About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 8

The cottage has energy efficient ICF foam/concrete walls and natural cedar shingles weathered from sea air that encompass a gorgeous post+beam interior. Being 1 minute off legendary Cabot Trail- there are lots of activities for kids, and families and couples alike can enjoy a wonderful beach getaway. You can walk out the front door & across the field straight onto the beach. Directly in front of the cottage is a stone beach- very peaceful, private and perfect for campfires. Approximately 400 meters down the beach however, it changes to a beautiful sandy beach that is child safe and has a family-friendly atmosphere- perfect for swimming and sandcastles. We are also just minutes away from the heritage rich Acadian village of Cheticamp where the family can learn a little bit about Acadian culture and each great food at some local restaurants.

Owner Description: Jyl and I live in Margaree Valley on my family's homestead property. We have 9 children, from 27 right down to 2. I drive a school bus and own a small well drilling company, Jyl is a physiotherapist.

Why the Owner Chose Cheticamp: It started as a beach house for the family, we all enjoy the ocean . The location was perfect because it was only 1/2 hour from our home in Margaree and close to Jyl's work.

The Unique Benefits of this Cottage: Our cottage is located on a strip of land on the beach, with magnificent sunsets and island views toward the front and Cheticamp harbour, full of birds and plants with a mountain back drop to the rear. The site offers a panoramic view of the ocean, island, harbour, wild life and mountains. We're one minute off the Cabot Trail and five minutes to Cheticamp with the Cape Breton Highlands National Park about 10 minutes away.

C'est un endroit parfait pour décrocher de tout. La maison est parfaitement équipée et très propre. Nous y avons séjourné en famille et tout le monde a adoré.

Beautiful Site and Neat House

  • 5 of 5

This is a great location for setting off to explore the national park, and a really neat site in its own right, with beautiful views and a private (rocky) beach. A better, publicly accessible, spot for swimming is just a few hundred yards down the shore. Some interesting bird life hanging around.

The house is really fun with some industrial design features, such as a glass panel garage door that opens to the outside. Well furnished, nice upstairs bedrooms and an open floor plan downstairs.

Great Week in Cheticamp

  • 5 of 5

Our family (2 daughters / 2 parents) really enjoyed our week in Cheticamp. The cottage was clean, convenient, and relaxing with great views. Everything we needed was at the cottage, and the Cheticamp Co-op is a short drive away for food. We enjoyed bonfires on the beach, hiking in the National Park, swimming at Whale Cove and the Gypsum Mine, and meeting new people in Cheticamp.

Perfect setting to experience Cape Breton

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying in this bright, open, airy, all around delightful home. There were beautiful sunrises, awesome sunsets, toasty fires on the beach, a resident bald eagle that made a showing each morning, and views all around, even from inside the house. The house was clean and exactly as described. John stopped by to welcome us and offer any assistance (which we did not need as everything went smoothly). Cheticamp was our base for hiking in the park, as well as experiencing the west coast of Cape Breton, and embarking on a zodiac whale tour.

Great place and location!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I really enjoyed the cabin and the incredible views! The proximity to the park was perfect for day hikes in the park and exploring the Cabot Trail. The cabin was very clean and well stocked and the overhead door made for a nice touch. It's a beautiful part of the world that we hadn't seen before but we hope to make it back some day!

Great view & so peaceful

  • 5 of 5

If you want a great place to relax and enjoy the sound of the waves, watching the eagles, the family of fox that visit each day, this is the place for you. It is also at the edge of the Cape Breton National Park, where there are many hiking trails that you can enjoy each day. We recommend that if you are going to hike each day, buy your pass for that day only. There is not discount for a multiple day pass.

As for the house, it has all the amenities that you need to enjoy your stay, a great view of the mountains, and the beach. The owner is very personable and will take care of any requests that you might have. Beds are comfortable, plenty of books to read and games to play.
