About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-7)

Cottage Mary Rose is a beautiful 18th century, white-washed, thatched roof cottage. One of Ireland's few remaining, it is what you dream of when thinking of Ireland. Nestled in the pastoral valley of Mount Eagle with a stream running through the peaceful cottage garden. We boast an all natural garden. It is surrounded by its original dry stone walls and fuchsia.

You are welcomed by the bright red double door. As you enter, you get the feeling that you have stepped back in time. With its stone fireplace and high lofted ceilings in the sitting room it is a great room for conversation and games. Antiques fill the cottage with traditional and comfortable furniture as well. It is amazing to think of what this cottage has survived. It has truly come a long way from traditional Irish life to having the luxuries we dream of. There is a Jacuzzi tub and dishwasher as well as a bright red Aga stove so you can actually enjoy cooking. Truly an ideal place to call home while exploring the many treasures of CountyKerry. Internet now available.

About William Harty

My family is of Irish descent. Our first time to the Emerald Isle was in 1996. I fell in love with it as every one does and knew then that some day I would have a home there.........a Thatched Cottage. Being involved in architechture,I had always been fascinated in thatched roof cottages. When I purchased Cottage Mary Rose in 2000 I never realised how much I would fall in love with it. It is my true passion, named after my mother, Mary Rose Bowler, I wanted to share this amazing bit of Irish History with others....

William Harty purchased this cottage in 2000

Why William Harty chose County Kerry

I wanted a historic thatched cottage off of the beaten track but close enough to tourist attractions. I am an avid gardener and knew that this location was perfect for a great garden. There are fuschia & camelias every where! The stream was the frosting on the cake. So dramatic because of the ravine and rushing water below. The sound is so calming and tranquil. I preferred the small village of Cordal because you get a TRUE feel of the real Ireland instead of the touristy areas. I was happy enough with the Church and Kearney's Grocer.....I thought all it needed was a pub......my dream was answered and Hughes Pub was built by Sean Hughes a local Cordal lad in 2006. It is a beautiful pub and great for local gab, a great Pint and a game of pool. All with in a 5 minute walk. Our great cottage has stood the test of time. I love sharing this peice of Heaven with others.........

What makes this cottage unique

Cottage Mary Rose is a wonderful blend of a living bit of history. Add to this a Jacuzzi tub, rain shower and hot tub over looking a stream and you have it all. We even provide WiFi internet connection. Large kitchen which is wonderful for entertaining. The Heritage cooker is probably the best method of cooking food. Besides the Irish farm table there is also a front patio for dining and the deck where you can dine with the sounds of the peaceful stream and song of the birds. Nothing beats relaxing in the hot tub at the end of a long day while enoying the stars above...........absolute Heaven.............

LOVED Cottage Mary Rose

  • 5 of 5

Could not have loved this place more! Stayed here 2 nights towards the end of our 8 day trip to Ireland with my husband and daughter. It came at the perfect time in the trip. It was so nice to take a break from hotels and b and b's and have this beautiful place to ourselves. We bbqed both nights and enjoyed quiet, candle lit dinners around the farm table in the kitchen. Soaked our weary sight seeing bones in the hot tub each night and slept peacefully in this quiet countryside cottage.

Lovely cottage by the creek

  • 5 of 5

Amazing cottage by the creek with all the character and amenities we needed. Inside and out, the cottage was welcoming and a wonderful place to vacation. Special thanks to Dennis and Eileen for the amazing bread and basket of snacks and fruit!

Definitely charming and a great setting for a small town stay in Ireland

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in the cottage and the caretakers were very generous and responsive for all of our needs, they went more than the extra mile (kilometer) to take one of the our guests to and from the airport! The house is adorable and pretty much as pictured, it is well lived and with that comes the slight clutter of a real home and also a slight mildew smell from the moist environment. The kitchen was very well stocked and the stove was tricky to figure out but worked well after some finesse. The water pressure was great and we never ran out of hot water between the five of us, the soda bread waiting for us upon arrival was delicious and just what we needed after a long drive. The house is on the main street that continues on into Castleisland (the nearest town) and Tralee (the next biggest town) but is quite remote which is actually a lot of fun, there is a small gas station type store and a pub in immediate walking distance for basic needs. The backyard is beautiful and though there was a hot tub mishap, when in use it is just wonderful and serence to use the tub and hear the rushing of the creek that is just a few steps away, perfection. There are lovely walks around the house to cow fields and vistas which we very much enjoyed in the rain.

Initially when given directions to the home we were a bit confused as to how to enter an exact address into our mapping system but if you just drive into the tiny town of Cordal and then follow the clues from the manual it all becomes clear upon arrival.

Thank you Cottage Mary Rose for a cozy and lovely time!

Very quaint

  • 5 of 5

This place was a little out of the way but very nice. The cottage was well taken care of. There was a stream through the back yard and the sound was very relaxing. It was quaint and a touch of touch of authenticity of Ireland. Would highly recommend this to anyone that likes that experience. The caretakers Dennis and Eileen were very informative and very pleasant to deal with. Very impressed, glad we picked this one.

Very good location, great house for a family

  • 5 of 5

Our family were guests in July 2017. There were 2 adults and five (!) children.

We really enjoyed the house. It was very comfortable for all of us. We enjoyed the peat fires (it was quite cold) almost every night. Beds were nice, kitchen was good, house was well stocked. The house had a lot of charm.

Location, with a car, worked great for us. 40 minutes from Kerry. About 40 minutes to Dingle. 3 hours to Cliffs of Moher. Very quick drive to CastleIsland -which we liked (good coffee place, decent local places to eat). Grocery store was close at hand in CastleIsland.

The care takers were great. We would highly recommend.

Fabulous country cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Denny and Eileen were great hosts, providing us with everything we could want for our stay ( the fresh baked bread was a nice touch!). The property has to be seen to fully appreciate the history and amenities provided. Wifi signal was weak but many travel guides were available to guests. We would love to stay here again!
