Clean, comfortable, quiet

Really enjoyed the location of the cottage. Good walks to the coffee shop and Shoreline Marina. Close access to the ferry to Washington Island. Terry, the owner offered her waterfront to sit and this made the cottage even more enjoyable. We would rent again.

Owner's Response: Thank you . You were a pleasure to host . I may have a lead for you purchase wise when ready - across the street from cabin - low 300's - very little yard - listed on rent door county as gills bend .

Relaxing Atmosphere

  • 4 of 5

This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a peaceful relaxing time. It is also very pet friendly which is a bonus if your "kids" have four paws. It's not the Ritz but it has the charm of an historic log cabin with modern amenities. The only truly disappointing part is the lake view which is located a few houses down the road and you have to go through someone else's property to get there and their deck overlooks your sitting area so it is not private. However, the view is fantastic. I know it was stated that the lake view was across the road in the description but the picture makes it look private. I wouldn't let this deter you from staying here however because everything else was very nice. It was so relaxing and enjoyable to have a fire in the backyard and to make s'mores at the end of a day exploring the parks or seeing the Northern Sky Theatre at Peninsula State Park. The local restaurants were very good in both Gills Rock and Ellison Bay. Overall, we had a very good time at Doc's Hideaway and would recommend staying at the cottage.

Owner's Response: Just wanted you to know the property you walk through is the cabin owners and no one else has access to their patio. As the waterfront is prime property no one has a private setting . All the property of the waterfront homes adjoin and no one can impede anyone else's view per code . thanks for coming .

Quiet and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

Our week stay was quiet and relaxing, just what we were looking for. The cabin is cozy and well maintained. The squirrels in the woods were entertaining. Thank you so much for the use of your beautiful log cabin.

Nice cabin, but the information, and photos about the cabin are misleading.

  • 2 of 5

This cabin itself was nice, but the rest was a real let down. There is no lake access, unless you walk down the street, and through the neighbors property. The opposite side of the street from the cabin is crowded full of other properties, and the lake can barely be seen. The fire pit was poor, and three of the four chairs around it were broken. There were dog feces in the grass, and bumblebees in the wall flying out right next to the back sliding doors into the yard. The kayak, canoe, and bicycles have to be borrowed from the owner, and watercraft launched on their private pier where everyone, including the neighbors can gawk at you. There were none on the property itself. This is not the place for you if you want privacy. Load neighbors parties on the weekend, and construction across the street were noisy. I would not recommend this rental. I could have gotten much better somewhere else for less cost.

Doc's Hide Away provides exceptional experience in Gills Rock

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently spent some time in Door County and, as always, made plans to stay in our favorite place--Gills Rock. We had walked by Doc's Hide Away many times while we stayed other places in Gills Rock, so this time we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all. The cabin is very, very nice. Clean and very nicely appointed, Doc's Hide Away provides a very comfortable home away from home. We loved having the yard and the fire pit, as well as the seating area by the bay. Can't think of anything that wasn't good about Doc's Hide Away, although perhaps leaving it would qualify there. If you're looking for a comfortable and exceptional value in a beautiful setting, try Doc's Hide Away. You'll not be disappointed. And, hey ... a welcome loaf of banana bread provided by Terry Bott was another highlight!
