About Susan Raff

David and I moved to Pinehurst in 1983. We liked it so much that we decided to make it our permanent home. We raised our family here and even after being empty nesters we continue to enjoy the charm and friendliness of our unique community! We wouldn't live anywhere else!

Susan Raff purchased this house in 2010

Why Susan Raff chose Pinehurst

Dave and I were lucky enough to find and purchase Arundel Cottage as our first home. Over the years we renovated, landscaped and restored it’s 'Olde Town' charm. In 1996 we built a new house on the adjacent lot where we lived for 15 yrs. Our first cottage did so well we decided to build another new house on the adjacent lot. We then furnished and equipped Cardinal House as an affordable vacation rental home for travelers with larger groups wanting to experience the sandhills region of Central North Carolina. We now manage and maintained both homes ourselves with our quests comfort and convenience in mind. We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing our unique properties over the years. We have made many new friends. Some of our guests find they don't want to leave and continue to return year after year.

What makes this house unique

Our property is larger than most vacation rentals. There is a deck and two large patios. The lawn is big enough for large parties to enjoy the outdoors! Plenty of outdoor activities including hot tub, garden, frisbee, corn hole, hammock, fire pit, bbq, children's play area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Susan and David,

Thank you very much for your part in making our 3-4 days in Pinehurst a wonderful family event. The house couldn't have been better suited for the 9 of us - terrific accommodations, with friendly, open, warm hosts. Four of us drove back to RI, getting away at 4:20 am Monday with smooth sailing all the way through. The others flew out of RDU and were here by 1 pm. I'm confident that all in the house was in order but with (3) 3- 6 yr olds surprises are never out of the question - please let us know if anything is amiss.

Four of us made the beach/lake/marina Sunday afternoon after golf which was just the ticket. An inconvenience in you're busy schedule I'm sure, but thanks again for that - it was worthwhile for us.

Enjoy the remainder of your summer and here's hoping a repeat comes into the cards,

Best Regards,

Jul 2010

Cozy, convenient and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Cardinal House several times over the years and it is perfect for us - 9 "girl friends" who have known each other for many, many years. Close to village for our walks, individual beds for each of us, beautiful yard for when the weather is nice. We look forward to being together again next year!

Guys golf trip

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect for our golf trip. The house, location and Susan and David made the trip a great experience. There is plenty of room in the house to get away or hang out. The hot tub, pool table and deck added to the fun. In addition to the house being walking distance from downtown, having David prepare a meal for the 10 of us was great. The food was amazing! Can't wait to come back next year.

Great house & awesome location in the Village of Pinehurst!

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome time in Pinhurst this weekend. Staying at the Cardinal House was convenient to everything. We walked to lunch and dinner; and were only a mile or two from the Pinehurst courses we played. Would recommend this property to anyone needing sleeping space for 8-12 people. We plan to return in the near future. Love Pinehurst and the history! Thank you Susan for making our weekend a success!

13 women shared this house over a weekend and ha a blast!

  • 5 of 5

The Cardinal House accommodated our group of 13 non-golfing women and we loved it! Lots of beds, comfy seating, and a well-stocked kitchen made for a wonderful week-end retreat. We walked to downtown Pinehurst's restaurants and spa and enjoyed the local greenway for early morning walks. We didn't use outside areas , but they looked great.

Perfect house for a crowd!

Great Girlfriend GetAway

  • 5 of 5

13 women came to Pinehurst to celebrate a BIG birthday and we had a BIG time! The location is perfect for walking to the spa, shopping downtown Pinehurst, walks on the greenway and happy hour at the Pinehurst hotel. We did ALL of these things and more. Plus the house is set up and layed out for lots of folks to have their own space and room to eat, play games, and just visit. Highly recommend in every way! Thank you Susan!
