About Clay Willis

In 1978, I was on my way to Alaska to work on the pipelines and happened to stop in Gardiner to explore the famous Yellowstone National Park. I was so taken by the beauty of Montana that I have never left. Instead of Alaska, I was hired by the National Park Service. I retired in 1984 and started working on turning my property into a place where friends and family could also come to experience the wonders of Yellowstone Park. And that includes you!

Clay Willis purchased this castle in 1980

Why Clay Willis chose Yellowstone

Park Place used to be a hotel for hunters in Gardiner called 'The Cottage Inn'. I bought it in 1980 because I saw the potential of turning the place into something that incorporated the Pioneer spirit of the West with the all the comforts of a city.

I found a diamond in the rough and have worked since then to polish it into a unique home.

What makes this castle unique

Park Place sits uniquely just downstream from the convergence of the Gardiner and the Yellowstone Rivers. It sits beneath Eletric Peak, surrounded by majestic mountains ' where the deer and the antelope play'. Big Sky Montana where the skies are not cloudy all day.

When you come you will understand why I never left, and just like me will have an overdose of Yellowstone Park's Grandeur and be hooked for life.

Cozy space to rest after long days in Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

This cozy place was the perfect place to rest after a long day exploring Yellowstone. The home was clean and well-appointed with kitchen amenities and furniture. It was nice to spread out and have space to read, have a snack or watch TV. Our 10-year old loved the sleeping loft. The beds were comfy, and it was nice to wind down by watching one of the many movies provided on DVD. We also liked being able to make our own breakfast in the kitchen, and many restaurants are a short walk away. Location is a short drive to the north gate of Yellowstone, with Mammoth Hot Springs a short drive beyond. Recommended!

I would stay here again!

  • 4 of 5

We loved staying here during our trip to Yellowstone. It was very clean and comfortable. The owner was friendly and personable. The only drawback is the spiral staircase. It is a little difficult going up and down with bags/luggage and I was afraid I would fall down them during the night traveling to the bathroom. Despite that, I would love to stay here again the next time I visit Yellowstone, hopefully next year!

Perfect place for a Yellowstone Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Billy and Clay, thank you so much for allowing us to stay your wonderful home. It had every comfort we could possibly have needed for our stay. It was a real treat for this couple from Orlando, FL to have everything in walking distance. The Gardiner Market is about a half mile walk. We went to the Raven's Grill for an awesome culinary surprise (tell Crystal we said hi) and to the Iron Horse Saloon. Do not let the outside appearance of the Iron Horse intimidate you .. the food and staff inside are fantastic. And to be, literally, walking distance to the Roosevelt Arch and the North Entrance. Your home an Gardiner provided an experience beyond our wildest expectations. We are looking forward to staying with you again!
