I'm Gráinne, originally from Co. Kildare and raised in a small family run hotel. I am married to Tim who is now retired from An Garda Siochána (Irish Police). Tim and I purchased this property in 1986 and lived here for a number of years until our family grew and we needed to relocate. We loved living in this area and have many happy memories of our first home here. I have consistently worked in the hospitality industry and always wanted to provide holiday accommodation here as I felt this to be an ideal location. I have been lucky enough to have realized my dream. I pay particular attention to detail and set the highest of standards in cleanliness and customer care. Our aim is to ensure that you really feel at home and comfortable in our apartment and we will endeavor to assist you in any way with any aspect of your vacation, so that you get the most out of your trip to Dublin. We are at the end of the phone 24 hours a day if you need any assistance. Assuring you of our best attention.
Grainne. purchased this Apartment in 1986
Why Grainne. chose Inchicore
We chose this location because of close proximity to downtown Dublin. We loved the period red brick property with large rooms. Fantastic large enclosed rear which is very private and unusual for a city centre property. Easy access to any part of the countryside and still only 10 minutes from downtown. Nice residential old part of Dublin with true Dublin characters in abundance. Settled community with lots of nice neighbors whom you can be sure will speak to you if you bump into them. All facilities such as banks, pharmacies, supermarkets, butchers, gas station, restaurants, pubs, hair and beauty salons, dry cleaners, etc on the street. Super public transport with the Luas and Dublin bus.
What makes this Apartment unique
The most unique benefit is the location. Only 10 minutes from downtown Dublin with that real at home feeling when you arrive back after your day out. The house was built in the 1800's and has a lovely spacious and tranquil feeling to it. I love the large rooms and high ceilings with the original coving and open fire which is really cozy on a Winter's evening. In the Summer time, we enjoyed many barbeques out back, and found it peaceful and quiet. One huge benefit and highly unusual in a city apartment is the amount of both indoor and outdoor space.

Wonderful location and great communication with hosts.
Out of the way...confusing...
Everyone travels overnight to get to their destinations, wanting a hot shower and a comfortable room. We arrived to a cold room and no hot water a double? bed and no help in fixing for several hours. We were moved to smaller room that did have heat and water but one of us had to sleep on a couch because the bed was so small. Just figuring how to turn on the lights was time consuming. Our unit's amenities did not include a coffee machine, but we eventually learned how to use the coffee press, we had to go out and purchase shampoo and body soap. When someone was using hot water the "tank?" made loud noises in the living room which was annoying to the person relegated to the couch or just watching TV. Grainne and her husband were accessible and eventually sent people to help. The neighborhood was friendly but we were really isolated as to getting around. The hop on hop off was quite crowded, the taxis were a bit expensive. It was wonderful to be able to email and communicate with Grainne before arrival. We were picked up and dropped off at the airport by Rory who was quite helpful. We wish that we were met by someone who 'cared'. We were given early access but waited several uncomfortable hours to get warm and have a hot shower. The apartments were clean, the linens were old but clean. We would not return here, but stay in a more central location. We love the freedom of having a kitchen and sitting room but in this instance we would have chosen a hotel in a central location with hot water and bigger beds. Grannie was very nice in refunding one nights rent as we made a mistake and included in the total the night we were in flight. We did get our deposit returned after a week. Wish someone would have given us this information, hope it helps someone else.
Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear your comments. Your flight arrived early in the morning, and although our check in time is 2pm, we were happy to oblige you with an early check in at no additional cost. We did as you say arrange transportation from the airport and were happy to refund you for the first night, when you realised you would not arrive transatlantic until early the following morning. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control that morning, the heating which is set on a timer malfunctioned. This was due to previous guests interfering with the heating dials. You arrived at 8am, went for breakfast and returned at 11am. It is unfair to say that you received no help as our cleaning staff were on the premises trying valiantly to fix the heating issue. By 1pm, we moved you to another apartment as you were unhappy to wait for maintenance to arrive to fix the heating in the original apartment that was booked. Please remember, our check in time is 2pm, which would normally give us a window to address any issues that may arise. In hindsight, we could have refused the early check in as most hotels would do, and this issue would have been sorted before your check in time. We were aware that you were tired as you were apt to point out, so we facilitated you as best we could by moving you to the other apartment.
All our beds are double size and we do not advertise any different, so we are surprised by your comments re; this. A double bed is usually good for 2 people. We understand that coming from a different continent, that of course light fittings etc. will be different. Usually all this is part of the experience of travelling. We did our utmost to facilitate you, literally turning on the tv etc, so again we are somewhat perplexed by some of your comments about not being met by someone who cared. Our apartment is 50 metres from the nearest bus stop, so again we are surprised that you found it difficult to get around. Vacation rentals are not for everyone, and as you mention yourself, you may have been better in a city centre hotel and paying the extra money it would entail. We are disappointed and sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations and hope that your review will assist others when choosing what type of accommodation they might prefer to choose.
Fantastic 2-week stay in this apartment
Fantastic 2-week stay in this apartment in Inchicore, providing a village experience within the larger Dublin area. What made this an excellent housing choice was the ability to leisurely explore what Dublin has to offer, its people and places. A hotel room would never serve this purpose for us. We made extensive use of the bus and tram system almost at our doorstep to get into the center of Dublin. We also enjoyed walking the local areas, including the gardens and Museum of Modern Art at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, the Kilmainham Gaol, and the War Memorial gardens.
The apartment (one of four) was well decorated, very clean, and maintained. We enjoyed regular contact with Valerie, the local manager, who provided helpful information about the area and looked after any of our needs. She is a great example of the Irish hospitality that we found throughout our 3-week holiday in Ireland. We cooked in often and also enjoyed the excellent local Italian restaurant (Enoteca Torino) and a place for a quick lunch across the street from the Kilmainham Gaol (Lime Tree). Great places for dinner in Dublin included Chapter One (an excellent pre-theater splurge) and L Mulligan Grocer, a pub with great food.
We have used HomeAway many times over the years to find the perfect living arrangement for us and have always been delighted with our choice.
comfy and pleasant place to stay in Dublin
The flat has pretty much everything one needs for a comfy stay. It is very conveniently located with bus stops and grocery store nearby. It seems to be efficiently managed without the fussiness.
There is a kindergarten or daycare next door. If you head out early for your days of exploring before the kids get there, you'd not know it is there; it's nothing that a set of double pane windows can't fix.
Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.
Very nice place, just needs a little upgrading. Location good for transportation. Floors very loud.
This place has above average potential if it had a few upgrades. First and most try to rent the up stairs flat. From the ground floor you can hear every step by the above guest. I'm sure this is due to the old building, The place is abit smaller than it appears in the foto butIt has had a very nice upgrade to the bath, however the shower is missing caulking and some mold was present. No real problems! The location is perfect for catching the local transportation with local eateries & food stores nearby. Our on site host (Valerie) was fantastic who knew the area very well and led us in the right direction every time. She checked on us every day to see if we needed anything. The place was very quiet with little traffic. The bed could be improved abit due to its single mattrice but we did sleep pretty well due to the fact we we're extremely tired after a full day of activitys. I would give this place a diamond in the rough.
