Structure has energy efficient ICF foam/concrete walls, natural cedar shingles weathered from sea air,Post+beam enterior. 1 minute off legendary Cabot Trail. With lots of activities for kids, the family can enjoy a wonderful beach getaway . We're just minutes from the heritage rich Acadian village of Cheticamp, where the family can learn a little bit about Acadian culture. You can walk out the front door & across the field onto the beach, it’s a stone beach directly in front of the cottage, but approx. 400 meters down the beach it changes to a beautiful sandy beach that is very child safe and has a family-friendly atmosphere.
Owner Description: : Jyl and I live in Margaree Valley on my family's homestead property. We have 7 children, from 22 right down to 2. I drive a school bus and own a small well drilling company, Jyl is a physiotherapist.
Why the Owner Chose Cheticamp: : It started as a beach house for the family ,we all enjoy the ocean . The location was perfect because it was only 1/2 hour from our home in Margaree and close to Jyl's work.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage: : Our cottage is located on a strip of land on the beach, with magnificent sunsets and island views toward the front ,with Cheticamp harbour, full of birds and plants with a mountain back drop to the rear. The site offers a panoramic view of the ocean, island, harbour, wild life and mountains. We're one minute off the Cabot Trail and five minutes to Cheticamp with the Cape Breton Highlands National Park about 10 minutes away.
Overall the property was enjoyable and perfect for what we wanted. It was clean and well-equipped and the garage door made it breezy and comfortable. The kitchen is well- stocked and the bathroom roomy and functional. The view of the ocean is great and it is a quick drive through Cheticamp to the national park. Because the bath is down a set of metal somewhat steep stairs from the bedrooms, if you are at all unsteady, older or a frequent nighttime visitor to the bathroom, this could be an issue. The window treatments in the bedroom let in light at the crack of dawn so if you are light sensitive I would recommend eyeshields to sleep with. Even with the windows cracked and the fan going, it is stuffy upstairs in the summer at night and we slept much better once we found the little fan under the sink in the kitchen - obviously no AC in NS. I would definitely recommend this place to those who don't mind the bathroom situation.
The carmichaels are wonderful to share this impeccable home with us! My children had to actually say "goodbye" to the house because we loved it so much! Private rocky beach (sandy beach a stones throw), sunsets, cheticamp is a wonderful village - we didn't even have time to do everything there as we explored the whole island. Owners are easy and very kind. A million stars at night, a eagle family to enjoy your morning coffee with! The ocean breeze and sound of waves to sleep. It honestly is a magical place we hope to come back soon.
My husband and I had a wonderful vacation in this comfortable cottage with perfect views. We both agreed we wished we could stay longer. The cottage is in close proximity to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park where we went on daily hikes. A bald eagle visited us on our last morning there. We miss being there already!
There isn't much to add to the other glowing reviews of this home. If you seek peace and beauty, it's all you hope for and more. It's clean as a whistle and roomy enough for a family without being too big for a couple. We had the garage door open every day to listen to the waves and enjoy the breeze. As for the area, in a word, it's unspoiled. Cheticamp is a small town with a handful of homey restaurants, a co-op grocery store, and a couple of tiny shops. We went twice to the lounge at Le Gabriel to listen to an amazing guitar duo. (If the entertainment schedule there features Nicole Leblanc and Glen Roache during your stay, don't miss them!) The house is right near the most spectacular portion of the Cape Breton National Park. The Rusty Anchor restaurant, about 25 km. into the park, is terrific. We visited them twice as well and enjoyed everything we ordered. You don't need to purchase a park pass to go there. Lastly, when the breathtaking sunset falls beneath the waves and night descends, don't forget to look up! Nova Scotia is famous for their dark sky. The few lights from Cheticamp did little to obscure The Milky Way. It's both breathtaking and restorative. Many thanks to John and family for sharing this magical place with us.
Fantastic cottage, close to everything yet private and secluded, peaceful and tranquil ! Did not expect it to be as nice as in the pictures and it was even better. Looks like a feature home in a lifestyles magazine!
The owner has thought of everything you could ever want . Fully equipped is an understatement. Bring your clothes and some steaks for the bbq and kick back and enjoy the spectacular views from anywhere in the cottage. Big windows all around and the centre roll up door is a great touch! Walk down the garden trail and you are on your own beach. There was even a neatly stacked box of firewood at the cottage if we wanted to have a beach campfire. Location is just minutes from town of Cheticamp and all the amenities, restaurants, grocery store e.t.c.. and Highlands national park and fantastic hiking trails. A cottage experience yet with all the luxury comforts of home and more. On a rainy day it was a treat just to hang out , soak in the scenery and listen to the waves. We have stayed all around Cape Breton over the last few years and all were great places to stay but this spot has that extra charm thats difficult to quantify in pictures alone.
Outstanding cottage and owner. Even better then described! Ocean on one side, mountains on the other. Great location, close to town and Cape Breton National Park. Very peaceful. Breakfast outside every day by the cottage or on the beach. Cottage itself is a wonder. Beautiful design opens onto the outside. Do not miss the abbey at the North end of the park .
Our cottage was built on a piece of land beautifully placed in between the ocean and the highland mountains. We're only 5 minutes away from Cheticamp, a quaint little village rich in Acadian culture. And 1 minute of the legendary Cabot Trail.
