Located 3.67 miles up Cow Creek Road, log home has upper rental space of 2300 sq. ft. of log home with an open floor plan and 800 sq. feet of deck. Deck has a gas grille and patio furniture. You can see three mesas on a clear day. The size of two bedrooms offers the feeling of great space for each person or couple. There is also a small third bedroom with a queen on that respective floor. In addition , there is a loft with a queen bed and a double bed. Both are comfortable futons. The loft is very popular with children. On the lower level of the home, there is a separate living space (apartment) which is an additional 900 sq. feet with an open floor plan. This can be rented for an additional price. It is a full apartment with a kitchen , dining area, large bathroom, living room and bedroom. It has a queen bed. Again, this is a separate apartment. You either rent the top or both. The Glorieta Mesa runs directly in front of the windows of the log home. The mesa changes in color as the day progresses and the weather changes. Should you be lucky enough to have a thunderstorm, there is a light show you will always remember. The sunsets and night skies are magnificent. I believe it is one of the most beautiful views in New Mexico.
There is also patio seating on the deck. In June, the wind gusts are 50 or 60. Furniture blows around and can hit windows. So, they are to be pulled to protected side of deck. A gas grille is available for fun outdoor dinners. There is wildlife to be seen. Deer, wild turkeys and a few larger species of wildlife may be seen. The larger wildlife is seldom seen but there are some. (Large coyotes, bears, bobcats, mountain lions, some say wolves) . There is a full service kitchen in both the apartment and also the main upper log home. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Santa Fe offer great supply shopping or the Clines Corners (Eldorado) Exit and up the road to the left has a very large and nice shopping area with a coffee bean store, etc. The drinking water is pure and has a wonderful taste. Beds are very comfortable. The log home has a warm, inviting feel. There is a gate at the entrance which can be locked. Pictures do not do the home justice. Very nicely decorated. Teal large Egyptian wool rug in Master bedroom and very nice huge rug in living room area. This log home is very cozy. This home is at 8200 feet in elevation and does not require air conditioning. Breezes are very good the majority of the time. Of course, there is central heat. This is a big place. And the price is fair. Those inquiring need to understand that this is not just one motel room. La Quinta rents one small room for $129.00 per night. The owner must pay for cleaning and amenities therefore the price is more than fair. In the Fall and Winter, there are propane and wood costs. In addition to electric, there is Direct T.V. and HughesNet.

My late husband, age 53 died unexpectedly in 2009. We built this log home to be our retirement home. Initially, we were going to build a small log home but this turned out to be 4300 square feet, 3200 sq. ft. in use. It is quite beautiful. In 2012 moved to New Mexico permanently. I have decided to rent this log home as a vacation rental and know all who rent it will be taken with the area and all it has to offer. And the view will amaze you. I believe it is one of the most beautiful views in New Mexico.
Nikki purchased this cabin in 1996
We built this home in this location because it is close to Santa Fe, New Mexico but gives an illusion of being secluded. The area is adjacent to a National Park and the views are spectacular.
We back up to a National Forest and Pecos, New Mexico is an amazing town with quite a few celebrities living in the town. It even has a medical clinic along with a few decent restaurants. It is a hikers paradise. And for those who love shopping, eating and art, Santa Fe is just down the road. Once you come down the mountain and spend 20 to 25 minutes driving out from Pecos to the main highway, you are 20 to 25 minutes from Santa Fe. So you have the best of both worlds, you have the feel of privacy and total relaxation and yet have the nearness of a city for many events and great restaurants. Friends of mine have said that they love just being up at the log home reading and taking in the beautiful sunsets and beautiful star filled nights.
The cabin was wonderful. Tons of room and all the furnishings were great. The views from the deck are phenomenal. The cabin is very secluded, which was perfect for us.
Our entire family of 9 stayed the entire week after Christmas. My wife and I plus our daughter & son-in-law, our son and daughter-in-law and our 3 grandsons, ages 4, 12 and 19 arrived the day after Christmas. My wife and I have visited Santa Fe 6 times before, including once previously with our whole family. Our only disappointment this time around had nothing to do with this property or our visits into Santa Fe. It was the relatively mild weather. We all live in Fort Worth, TX and we were really looking forward to enjoying some snow and cold, wintry weather. Mother Nature did not cooperate. But, our grandsons did get to enjoy a couple fun days in the snow right on this property. This log home sits at a little over 8200 ft in the forrest. So, much of the previous weeks' snowfall was still on the ground. The location also made for a very adventurous drive up and down the mountain as most of the the road, which is a dirt logging road, was still covered with with snow/ice. Yes...4-wheel or all wheel drive is definitely a must at this time of year. It's a beautiful drive up/down from Pecos along a very curvy logging road through the Forrest and around a canyon. This log cabin/house was as comfortable and enjoyable as the pictures suggested to us when we first reviewed the listing and booked our stay way back in February of 2016. This cabin has all the creature comforts but it's setting in the Forrest overlooking the Pecos river valley and the straight-on direct views of 2 mesas is its biggest benefit...just besting the friendliness and kind hospitality of Nikki, the owner!!! We really experienced a small taste of living in the wilderness, including the stunning star covered night sky. Pecos is a small town, with only a few retail stores or restaurants. The drive down from the mountain and into Santa Fe via I-25 was about 25 miles and took us about 40-45 minutes. Allow about 10-20 minutes up/down the mountain. Santa Fe is one of our very favorite towns to visit, especially during the Christmas season. I think the combination of shopping, food and cultural and historic experiences amongst Santa Fe's beautiful setting are really hard to beat. We also found that Nikki's friendly and accommodating hospitality and her wonderful log home are also hard to beat! We'd love to visit Nikki's cabin again and give Mother Nature another chance to deliver us some snowy, cold wintry weather to enjoy. Thank you so much, Nikki and Happy New Year!
My family and I wanted to get out of Houston, Tx and enjoy a weekend in the snow, and this Christmas our dream came true!!! This log home was amazing from the moment we got there, Nikki was very attentive every step of the way, always making sure we were doing ok, Whatever we needed, it was there, did not have to worry about anything!!. We had an incredible time and I would highly recommend this log home to anybody, wouldn't change one bit of it.
Our extended family stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday and had an amazing time. Nikki is great and the cabin was beyond what we expected. Plenty of room for everyone and a huge kitchen for all of the cooks :)
Thank you again for such a wonderful place to stay!
Thank you for a wonderful stay. Our host was generous with their space, provided everything we needed and more. The location is beautiful, the cabin is cozy, and worked well for our group retreat. Thank you!
Hiking tours can be arranged. We are near the Pecos National Forest. Very near Santa Fe, New Mexico which offers amazing restaurants, galleries, festivals, spas, nightlife and shopping. Also near art center and unique town of Madrid close to Santa Fe exit off I -25.

$25 one time fee for each person above 10 guests. This is to cover sheets and towels, etc. It is a one time fee only and not for each night. For larger groups, there is also a full apartment that may be rented downstairs. The apartment rents for $160 per night plus a $140 cleaning fee for after you leave which covers refuse removal. We must carry all refuse to the town dumping center. So, top and bottom are available for larger groups. Bottom is again, a separate apartment with a separate price.
