Hale Kainalu is a sweet getaway at the end of Lanikai with exclusive secluded beach used by only 5 houses within a gated drive. This beautiful cottage is literally right on the beach & overlooks the crystal clear, blue and green hued water. Wake up each morning to a glorious sunrise to start your day. The sound of the ocean fills the whole house which gets a gentle breeze most of the year. Newly remodeled, this cottage has a modern kitchen & bathrooms. It's bright interior is furnished beautifully and there is plenty of room to stretch out on the decks & beach. There is a full kitchen upstairs and another kitchenette in the studio that has an under-counter refrigerator, 2 burner hot plate and coffee pot. This is the perfect place for ocean sports, or just sitting back with a good book & a glass of wine. Don't be surprised if you see giant sea turtles swim up to say hello. You can let the rest of the world melt away in this little piece of heaven.
Lanikai is a highly sought after subdivision of Kailua. Famous for it's calm, tranquil water, Lanikai beach is great for playing in the ocean and not having to worry about waves or rough water. Right below the house is a perfect little white sand beach accessed only by the 5 homes on the property and by boat. Popular ocean activities are windsurfing, kite boarding, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling. Just a short drive away in Kailua there are many shops, boutiques, day spas, and art galleries, along with plenty of great restaurants.

SORRY NO WEDDINGS OR EVENTS.
We kayaked, SUPed and boogie boarded from the private beach, rode bikes around town, hiked the Pillbox, and bodysurfed at Bellows. Our family and friends enjoyed dining on the deck with the sounds of the surf below and a view of the Mokulua islands beyond. The home is nicely appointed and we found it to be perfect for our active family. Gina is a gem to work with. I highly recommend Hale Kainalu in Lanikai.
This has to be the most beautiful, peaceful spot on Oahu. This was my 3rd time staying in Kailua/Lanikai, but my first time staying at this property. Six of us just returned from a 10-day stay at this breezy cottage with the amazing view of the Mokulua Islands. I cannot imagine a better view anywhere on the island and the gated property felt very private. Hale Kainalu is just as it appears in the photos, if not better. I love the plantation style of this house. It is cozy, clean, bright and airy. There is a constant ocean breeze in all of the rooms and I loved the soothing sound of the waves at night - they are literally in your backyard! On the days when we decided to venture out to other parts of the island, which usually involved some traffic, it was so nice to come back to such a serene, relaxing spot. The small, private beach is shared with only a few other houses and we had it all to ourselves at times. The town of Kailua has everything that you could ever need and it's only a short drive away. Gina was fantastic! She was always only a text away and she ensured that we had everything that we needed. Thank you Gina, Brad, and of course, Daisy :).
There isn't a better view out there! The water and strand of private beach is simply perfection. The house had everything we needed and the lava rock shower was a surprise treat! Gina was super helpful and only a text/call away. Can't wait to go back!
It is hard to imagine a lovelier house or one better situated. Hale Kainalu is perched right above the beach, but because the little stretch of sand is accessible only to a few houses in a secluded family compound behind a gate, it is completely private and safe. The expansive views of the clear, turquoise sea and the little Mokulua islands are panoramic and amazing. The water is calm enough to swim in, unlike so many places in Hawaii. The location is absolutely extraordinary, unlike any other you will find.
The house has a unique layout: the downstairs bedroom (really like a separate guest cottage with small kitchen, dining nook, and shower bathroom) is just feet above the beach. You feel as if you are hanging over the surf, and the sound of gentle waves is ever-present—we’ve never sleep better. To reach the main part of the house (living room, dining area, kitchen, two smaller bedrooms, and full bath), you go outside, across the road, and up the outdoor stone stairs. It’s not like crossing a real street, just the little drive that winds through the compound, closed to traffic. The arrangement adds an extra layer of privacy by completely separating upstairs and downstairs.
Charming, comfortable, quirky, authentic—it is a house with true character and a vintage, “old Hawaii” feel, but it has been updated stylishly and sensitively so everything functions perfectly. The kitchen is so thoughtfully outfitted, it has things I didn’t even know I would need during our stay. There is both indoor and outdoor dining—the latter either on a large deck off the living room with a grill, or on an adorable stone terrace above the beach below the downstairs bedroom.
The area of Lanikai and Kailua is only about a half hour from Honolulu, and the drive is a beautiful one through lush hills. Once ensconced in this peaceful enclave, you feel a million miles from the downtown crowds, but you are close enough that it is an easy trip for sights or dinners. If you look at the satellite image of the neighborhood, you will notice that Bellows Air Force base is just around the coast, but there is no access and no noise, so it is a non-issue.
Gina was very helpful and patient with all my questions while we were deciding where to stay, and I am thrilled that we decided on this house. It was the antidote to the modern uniformity that pervades much of coastal Hawaii, and I recommend it without reservation. Don’t change a thing—we want it to be just the same when we return!
Our family of 5 had such a wonderful time here. We have been on many family vacations but this one has definitely topped the list. We definitely would have stayed longer if our kids didn't have to go back to school. Where to begin. Our host Gina was so wonderful. She was only a text/phone call away for any questions you may have. The house is located in the best part of Lanikai. Very quiet, private, and serene setting at the end of the street. Everyone enjoyed having the windows open and listening to the ocean at night. The decor fit the island/cottage theme perfectly. Even driving to any of our excursions seemed like a sightseeing tour. With all of the lush mountains and bright blue ocean below. There are many restaurants and shops just a few minutes away as well. It truly was a dream vacation. We hope to be back someday.
Wow. This place really is paradise. Our family of 6 stayed for 9 days starting the day after Christmas. My son and his wife stayed in the studio on the ground floor. We have two teenage sons who shared the room with twin beds. One huge benefit to staying here, rather than other places near Kailua, is the private road. This private road means private beach. The Lanikai beach has been rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and it's true. Clean soft sand and clear water. The owners have a crew on site to help with anything day or night. The customer service was fantastic.
We are all facile with bikes and mostly used this mode of transportation. I highly recommend renting bikes for the week. We used a company that delivered the beach cruisers to the home, but some of us wanted bikes with gears and baskets for carrying groceries, so we rented from The Bike Shop.
Be forewarned the road that connects the town of Kailua to the gated property is extremely crowded in the afternoons. The traffic is bumper to bumper and can take an hour to move 2 miles. For early morning events like surfing at the North Shore or a tour of Pearl Harbor, it was no problem. Trying to exit the property in the afternoons was rough. We stopped using the car during busy times and used the bikes. The bikes are more fun anyway.
I would rent this place again in a heart beat. We made some great memories!
