About the property

The John Day Valley is located in Eastern Oregon, approximately 125 miles east of Bend, Ore & 190 miles west of Boise, Idaho & 120 miles south of Pendelton, Ore. & 75 miles North of Burns, Ore. The two highways to John Day are Hwy 26, east/west and Hwy 395 north/south.

The John Day Airport is located 2 miles from town on the plateau above the town.

It is in the Strawberry Mt. wilderness country and quite spectacular and accessible to several wilderness areas. The John Day river system, the last undamned system in the US.

This property is centrally located in area that provides many activities year around, house accommodates, many group sizes, from 1 person to 14 people. There are 5 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, Kitchen is fully equiped for what you would like to cook and serve. This home is great for wedding receptions, family gathereings, and many other events that may need a lot of space, there's a large yard which could be used for large gatherings with large fireplace for cooking outdoors, plenty of off street parking, owners live near by in case to answer questions or help with questions that might arise, close to canyon creek and sightings of many deer which like to come to graze in the yard and eat the apples from the tree in the yard, restaurants and banks with in walking distance, It is in easy driving distance from most all the sites in the basin including the main, south, north and middle forks of the John Day River, Mogone Lake, Murderers Creek, Bear Valley, and the Strawberry and Aldrich Mts. and Blue Mts. look out towers, Kiberley Orchards for picking fresh fruit which is in season, the John Day fossil beds and museum, many trails for hiking, walking, horse back riding, quad riding. Lot's of streams and John Day river for fishing, boating, kayaking, rafting, and several swimming holes and near hunting areas, and winter events.

This is a relatively untouched country in many ways.

There are many back roads and 'circle' drives around the entire county and close enough to other great sites for reasonable day trips or over nights, such as the Steens Mountain/Alvord desert country.

Like I said, drive in or fly in and enjoy some very special country and good people.

About Owner

This house was purchased from a family member and some remoldeling has taken place on the inside to make it more appealing and usable. Living in the area for over 50 years has been rewarding in meeting new people and making it easy to stay in touch with ole friends.

Why Owner chose John Day

This property has been in the family for many years and we want to keep it that way.. We have everything here except for the ocean, and being able to see the beautiful mountains around us everyday is such a treat. It's wonderful how the community comes together and stands together on different issues. I just like to call it home.

What makes this house unique

This home has character, it's style is fun and it has so much room inside. To be able to have a place that is safe and relaxing for folks to visit and feel like their at home is and has been our goal. When guests tell you they want to stay and not go is very rewarding, knowing that they love it here as much as we do. The yard is amazing with this house, it has a built in firplace which has been here for over 50 years and it's usable, you can cook on it and relax in the yard, watch the deer as they come to feed off the apple trees, sit back and see the mountain peeks around you, in the evening look up and count the stars, there is so much to enjoy here!!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We would like to thank our latest guests for their thoughtfulness, and for being such wonderful people. We enjoyed you staying with us.

Take Care,

Quiet, with comfy beds

  • 4 of 5

This house had a cozy den with a wood stove that was a great place for playing games or watching TV. Plenty of dishes for the number of people. The hosts decorated the house for the Christmas Holiday, and even had Christmas goodies waiting. An additional folding table and chairs for eating would have more comfortably accommodated the number of people that were in the party. House was very close to downtown shops and restaurants, Plenty of parking for multiple cars. Games and activities for kids. Overall, a nice classic home.

Nice place

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay here at the Spa House. Not certain of the name origin... Very accommodating for all the people we had here. There isn't many, if any, homes to rent in the John day area with 5 bedrooms. We had a great time, and if we ever have a need for the large space again, will definitely come back to the Spa House...

Great Family Stay

  • 4 of 5

Great place to stay for me and my family. Having a place other then a motel for the Grandkids to play and feel at home. A wonderful place to stay if you are planning on being in John Day for several days and need a place to cook, relax, and allow the kiddos to run around.
