Why Helen Shustikov chose St. George
We already owned one house in downtown Staten Island, when we came into some money and started looking for another one. Helen spotted this property by chance walking around and knew it was the one we needed. The owner was ready to take it off the market, but we tracked him down and persuaded him to sell.
What makes this Apartment unique
This is a unique house on a unique street, a row of eight identical Victorians, all preserved intact from the 1870s (we think), set back from the street by an elevated sidewalk with abundant trees and greenery. Our neighborhood is one of the more racially and economically diverse in a city famous for that -- with hippie cafe owners, struggling immigrants and infiltrating hipsters all sharing the same territory. Again, not for everybody, but we love it.

Autumn getaway in NYC
We spent a wonderful week at Helen's property. The house was old, yet clean and just as described in the listing.
I recommend this apartment to anyone who seeks an escape from the hustle and the bustle of the city. You shouldn't mind walking stairs though, cause Staten Island is pretty hilly and there are lots of stairs in the property.
My children very much enjoyed staying in the house and having their bedromms upstairs.
Will return to this property if I get the chance to come back to NYC.
Our group absolutely loved this house
I definitely Recommend using Lyft to the ferry instead of walking if u plan on walking all day. The house was perfect for our group and we never felt unsafe. Their are several doordash restaurants around for breakfast and early morning dinners
Thank you. Please come again!
Great base for NYC
Spent 10 nights in August it was a good base to go over to the city every day, it's a mile walk to the Ferry port, the neighbourhood you walk through might not be what you are use to but we had no problems, we got a taxi back each night from outside H&M by ferry cost $7-10
Lots of space and clean the property could do with updating but not a problem for us, only turn left out of the house as stated.
had a small issue with the air con on the first day but this was sorted out within hours so all good.
We did not do any cooking as we spent all day in NYC
So all was good for us, family of three,

Our stay on Staten Island
This was an interesting property. It certainly had character. It’s location to New York meant we could easily visit the city but have the space to get away. Helen is quite clear in her description about the area and once we got our bearings found the locality to be cosmopolitan and intriguing. At no point did we feel unsafe.
The property could do with a bit of a fresh lick of paint but still aim to maintain it’s charm. We did struggle a bit with the heat and humidity and would perhaps recommend better air conditioning but maybe if we stayed for longer would get accustomed to Staten Is hot weather.
Helen’s directions on restaurants in the area was helpful and I would recommend pier 76 for good, delicious food. A typical American/Italian diner.
We used this property as a base for seeing New York. It did the job.
Thank you for staying. There is not much we can do about New York in August being hotter than our guest's home base in UK. Our circa 1875 house does not have central air. But this apartment is now outfitted with four room conditioners. Should keep cool under any circumstances.
Good base for Manhattan. Friendly owner. Property tired.
Cheap price for new York
Had a problem with ants in kitchen.
Also mouse droppings under sofas.
We made quick improvements in all these areas. Bought a new six-seater sofa set to spruce up living room. Put down more ant traps and counter-attacked aggressively against mice wo seemed to have a bumper breeding season in record heat this July. Thanks for the feedback
Our neighborhood is known as either Downtown Staten Island or St. George, a vibrant, multicultural "up-and-coming" area across New York Bay from Lower Manhattan. If you enjoy urban settings where people of different skin colors and economic groups live close together, you will fit right in.
