This place is my sanctuary. I’ve been here three times now, and can’t wait to go back. The moment we walk in the door, I feel welcome and happy. That sense of welcome pervades the entire house, which somehow manages to be both spacious and cozy. There are huge windows everywhere, surrounding you with ambient light and stunning views of the lake.

We spent most of our time in the enormous great room. It extends from the front of the house, which is anchored by the original stone fireplace, to the dining area and wall of windows in the back. The dining area has enough seating for everyone in your extended family, including your Auntie Mame and your Cousin It. I started each day by pondering the meaning of life with a great big cup of coffee, gazing at the lake from the dining room table. And those tables are good for more than meals. They’re just begging you to play a game of cards, or haul out one of the many board games provided for guests. The kitchen is loaded with anything you can imagine needing. I had visions of cooking some fancy-dancy dishes while I was there, but…nah. Too many other important things to do. Like catch fireflies.

If you want something a bit more intimate, there are lots of great nooks and crannies to snuggle up in. I especially enjoyed the sun porch, which looks out on the lake and has a nice collection of books lining its shelves. While I must confess that I spent some time pecking away on my laptop from this perch (they do provide good internet), the allure of holding a hardcover book in my hands, coupled with the warmth of the sun on my face, eventually seduced me into extricating myself from my usual digital quagmire. I unplugged.

There is something about this house and its setting that makes me feel as if I have gone back in time. It is beautifully decorated, with just the right balance of knotty pine walls, soothing color palettes and whimsical rustic touches. A perfect blend of nature, nostalgia, and modern-day comfort. All four of the bedrooms are charming. The master bedroom is especially spacious, with an expansive view of the lake.

The owners are friendly and considerate, and expert at making you feel comfortable. On one trip, I was by myself when a huge snowstorm came in. Katy made sure I was dug out and plowed out. I got to watch the lake freeze and then unfreeze, snug as a bug in a rug. Magical.

This is truly a bucolic place. I have found it to be good for the soul, and a healing balm for the heart.

Wonderful House!

Great weekend in a wonderful house. Very well appointed and comfortable. We have stayed in many homes and have to say Katie has done an exceptional job with this one. She was super responsive to a couple small problems.

Truly a "HomeAway" From Home!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter, who recently moved to New Jersey from NYC, found this beautiful lakeside home for our family so that we could be together to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday. Years ago, when our four children were small, we spent several summers at a house on Lake Arrowhead, CA. Our family has many happy memories of that house. When we asked my husband how he wanted to spend this milestone birthday, he replied, "...sit by a lake and BBQ". Never did I think we could find a similar place on the East coast. However, my daughter hit the jackpot...this house was perfect! The lake views, the spacious rooms, the kitchen, all of the amenities (dishes, pans, towels, tablecloths, books, games, kayaks, a boat, a dock, a fire pit, a BBQ), everything was there. We felt as if we were back on Lake Arrowhead again! Fortunately, 3 of our 4 children were able to make it, along with our son-in-law and the girlfriend of my youngest son (who perhaps will be a future daughter-in-law...we now know she helps out with dishes and general clean-up, a good sign!). My husband had an unforgettable birthday and we hope to come back for many more family reunions. And, there is plenty of room for future grandchildren in the years to come! I also need to mention that the owner of the house, Katy, is very thoughtful and helpful. She keeps this house cozy and clean and after just one visit, it already seems like home.

Lovely and very comfortable home and setting.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful home. Midwestern branch of the clan was in the area for a family wedding at nearby Mineral Springs Resort. This house is roomy and comfortable and the best-supplied of any vacation home we've rented. Views of the lake from the enormous great room are spectacular. Alas, the weather did not cooperate (it rained nearly the whole week) so we didn't get to enjoy the lovely grounds and lake much, but the paddle boat did get out for a few spins. We played games, watched movies and cooked together and it was a great reunion. Kitchen has everything one might need to feed a big group. The French press made great coffee, but if you have a bunch of coffee drinkers you might want to bring a larger pot. Also, FYI, the crib is set up in the Master br and stays there or in the huge closet, if not needed. This required that we rearrange our sleeping plan a bit. The home was very clean and well-furnished. Working with owner, Katy, was a pleasure. She was helpful and quickly responsive to all inquiries before and during our stay. WiFi worked perfectly for all of us. Highly recommend this property.

Beautiful & Relaxing Weekend Escape

  • 5 of 5

We loved every second of our stay at this beautiful lake house! We spent the weekend with a group of our friends and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. We felt so cozy and warm and wish we didn't have to leave. The views of the lake are simply gorgeous, we couldn't get enough of the picturesque view. The lake house itself is stunning and beautiful. We absolutely loved our stay here and are so happy that we all spent the weekend here. The lovely owner Katy, was always very helpful with any questions we had and very accommodating. We hope to come back here soon, hopefully when it is warm! We highly recommend this beautiful home, where you can escape and relax and feel peaceful and right at home. :) -Jane

Home away from Home

  • 5 of 5

My parents recently downsized now that all of us children are grown. We rented this home for Christmas so that we could all be together. It was amazing. It was far enough away from town that it felt like a getaway but there was a local general store around the corner to pick up milk and such. The home did not “feel” like a rental. Everything was really well cared for and comfortable. The bedrooms have more blankets then you will ever need. The kitchen is fully stocked with top of the line appliances. We cooked two large meals and had everything we needed from utensils, to serving trays, to holiday themed placements. There were small Christmas decorations around the home which was a nice touch. The dining room/eating area was large enough to accommodate my entire family, their significate others and friends of the family. There was enough table space and chairs for us to all sit down and eat together. The common space of the home is HUGE with plenty of small seating areas so that you could be around everyone else but still feel like you had your own space. I have a toddler and was shocked that they had a closet full of toys and even had a bin of bath toys in the linin closet. The upstairs loft worked out well for my siblings are still in college. The room had its own TV and plenty of kids’ books, toys, and movies. The view of the lake was just beautiful. We did some fishing and caught lots of fish. My brothers took the kayaks out and my dad and sister took the canoe to an island and fished. The weather was surprisingly warm for December. The home had only one bathroom on the main floor. The other full bathroom is in the master. We don’t mind sharing so it wasn’t an issue. The one bedroom door did not latch all the way but that’s what you get if you want the charm of an old home. It was easy to keep an eye on my toddler with such an open floor plan but the windows go all the way down to the floor. Makes for a great view and lots of natural light but I would have been nervous to have them open. Lucky for me we were there in the winter.
