Domes, geodesic and 3 treehouse domes are new shelters at Cabot Shores.
The domes are each 16 feet in diameter. Circular, they have a bay window with great views, a side vent and extensive skylight portals offering you a view of the stars by night and the occasional eagle flying overhead by day. Outside are fire pits and picnic tables.
The Luna Dome is a tree house built for two. It sits in the apple orchard and gives you a view of sky and bay.
Next to it the Apple Dome sits on a treehouse deck between apple trees with a nice view of Kelly's mountain and the bay. It has a double bed and a swing chair.
The Eagle dome has a great view of orchard, ocean and stars.
For nature lovers: The Atlantic dome sits on a low platform in the trees, has a double bed and a swing chair.
Spare mattresses for friends or children fit easily in Apple, Eagle and Atlantic Dome. The domes are only available in warmer months. For winter, think about our cozy Mongolian Yurts with heaters and/or wood stoves!
At Cabot Shores, your hosts are Dr. Paul and Barbara Weinberg, Cosmo the guide dog and friendly staff. Barbara is an accomplished acupuncturist, vegetarian chef and gardener. Dr. Paul is a former 'road warrior', teacher and psychologist, who considers his doctorate now to be in 'adventure travel'. Paul can be found jamming on the blues harmonica and trombone, hiking, yoloboarding or kayaking with Barbara and Cosmo.
Dr. Paul purchased this house in 2004
We've traveled the world and found Cape Breton to be a unique, unspoiled and sacred place. We bought and renovated a farmhouse at Breton Cove in 2000, then saw the opportunity at Indian Brook to build a special resort and retreat center where people can easily discover and create their own adventure.
The natural beauty of Cape Breton, and the warmth and hospitality among its three main cultures (Mi'kmaq, Acadian and Scottish) drew us to create Cabot Shores, where great stories and memories are guaranteed.
Cabot Shores is not just a bed to sleep in, it is a chance to create your own adventure all in one location. With so many different and unique accommodations, you can experience something completely new each time you come - from a Mongolian Yurt to achalet, from the cozy lodge to the tree house domes in our orchard! Rent a Kayak, canoe or yoloboard to explore the pond and Indian Brook, then visit our private beach and the ocean beyond by crossing on the Eagle Feather ferry. Have a picnic by the river or hike the waterfall trail. See moose cross the water while sitting in one of our cedar soaking tubs. Try meditation, Qi Gong or acupuncture. Ask us how we can help create the adventure you are looking for.
Cabot Shores is a 55-acre private Cape Breton Island sanctuary with breathtaking views, an ocean beach, a lakefront on Church Pond, a waterfall fed Indian Brook, and many modern conveniences - often powered by solar or wood.
Year-round, you can choose from a wealth of activities including outdoor sports, nature awareness expeditions, and native cultural experiences. Canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, bird and whale watching, massages and acupuncture, and many other activities are available in Cabot Shores. You can create your own program at your own rhythm, or sign up for one of our all-inclusive adventures and retreats.
Cabot Shores is also a local hot spot for evening entertainment. Join us in Whiff's Lodge for cabaret-dinners, ceilidhs, concerts and dances to celebrate and learn about Cape Breton's culture and heritage!
Easily accessible and less than an hour drive from Sydney's airport, Cabot Shores is the ideal year-round destination - inside or out.
Other Activities: concerts, art gallery, dinner theater
Golf: Cabot Shores is midway between two of the best rated golf courses in Canada, Highland Links in Ingonish and Bell Bay in Baddeck (see Golf digest)
