we had to have some medical supplies shipped to us and Joann and Ellis were ready and willing to help. We are already planning to come back next year. The cabin is wonderfully located and we were able to explore a lot of the surrounding area. It really seems like our new home away from home, and we hope to return! We loved this cottage so much.

Owner's Response: Our goal as property owners is to provide the best possible experience for our renters. We strive to do this through clear communication, attentiveness, and a well maintained property. Before we agree to accept a renter's dogs we ask them to review our pet addendum (which is part of our rental agreement and can be viewed on the Homeaway site). If a renter agrees to follow the rules we gladly welcome their dogs. Most of our renters bring their dogs and this is the only time we have had a compliant from other lake residents. Once we were aware that this renter's dogs had been barking incessantly during the past few days we visited the cottage to speak with the renters. They were not at the cottage but we heard the barking and by looking in the windows it was apparent that the renter did not have dog crates and that the towels on the furniture were for the dogs to lay on. If the renter had addressed any of their issues with us I'm sure we could have helped find a easy solution. We are here to help and make everyone's stay the best it can be but the blatant disregard to the pet addendum which they had a copy of and also signed upon their arrival was the reason we asked them to leave a day early. We have to trust our renters with our family property and this was a deceitful act. Yes, the lake level is low. Maine is having a drought. This is not secret that we are concealing. We sent all of our renters that were arriving after July 4th an email stating that the lake level was low. We attached photos of the lake that were taken in the beginning of July asking if we may address concerns and how would they like to proceed. Again, if our renters have issues we are always open to finding an agreeable solution. Both long time lake residents, previous renters and family members have confirmed that the lake has been great for fishing this year, so my assumption is John did not attempt to fish. AT&T has very limited coverage in Maine. Both US Cellular and Verizon get excellent coverage at Tribby Cottage. We are disheartened to hear that this family had a poor experience. We strive for a welcoming spirit and thoughtful communication throughout the entire rental process. We took the likelihood of receiving a poor review into account before asking them to leave but thought we may not receive one after reading the handwritten note they left behind "Thank you for the wonderful stay at your cottage".

We had a great week! Clean, comfortable, private, quiet and the kitchen was stocked with everything you need for dishes. The lake level is low but the kids and dogs didn't mind. The adults used rafts to get to deeper water. Such a wonderful place to relax!
