Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 5 with sofa bed

The Wild and Wonderful mountains of West Virginia are the perfect vacation getaway for this property. Only two hours drive from Washington D.C., (3 hours Baltimore, 3 1/2 hours Richmond, 5 hours Philadelphia) this private cabin is secluded in the woods and offers you the pristine beauty of the Shenandoah Mountains. Near the George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Park, there are a wide range of recreational activities: swimming, horseback riding, hiking, antiquing, fishing, canoeing, archery, as well as fine dining or simple, country eating. During the winter months, skiing is convenient. Lots to choose from or just relax and enjoy a sweet cabin in the woods.

Adventures Abound: From Washingtonian Magazine May 2006 - : 'The Lost River Valley of West Virginia has been found.' 'Tucked between two mountain ridges, the valley, a couple of hours from Washington, is drawing more weekenders. The lure is rugged woodland scenery, tumbling mountain streams, and outdoor fun - hiking, fishing, biking, canoeing, swimming, rafting, climbing, horseback riding.' You'll have your choice of the Lost River State Park, where the Hidden Trails Stables is located for horseback riding, archery, outdoor pool, tennis and a restaurant. Also nearby is the Trout Pond Recreation Area at the George Washington National Forest, with fishing, a gentle lake with a beach for swimming, lovely light walking or more serious hiking.

Serenity: The moment you enter our cabin retreat, you'll be struck by the scent of fresh pine. The cabin is inlaid from floor to ceiling with fresh pine wood and the sweet, woodsy, smell will be with you throughout your stay. It is an authentic country cabin which has been modernized, by bumping out a bay window and building a sun room, so there's lots of light to be had and includes all of the modern amenities, with A/C. You'll have both the rural mountain feel and all of the conveniences from home. Perfect for a romantic getaway or kids will love our back yard where they can knock around a soccer ball. This is a back to nature locale for a couple or a family with children.

Local Restaurants and Shops: While we are a getaway, there are still local businesses to visit during your time in Lost River. The Guest House at Lost River has fine dining with a 40 seat restaurant and bar operating on weekends throughout the year. Lost River General Store offers crafts, lunch and ice cream for tourists on the shopping prowl. Lost River Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the year, as well as an evening bar with Karaoke on weekends. South End Grocery will offer any of your other household needs.

Awesome Cabin!!! You will NOT regret renting it!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this cabin for last minute getaway! Making the reservation was easy as pie and Gordon, the owner, is very kind and responsive. The cabin itself is extremely cute – it looks much better in person than the pictures suggest!! We loved the cabin so much we barely left!! The couch is extremely comfortable and once you sit on it, you don’t want to get up! There is a fireplace in the den which when lit just added to the cabin feel! I appreciated the attention to detail in regards to the cabin’s decorations!! There are board games, puzzles and lots of DVD’s! The cabin has internet and we brought our laptop which we connected to the TV and we were able to stream Netflix with no problem! I was also very happy that there was a charcoal grill on site! We spent a lot of time outside enjoying the fresh air and grilling! My dogs enjoyed exploring the land around the cabin as well! I would without a doubt recommend this cabin to anyone and everyone, and in fact I have already recommended it to friends and co-workers!

Cozy Cabin getaway in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We chose Gordon's rental last minute, deciding to schedule a little getaway for just my husband and I and our dog, after a family wedding, and we are so glad we did. Gordon was exceptional in getting us in quickly, and making sure we had the great time we were looking for. At the end of the lane the cabin is on is an amazing restaurant, and then at the end of that country road is an awesome cafe - with great coffee, breakfast, lunch, and gifts. And wine! We fell in love with Lost City and with this great place to stay! Lost River State Park is amazing and so is the town of Wardansville nearby. Not that we needed to get out the cabin, it was so cozy I could sat in that sun room all day, or on the screened in porch. Well-decorated and stocked!

Felt at Home While Getting Away from it All

  • 4 of 5

After about our first 24 hours at Cabin Sweet Cabin, my husband was pretty much ready to have our mail and belongings forwarded! We treasured our escape from the city to this homey cabin in the Lost River woods and mountains. We chose this cabin because of the pet-friendly policy - our two dogs loved it as much as we did - as well as the siting, surrounded by trees, yet with a bit of a level yard and spectacular views of woods, mountains, and sky. The additional amenities of A/C and WiFi also were important to our selection and our enjoyment. Our primary goal was to do a whole lot of nothing but relaxing around the cabin, which we achieved especially in the sun room, screened porch, and yard. We did venture out to hike the trails in Lost River State Park, and to support the Lost River Artists Co-op, General Store, and Farmer's Market all just a few miles away. The owner was a pleasure to interact with, very responsive and thorough, as was the local manager on-call when minor questions arose. The owner has thought of just about everything to make the stay comfortable and ensure that guests are well provided for, with lots of information in the Guest Book, and quality furnishings, dishes, cookware, and towels in the cabin. We definitely would recommend this property to friends, and hope to bring some with us next time.

A Relaxing Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

Owner response to my interest was immediate, all dealings were cordial and clear. Specific travel instructions, found cabin right away. Went by the photos when selecting and was very pleased. Description was accurate, full amenities, everything was first rate. Neat and clean, nicely decorated. We stayed for 4 relaxing and comfortable days. Went hiking in the nearby Lost River Park, ate at the wonderful Guesthouse Restaurant, right down the road. Had a fantastic time, would stay again. Highly recommend.

Thankful for Cabin Sweet Cabin on Thanksgiving!

  • 5 of 5

Gordon was a pleasure to work with while arranging our stay. He provided lots of information pertaining to the area and took the time to speak on the phone prior to our visit.

The cabin was perfect for our 4 person group. We enjoyed lounging around the house when we weren't out hiking at the State Park or getting to know the locals at the Lost River Grill and Guesthouse. The Grill has a great bar area for watching sports and the Guesthouse has a really cool upstairs with a pool table and games (worth checking out!). The Guesthouse is also just a short walk down the hill from the cabin. Would highly recommend a visit to both restaurants for a snack or a drink, and make sure to stop in some of the shops while you are in the area! There is a market/specialty shop as you pull into the drive near the house that has some local meats and eggs, as well as apparel and gifts.

The cabin does not have cable but there are lots of great movies to choose from. We had a group of UofM and Ohio State Alum and had no problem connecting to the internet to watch the game via laptop. Since we were visiting over Thanksgiving we had quite a few meals around the table. Gordon had everything we needed to cook our Thanksgiving Feast and set a beautiful table.

All in all it was a fabulous stay and our whole group agreed we would go back. A sincere thank you to Gordon for creating such a lovely getaway so close to the DMV.
