About Bonnie & Ron Wilkins

This picture is Ron & I at the top of Mt. Baldhead, a high dune in Saugatuck. Yes, we climbed all 282 steps to this deck on the top. Lake Kalamazoo is in the background. Great view. Lake Michigan is just west of Mt. Baldhead.

Ron & I ran Wilkins Hardware Co., a unique hardware store with exceptional customer service, old-fashioned friendliness, and modern convenience and selection in the entire ground floor of the building. We made our home on the second floor, raising our 3 kids. Now we share this wonderful space with you, our guests. Welcome, and enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for a great 2 days. We thought the loft was lovely and beautifully decorated. We really enjoyed the location as we love to walk everywhere (15 miles on Friday!)

We come to Saugatuck area every summer and this was very enjoyable!

The Loft in Saugatuck Michigan

We enjoyed our stay and would go back anytime. It has lots of stairs , and we are older, however the exercise was good for us and we didnt mind.It was really fun to be right downtown, and easily enjoy all of the shops just by walking out the door!

loft apartment doesn't disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

It was girls weekend. We had such an amazing time staying in the loft apartment. We would definitely stay again! Everything was as explained. Easy parking and easy in and out of the building. We appreciate having a place like this right downtown. It sure beats a hotel. Loved it!

Beautiful decor and an ideal location for shopping, dining and walks along the waterfront. We had problems with fuses, but these were handled promptly and with little disruption to our trip. It is wonderful to have that kind of service. We will return.

A very comfortable loft and perfect location! Plenty of room and beautiful accommodations.

  • 5 of 5

The two most wonderful things about this loft is how comfort and at home I felt while staying 2 nights, and the perfect location close to every restuarant and all the shops and beautiful water views of the harbor and lake.

I will stay at this wonderful loft every time I visit Saugatuck!

Oval Beach

For more than 100 years, tourists have sought refuge from the stress of everyday life in the Saugatuck/ Douglas area - a peaceful place where no one rushes and no one rushes you. They can mellow out in surroundings reminiscent of vintage, small-town America, whose hallmarks are scenic beauty and a unique collection of shops, restaurants and art galleries. For those who want to mix relaxation with excitement, the area offers a year-round calendar of fun-filled activities and events. No wonder the National Trust for Historical Preservation designated these towns as one of the nation's Dozen Distinctive Destinations!

The two towns, nestled among towering sand dunes, are bordered by the winding Kalamazoo River on its way to Lake Michigan. Activities abound on the two waterways. Both towns maintain public beaches on Lake Michigan for swimmers and sunbathers. Saugatuck's Oval Beach has been rated by Condé Nast's Traveler Magazine as one of the 25 best shorelines in the world and one of America's 11 great Beachtowns. National Geographic Traveler Magazine agreed, rating it one of the top two freshwater beaches in America. More recently, the Chicago Tribune ranked it number one out of the Midwest's five best beaches and Life Magazine judged it Best Dune Town.

In addition to finding unique clothing and accessories for your self and for gifts, and seeing a kaleidoscopic of artwork in the galleries, we love to hike the dunes in Saugatuck Dunes State Park and Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area. We also enjoy touring the winery, farms and studios in next door harvest country. Kids enjoy sifting in the sand searching for stones & shells, including lucky stones. For more info, check out the Lucky Stone Tavern within Saugatuck Brewing Co.
