Guestbook comments from the manager

I just wanted to say thanks for the great trip. The cabin is just as described/pictured and the well stocked kitchen and bathrooms were a nice benefit. The swings were a favorite and the space and yard were perfect for my large family. My kids range from age 1 to 14 and everyone had a good time. Also, we really loved the fireplace.

Almost five stars - gas grill rusted out and then lost power

  • 4 of 5

We arrived and the grandkids started exploring!

Hiked down to the pond and we're greeted by the local horses and the cows roaming the forest lands that are right next door.

Got everyone fed and bedded down for the first night after showing the kids just how many stars they cannot see at home!

Next day we were out early for another hike around the forest lands, then down to Willow Springs Lake to check out the fishing. There really isn't any place for the kids to swim up here, but they enjoyed 'accidently' stepping off a rock every now and again... But, gee...no fish caught. Go figure...

Back home to put the Tri Tips on the grill we read was there. Alas, it was a very small grill, and VERY rusted out when we opened the top just to see if we might still make it work. Fortunately there's not one, but two ovens in the kitchen, so we used one of the roasting pans and experimented doing the meat there... Too a bit longer than on the grill, but still came out perfect!

Next day, we headed over to walk the Rim Trail that runs next to the road to Woods Canyon Lake. Took a bunch of family photos on the edge of the rim and then started down the trail to military sinkhole. Fairly steep, so my wife and I headed back up and let the kids and grandkids keep going while we say on the bench at the top of the trailhead and reminisced about all the times we'd been there when our kids were the same age as our grandkids now... Enjoying the cooling breeze blowing past us.

Got back just before lunch and started making some quesadillas when BAM, one of the loudest and longest thunder claps roared through following a lightning strike some 6-7 miles away. Few minutes later came the rain, as expected and then at 12:09, down came some power lines by Forest Lakes.

Plan B... Sandwiches!!

After lunch, we texted Tammy to see how long an outage usually takes. Half hour usually, depending on the why though. After an hour we checked back and she said they were estimating 6pm per APS. 6 approached and it changed to 7, then 7:15, then 7:30... Then 9!!

So, as the Haven isn't really very well equipped to handle a meal without electricity, we headed to Heber and found that Al & Dianes Red Onion Lounge is NOT the place to go when their parking lot is full. Over an hour to get food... 2 of 3 kids were asleep by time it arrived.

Power came back on at 9:30...

Not that the power outage is their fault, other than some candles and flashlights, it's all electric cooking

Wonderful relaxing time.

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was equipped with everything we needed for a wonderful time. We had 6 adults & 7 kids and something to do for all of us. Kids loved the outside tree house, swings & basketball hoop. Played games & had a wonderful family gathering. We took our Polaris RZR and there was a gate to get to the Forest Service area. Many trails to take you to the pond and Beautiful trees. Saw Elk, deer, and wild horses. One morning we looked out the dining room window and the horses were on the other side of the fence grazing. We had an outstanding time. Only problem was the Wifi was very slow but who needed our devices when so much else to do.

Peaceful Easter get away.

  • 5 of 5

We were really happy with our stay the first time and decided to do it again for the Easter holiday week. It was a wonderful stay. Our daughter, her husband, our son and his wife and our grandchildren came up to visit us on the weekend and they loved it too. So much space.

I got up early Easter Sunday and made baskets for the Grandchildren and hid colored eggs around the front yard for them to find. They just loved being out around mother nature. We even saw a herd of wild horses on the other side of the fence that came up to graze. I was even excited about that. Watching the wild life is just so peaceful and relaxing.

After everyone else went back to Phoenix on Sunday evening, Jerry and I stayed until Thursday. On Monday we were surprised by a snow storm. Loved it.

I even made two small snowmen on Tuesday morning. I watched the squirrels and little chip monks and birds all around enjoying the snow.

We plan to book another stay in the future @ Hancock Haven. What more can I say.

Anniversary Getaway at Hancock Haven

  • 5 of 5

To celebrate our special "50th" Wedding Anniversary getaway, we chose Hancock Haven

for it's spacious size, unique appearance, vast wooded surroundings, reasonable rates

and friendly terms.

The cabin is clean, well maintained and the pictures and description in the ad are "right on" accurate.

When first entering, I felt as if I had actually been there before.

Amenities exceeded what was listed and all the cupboards are labeled.

Customer service is outstanding, all my questions were answered promptly.

My daughter and son in law spent a day with us and stated:

"It's a nice peaceful place to stay when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

It's better than camping because pretty much any amenity you might need is provided and then some.

It also accommodates every visitor from young to old."

We would recommend this location to any friend or relative looking for such a getaway.

We visited the quaint little villages of Heber and Overgarrd, not too far up the road

where we located two markets, two hardware stores for items we needed and a few restaurants.

There are several lakes within driving distance for fishing, boating and the like,

normally open from May thru September.

In summary, we are very pleased and will be booking our next stay here soon!

Great way to get out of the Valley!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at this cabin before and love, love, love it. So pretty and secluded and the weather is heaven compared to the valley. The cabin is a little older and has some quirks (like the hot and cold water being switched upstairs) but it's very well maintained and has everything we need. We love the swings out front. And the fireplace! Occasionally a moth will sneak in, but our kids love to catch them, so it ends up adding to the fun. :) There is plenty of beds and space for large family reunions. The best part are the large windows surrounding the entire cabin, looking out onto the national forest. We'll definitely be visiting again. We learned the hard way that you have to schedule way in advance if you want to get a slot.
