Located 3.67 miles up Cow Creek Road, log home has upper rental space of 2300 sq. ft. of log home with an open floor plan and 800 sq. feet of deck. Deck has a gas grille and patio furniture. You can see three mesas on a clear day. The size of two bedrooms offers the feeling of great space for each person or couple. There is also a small third bedroom with a queen on that respective floor. In addition , there is a loft with a queen bed and a double bed. Both are comfortable futons. The loft is very popular with children. On the lower level of the home, there is a separate living space (apartment) which is an additional 900 sq. feet with an open floor plan. This can be rented for an additional price. It is a full apartment with a kitchen , dining area, large bathroom, living room and bedroom. It has a queen bed. Again, this is a separate apartment. You either rent the top or both. The Glorieta Mesa runs directly in front of the windows of the log home. The mesa changes in color as the day progresses and the weather changes. Should you be lucky enough to have a thunderstorm, there is a light show you will always remember. The sunsets and night skies are magnificent. I believe it is one of the most beautiful views in New Mexico.
There is also patio seating on the deck. In June, the wind gusts are 50 or 60. Furniture blows around and can hit windows. So, they are to be pulled to protected side of deck. A gas grille is available for fun outdoor dinners. There is wildlife to be seen. Deer, wild turkeys and a few larger species of wildlife may be seen. The larger wildlife is seldom seen but there are some. (Large coyotes, bears, bobcats, mountain lions, some say wolves) . There is a full service kitchen in both the apartment and also the main upper log home. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Santa Fe offer great supply shopping or the Clines Corners (Eldorado) Exit and up the road to the left has a very large and nice shopping area with a coffee bean store, etc. The drinking water is pure and has a wonderful taste. Beds are very comfortable. The log home has a warm, inviting feel. There is a gate at the entrance which can be locked. Pictures do not do the home justice. Very nicely decorated. Teal large Egyptian wool rug in Master bedroom and very nice huge rug in living room area. This log home is very cozy. This home is at 8200 feet in elevation and does not require air conditioning. Breezes are very good the majority of the time. Of course, there is central heat. This is a big place. And the price is fair. Those inquiring need to understand that this is not just one motel room. La Quinta rents one small room for $129.00 per night. The owner must pay for cleaning and amenities therefore the price is more than fair. In the Fall and Winter, there are propane and wood costs. In addition to electric, there is Direct T.V. and HughesNet.

My late husband, age 53 died unexpectedly in 2009. We built this log home to be our retirement home. Initially, we were going to build a small log home but this turned out to be 4300 square feet, 3200 sq. ft. in use. It is quite beautiful. In 2012 moved to New Mexico permanently. I have decided to rent this log home as a vacation rental and know all who rent it will be taken with the area and all it has to offer. And the view will amaze you. I believe it is one of the most beautiful views in New Mexico.
Nikki purchased this cabin in 1996
We built this home in this location because it is close to Santa Fe, New Mexico but gives an illusion of being secluded. The area is adjacent to a National Park and the views are spectacular.
We back up to a National Forest and Pecos, New Mexico is an amazing town with quite a few celebrities living in the town. It even has a medical clinic along with a few decent restaurants. It is a hikers paradise. And for those who love shopping, eating and art, Santa Fe is just down the road. Once you come down the mountain and spend 20 to 25 minutes driving out from Pecos to the main highway, you are 20 to 25 minutes from Santa Fe. So you have the best of both worlds, you have the feel of privacy and total relaxation and yet have the nearness of a city for many events and great restaurants. Friends of mine have said that they love just being up at the log home reading and taking in the beautiful sunsets and beautiful star filled nights.
The cabin was wonderful. Tons of room and all the furnishings were great. The views from the deck are phenomenal. The cabin is very secluded, which was perfect for us.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. Our host was generous with their space, provided everything we needed and more. The location is beautiful, the cabin is cozy, and worked well for our group retreat. Thank you!
We had an excellent stay in the beautiful accommodations. The host was amazing, and our little boys enjoyed the beautiful mountain surroundings. We would do it all over again.
The log home is incredibly beautiful, spacious, and well-maintained. The kitchen had everything a self described home chef wanted. (All 'tools' were high-end: Heavy duty pots, 5 burner gas stove, dozen++ bowls and plates and silverware, serving dishes, and even a Ninja blender.) The open living space with the to-die-for views were fabulous for a large family gathering. The towels, linens, hand soap, etc were very high quality. Even the tap water tasted good! And the owner provided amazing service... she clearly pays attention to the details and wants you to enjoy every moment.
More awesomeness: I booked this place for a Father's Day gift for my 91 year old grandfather and brought the whole family. Everyone *loved* it! From early booking, the owner was proactive and very helpful in communications. Because we had a lot of singles in our group of 10, some of us camped in the living room, but the furniture was so nice it wasn't a burden. We ate non-stop and had plenty of dishes for our big crew... Plus a dishwasher to deal with the aftermath. I covet the gorgeous artwork, furniture, rugs, and duvets throughout the house. My only regret is that I didn't make more time to hang out on the deck (only because I was in the beautiful kitchen so much).
Two pointers: get clear driving directions before you go, as we had to bother the owner to help us find it (she was awesome! but TMobile cellular service is very poor in Pecos and it's a bit of a bumpy drive if you're a city slicker). Be prepared for reasonable water conservation. (Water is hauled and there was plenty of it - even for 10 of us over a long weekend. But if you've never lived thinking about the gallons we pour down the drain on a daily basis, your guests might be concerned.) It's really not a limitation but a perspective change. (did I mention the dishwasher? a W&D, too! and great water pressure).
We absolutely loved the place and can't wait to find another excuse to return.
We regularly rent from VRBO for family vacations and pictures don't do this place justice. It was clean, open, comfortable, beautiful, well appointed, and with easy access to the Santa Fe Plaza, National Forest fishing/hiking, the Jemez and High Road to Taos scenic byways. Nikki recommended some restaurants in the area and I highly recommend Harry's Roadhouse as well. I took my elderly parents and two young school age children and we hiked, fished, caught lizards (and set them free after naming them - one horny toad named Pecos Bill), shot BB guns, grilled local fish/vegetables/spices, met interesting and friendly people in the small high country towns, and all in all had one of the best vacations ever.
Hiking tours can be arranged. We are near the Pecos National Forest. Very near Santa Fe, New Mexico which offers amazing restaurants, galleries, festivals, spas, nightlife and shopping. Also near art center and unique town of Madrid close to Santa Fe exit off I -25.

$25 one time fee for each person above 10 guests. This is to cover sheets and towels, etc. It is a one time fee only and not for each night. For larger groups, there is also a full apartment that may be rented downstairs. The apartment rents for $160 per night plus a $140 cleaning fee for after you leave which covers refuse removal. We must carry all refuse to the town dumping center. So, top and bottom are available for larger groups. Bottom is again, a separate apartment with a separate price.
