About Pam and Dan Leffers
We are from Fort Wayne, Indiana. I am a contractor and my wife is retired after a career in non-profit. We enjoy outdoor activities, travel and family get-togethers. We have two sons who are married and two grandchildren.
Pam and Dan Leffers purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why Pam and Dan Leffers chose Syracuse
Our family has owned property on Papakeechie for over 40 years. We love the lake and the area. Our family cottage is next door to this cabin and we purchased the cabin to provide extra space when needed and to protect our investment.
What makes this Cabin unique
This lake is a vacation for the body and the mind. There is no hustle and bustle here, no jet skis roaring by and no waves crashing to shore. The loudest noise we hear are geese flying by or the sound of paddle boats in the water.
100% refund if cancelled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Papakeechie Red Cottage
Pam and Dan were wonderful hosts! Very helpful with timely communication. Everything as described. The property is idyllic; great view of placid lake. Great place for refreshing body, soul and spirit! Can't wait to return.
The Red Cottage
We have stayed at the Red Cottage for several years now and love it. The view from the deck is amazing. The lake is clean and motor-free. The cabin is well stocked with essentials. There are a paddle boat, row boat, and kayaks on the premises. The owners are friendly and responsive.
Beautiful view, good workout, well equipped cabin.
We enjoyed our stay, cabin has everything you need to have a good time, beautiful views, peaceful lake and quaint towns to visit and enjoy. We arrived in a terrible rain storm and the cabin was hard to find and very steep drive and walk ways made it tough, but cabin has a beautiful setting. Cabin was musty and damp when we arrived and took a day to dry out. Overall a great stay, just to much hill climbing for me and my health.
I'm afraid we've had the wettest spring and early summer ever. This had created some "mustiness" on the main floor which is built in to the side of a hill. The air conditioner helps, but the best thing has been the sunshine that we've finally seen. You're right that the beauty of the lake and being right on the water requires some energy to navigate the stairs.
Unfortunatly it rained most of the time or was too cold to go swimming but the time there was amazing. We spent quality time together and was able to rent a boat from Griffiths and got to see the house I spent most summers. The only draw back from the house was an unpleasant smell on the bottom floor. Every thing else was great.
We had a great time. Did a lot of kayaking and saw a lot of bluegill and bass. There were a few carp and we did see a few northern pike. We caught bass and bluegill. Of course the big pike got away before the camera was able to capture it! It was fun bringing him in though.
FYI Cabin is on a steep grade and the steps or lack there of would be challenging for someone with mobility issues. Good workout for us!
Great cabin & generous hosts. Will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area!
Lake Papakeechie is a private lake that does not permit motors of any kind. Rowboats, canoes, kayak, paddleboats and sailboats are welcome. This ensures a peaceful environment with excellent fishing and safe swimming. The public boat ramp for Lake Wawasee is one mile away for skiing and boating. The Tri-County Game Preserve with excellent hiking and hunting backs up to this property.
