About Rick or Theresa Cooper

My husband grew up in this area and has lived here all his life. We live nearby so this is our playground for hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, fishing, boating, and anything outdoors. We love this area, and sharing it with others!

Rick or Theresa Cooper purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Rick or Theresa Cooper chose Ashford

I love to go on long hikes or snowshoe trips at Mt Rainier and this cabin is halfway between those trips and my house. As well, the backyard to this cabin has over 500 acres of national forest, with easy access for long hikes through beautiful trees. This is the perfect stopover after a long day to soak in the hot tub, curl up with a book on the deck, cuddle on the futon to watch a movie, or just watch nature saunter through your yard.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy the solitude, getting away from the rat-race, getting back to nature, finding peace in watching deer, squirrels and other wildlife while relaxing on the deck or in the hot tub. The cabin does not have cell phone coverage, phone, internet, cable or satellite. You can 'drop out' and totally relax. However, if you must have any of these they are all convienently located within 5 miles of the cabin in Ashford.

Clean and cozy cabin

  • 4 of 5

Very nice and cozy cabin right near entrance to Mt Rainer. The no WiFi , satellite tv or service was a nice change. Forced to talk and laugh and play games. Hot tub was clean and relaxing. Definitely will return.

Such a special cabin!

  • 5 of 5

First, the location....very close to the entrance of Mt. Rainier National Park! It's a beautiful historic cabin that is much bigger than it looks. It's updated, with modern conveniences (nice big bathroom, washer & dryer, and comfortable beds) but still has the historic charm of an old house. It was very clean and had everything we needed... the bathroom was stocked with plenty of big fluffy towels and plenty of Airbonne toiletries, which was an extra nice touch. We were surprised (and happy!) to see a window a/c unit in the living room. It was quite warm while we were there and the a/c cooled down the whole 1st floor very nicely...including the master bedroom.

We did not use the one upstairs loft bedroom because it had a ladder to get up there and with small children, it was not a good idea. But the other room has a twin bed and a queen, so everyone slept in there and was quite comfortable. We had fans running to keep it cool up there.

One thing I must note: the cabin is very close to the road. This wasn't an issue at night because the traffic died done fairly early, but there was a lot of construction going on in the Park and the heavy construction trucks started down the road very, very early. If you are sleeping in the master bedroom, I would highly suggest bringing ear plugs and an eye mask. The only curtains are thin window sheers and the bright lights on the vehicles is almost blinding and the noise is quite loud.

A suggestion: Give a new sponge in the kitchen to every renter! There is no dishwasher (which is fine) but our sponge was still wet and moldy smelling from the previous renter. When we went to pull out a few glasses, they were not cleaned properly from the previous renter. Ok, I would just rewash them right? Wrong. The sponge was gross. Ended up washing them with a paper towel, putting them back and drinking out of my own plastic cups I had in the car. Small, but a super fixable issue.

Outside the home, we loved the hot tub, a few paths we could walk, and a wonderful dart board that my children loved. Parking was terrific and we loved having a level surface to easily get our bags into the house. Overall, wonderful!

Cozy cabin, amazing owners!

  • 5 of 5

First of all, I am so impressed by the owners of this cabin. They really went out of their way to help us out. They mailed a phone we had left at the cabin not just once, but twice! The first time we had just changed our address and the mail-forwarding did not work. So they were kind enough to mail it a second time, this time to the new address, all with a cheerful disposition.

Not only that, but when I was reserving the cabin, they offered an off-peak season discount that I didn't even know about. Very generous people!

As for the cabin itself, it was very cozy and fit all 8 of us comfortably. The bathroom was in high demand between all of us, but the sleeping accommodations were perfect. The fireplace was lots of fun, as we really needed it to warm us up. We enjoyed sitting around it making s'mores. All of the fire making materials were readily at hand, and the fun Jacuzzi was easy to manage as well.

We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place to others!

Great get-away for the family

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five really loved this place! Plenty of space for everyone, very 'authentic' cabin feeling property. We had two deer visit us the evening of our arrival. Our five and seven year olds really enjoyed the jacuzzi and marshmallow roasting fire pit where we made smores under the stars. The kitchen was very well stocked (including complimentary waffle mix, coffee, and tea), there were lots of DVDs (nice variety), furnishings were comfortable, and the beds were terrific...I got a great night's sleep. So many nice touches...felt like home. Definitely would recommend! We'll be looking forward to coming back again.

Relaxation Aaaah

  • 5 of 5

I love this Cabin, it has all the stuff we forgot to bring including hot cocoa! The bed was like heaven! When I have free time I spend it carefully as I am in the Navy this was the most relaxing vacation I have had in years, and with a military discount to boot! I love the Cornerstone Cabin and I will be back again after deployment.
