Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths, Cable T.V., WiFi

The OK Street Jailhouse is a great place to stay while in Bisbee on vacation or business. Built in 1904 as the local branch of the County Jail, this jail was the arm of the prison system until 1915, when a larger facility had to be constructed to keep up with the increased 'boarder' demand of a booming mining town.

While turn-of-the-century inmates never had it this good, you can relax in total comfort at the OK Street Jailhouse. On the first floor, the former Jailer's office is a small entry area, The 'Drunk Tank' houses the living room/kitchen and a half bath. Take the stairs to the second floor to the cell for 'serious offenders' and you'll find a small sitting area, the bedroom, a closet, and the bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi tub. While serving your sentence at the OK Street Jailhouse, the entire building is yours, making you the jailer and the inmate. After we turn the keys over to you, 'you're on your own'.

Inmates at the OK Street Jailhouse need to rely on public parking just a few steps from the Jail. Fine eating establishments, museums and activities are located within walking distance from the Jail.

What makes this house unique

Bisbee is an ideal central location for day excursions, hiking. biking, rock hounding. There is almost no chance to be bored. Within 30 or 40 miles you can visit historic areas like Douglas, Tombstone, and Ft. Huachuca. There are a ton of hiking trails in the Coronado National Forest, east and west of Bisbee, some easy, some rather challenging. The National Park Service has lots of information on the history of the area and also detailed trail descriptions. San Pedro Riparian Area is good for hiking and bird watching. Bicycling is a favorite sport with more level streets in the Warren and San Jose Areas, building up to the ride up the hill into Old Bisbee, or even riding a loop around Bisbee. During the Mineral Show in the Fall, rockhounds have a chance to participate in a guided tour to areas general off limits to the public. Many visitors enjoy the yearly Historic Home Tour on the weekend after Thanksgiving, as well as a yearly B&B or Lodging Tour in June.

Another Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We keep coming back here - the best place to stay in Bisbee. Literally 50 steps to great food and also to a brewery! Also just 1 block off of the busiest street, so noise level at night is remarkable for being right in the middle of everything. Best location in town. Outstanding contact with the owner - clean and well stocked.

Adorable, historical gem in Bisbee!

  • 5 of 5

We fell in love with Bisbee a couple of months ago and were eager to get back. This time we stayed at the OK Street Jailhouse and it was THE perfect spot. Roomy and just right for a couple looking to escape Phoenix. The Jailhouse is just steps away from Brewery Gulch and the Bisbee Brewing Company. We were surprised to see a full kitchen, washer/dryer and two bathrooms. We are excited for our next trip to Bisbee and are already planning to book the Jailhouse. We won't stay in another spot.

Serving (awesome) time

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend booked this for my birthday, and it lived up to her (rather over-the-top) description. Plenty of room for a couple or family over two floors, just be careful on those steep stairs. It was great having a bedroom above and family room/kitchen below. And absolutely embraced having a bathroom on each floor, perfect for maintaining the romanticism of the trip. And the location is impossible to beat. At just $125, I can't imagine a better place for the money. Extremely friendly and helpful landlord. Coffeemaker (w/coffee!), microwave, fridge and wide assortment if kitchenware. Just be careful in the shower, the knob is very touchy. The slightest nudge takes you from lukewarm to way too hot. Experiment before committing to the full stream (good advice for life in general).

Wonderful Location

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely loved our stay at the Jailhouse Inn. The manager was super attentive and easy to talk to and the property was absolutely outstanding. I loved sitting on our stoop as the historic jeep tours paused and I even invited Canadian tourists to stick their head in and take a peek.

I have bad knees so one of the features I loved most was the proximity to the Gulch and that the stairs were very manageable.

Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this property was unique and perfect!

It is much larger than it looks like in the pictures. Clean. Perfect location. Narrow stairs inside. Internet and TV were great. Ample hot water - great shower. My whole family really got the feeling we were in jail (with John Wayne)!!! I have stayed in several places in Bisbee, and this will now be my top choice.
