The apartment looked a lot better in the pictures. The place was a bit tired and could have done with a bit of a spruce up. The facilities were basic in that the crockery was mainly plastic and there were only three glasses for five of us. One of those was a yoghurt pot! Brooklyn was fine but maybe a bit dodgy at night. The walk from the metro was a good 15 mins and the ride into manhatton varied from 30 mins upwards. We bought weekly metro cards which worked well.
Sheila the hostess was very helpful on the messages prior to the trip and met us at the door. All in all we got what we paid for.
It is a 3 bedroom in bed stuy, as advertised, and the rooms all fit a king sized bed but just barely. The beds are ok, the bathrooms were fine. The kitchen/ living/ dining area are small but adequate. The place is simply but appropriately furnished with all you really need. Almost all the dishes are plastic, which is helpful with kids. Plenty of places deliver here and there are a few cute restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood.
I think the apartment should come with some basic cleaning supplies, especially for longer stays. Would be nice to have a dustpan, a swiffer, maybe something to clean bathrooms with. We had to buy a sponge to do our dishes. We didn't have any issues with the allotted amount of toilet paper, but some people have complained in the past. I think we had 4 for 4 adults and 2 kids for a week which is fine.
The owners live onsite, so entry/ exit access should be easy but we had difficulty with communication both on arrival and departure. Response to email is slow and no one answered the phone number I had when I called and texted. Once you have keys though, getting in and out is very easy and you have independent access to the apartment. The owners do ask if you need anything every time you see them, which is nice.
It is about 10 minute walk to the nearby A express stop.
Finally I do think that all the listed optional extra charges are a bit absurd. They charge a 30 dollar fee once to change from king bed to twins (the beds are set up to be either). Also the website says they would charge 40 dollars a day for use of air conditioners. Each of the rooms has a window unit installed, so this seems an excessive price just for use of them. We didn't use them so I don't know if that's changed in the interim.
Overall a pleasant stay for a good price, but can't say I was wowed.
The street where the property is located is OK, but the nearby streets are not nice at all. I've been to 45 countries and to all types of areas, so it isn't as if I'm naive. There are very nice parts of Brooklyn, and this isn't one of them. It is also a pretty long hike to the train. Not enough silverware/cutlery, no dishwasher, uncomfortable beds. We could have stayed in a hotel for the same price and had a better time.
Also, we were charged $30 extra per night to run the A/C when it was hot outside. This wasn't disclosed and the charge was outrageous for the little amount we used the A/C.
Thanks for reading.
A property well suited to six people with three large comfortable beds. It is quiet, there is a deli, supermarket and laundrette close by. To buy alcohol you have to buy it from behind plastic screen a novel experience. It is about an hour to Macys door to door and about 45mins to JFK . There is a daily charge for air conditioning. There is also a fee if you check out after 09.00. There is not enough cutlery for six people or crockery. There was only one toilet roll for two toilets for a week.
I know it has taken a couple of months to write this review but I will write now. I have to say we had a wonderful stay. Being here allowed us to feel like we were part of Brooklyn. The owner was gracious and very accommodating. I would recommend this apartment for anyone who wants to feel like they are a part of New York and not just a tourist. My husband and I have decided the next time we visit we will be staying here in Bedstuy Brooklyn! Thanks Again!
