Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 5 with sofa bed

The Wild and Wonderful mountains of West Virginia are the perfect vacation getaway for this property. Only two hours drive from Washington D.C., (3 hours Baltimore, 3 1/2 hours Richmond, 5 hours Philadelphia) this private cabin is secluded in the woods and offers you the pristine beauty of the Shenandoah Mountains. Near the George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Park, there are a wide range of recreational activities: swimming, horseback riding, hiking, antiquing, fishing, canoeing, archery, as well as fine dining or simple, country eating. During the winter months, skiing is convenient. Lots to choose from or just relax and enjoy a sweet cabin in the woods.

Adventures Abound: From Washingtonian Magazine May 2006 - : 'The Lost River Valley of West Virginia has been found.' 'Tucked between two mountain ridges, the valley, a couple of hours from Washington, is drawing more weekenders. The lure is rugged woodland scenery, tumbling mountain streams, and outdoor fun - hiking, fishing, biking, canoeing, swimming, rafting, climbing, horseback riding.' You'll have your choice of the Lost River State Park, where the Hidden Trails Stables is located for horseback riding, archery, outdoor pool, tennis and a restaurant. Also nearby is the Trout Pond Recreation Area at the George Washington National Forest, with fishing, a gentle lake with a beach for swimming, lovely light walking or more serious hiking.

Serenity: The moment you enter our cabin retreat, you'll be struck by the scent of fresh pine. The cabin is inlaid from floor to ceiling with fresh pine wood and the sweet, woodsy, smell will be with you throughout your stay. It is an authentic country cabin which has been modernized, by bumping out a bay window and building a sun room, so there's lots of light to be had and includes all of the modern amenities, with A/C. You'll have both the rural mountain feel and all of the conveniences from home. Perfect for a romantic getaway or kids will love our back yard where they can knock around a soccer ball. This is a back to nature locale for a couple or a family with children.

Local Restaurants and Shops: While we are a getaway, there are still local businesses to visit during your time in Lost River. The Guest House at Lost River has fine dining with a 40 seat restaurant and bar operating on weekends throughout the year. Lost River General Store offers crafts, lunch and ice cream for tourists on the shopping prowl. Lost River Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the year, as well as an evening bar with Karaoke on weekends. South End Grocery will offer any of your other household needs.

Notes:
We have another cabin which sleeps 5 and adjoins our property which is also available to rent. Perfect for larger groups or family reunions. We have a flat screen TV with a DVD player. There is no cable or satellite television. There is also an HTMl cord to plug in your laptop to our flat screen to stream movies. We now have an Apple TV at the cabin. It is plugged into the HDMl 2 outlet. So to view, turn on the Sony remote and the Vizio remote. On Vizio remote go to Input and choose HDMl 2 for Apple TV or HDMl 1, if you wish to plug your own computer into the screen. There is also a small silver remote for the Apple TV. It’s simple to use and easy to figure out. Just push center button and Menu. Voila ! If you want to watch Netflix, sign in using Gordon. Cell phone reception is nonexistent in Lost River, but our land line works.

Awesome Cabin!!! You will NOT regret renting it!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this cabin for last minute getaway! Making the reservation was easy as pie and Gordon, the owner, is very kind and responsive. The cabin itself is extremely cute – it looks much better in person than the pictures suggest!! We loved the cabin so much we barely left!! The couch is extremely comfortable and once you sit on it, you don’t want to get up! There is a fireplace in the den which when lit just added to the cabin feel! I appreciated the attention to detail in regards to the cabin’s decorations!! There are board games, puzzles and lots of DVD’s! The cabin has internet and we brought our laptop which we connected to the TV and we were able to stream Netflix with no problem! I was also very happy that there was a charcoal grill on site! We spent a lot of time outside enjoying the fresh air and grilling! My dogs enjoyed exploring the land around the cabin as well! I would without a doubt recommend this cabin to anyone and everyone, and in fact I have already recommended it to friends and co-workers!

Beautiful and relaxing Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

The Cabin was well located, beautifully appointed, comfortable beds and spotlessly clean throughout the inside. However, the cleaning of the screened in porch was overlooked. It was full of dust and dog hair andWe had to sweep and dust all the chairs and furniture before we could enjoy it . But , enjoy it we didf for

a cozy rainy afternoon of reading with a glass of wine. Otherwise, everything was perfect ! An excellent place to stay in Lost River.

Much needed time of de-stressing found at this wonderful mountain get-away!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived all the busyness of our daily lives just floated away. Gordon has provided a charming cabin which was everything we were expecting. Speaking as one who has a hard time sitting still I found the view of the forest and mountain so calming. The second morning we woke up to a doe and her fawn just outside the cabin. There are some updates to the cabin, new windows, some new furniture and a gas grill. But the one which made it even more relaxing was the screened in porch. We spent most of our time either there or in the sun room. The two bedrooms were equipped with window air conditioners which kept the cabin quite cool. Even 3 straight days of rain did not dampen our enjoyment of this piece of West Virginia’s beauty. We spent a day driving around and went horseback riding at the state park. A couple things to be advised of: we brought almost everything we needed but did not find a good source of groceries nearby to get milk. Finally found some at the gas station/store between Lost River and Baker. Also, many of the places to visit were only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We highly recommend the Lost River Grill. They have some nice week night specials and fresh pies. Thank you, Gordon, for providing such a beautiful cabin. We hope very much to return some day.

Wonderful Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd time staying at this mountain retreat. It has everything one needs for a peaceful, convenient and comfortable visit. We've thoroughly enjoyed our stay each time. It is particularly nice that dogs are allowed. We've gone for walks along the road each morning and then hiked around Trout Pond later in the afternoon. Its location is terrific and yet the cabin is comfortable enough if rain keeps one in. We are considering a visit in the fall.

Quiet and Relaxing Cabin, Comfortable Inside

  • 5 of 5

We spent a weekend at this sweet cabin which was quiet and relaxing and it had everything necessary for a pleasant stay: air conditioner, kitchen staff, nice and clean beds, fast internet to watch Youtube, Hulu or something else. There were children books available so my daughter enjoyed reading them while there. I think we will visit it again in future. Finally, the owner has been great in responding to messages and a small request we had related to my daughter. I certainly recommend this nice cabin for those who want to get away from city and rest
