PARK PLACE is a tranquil spot for those looking for 'a home away from home' while in Yellowstone Park. We offer a comfortable place with excellent location right on the Yellowstone River bank. Here you can rest after your daily adventures in our National Park and forests.

Our home has the feel of a cabin in the mountains but with all the comforts of the city. We are located within walking distance from downtown Gardiner. The main bedroom is located upstairs with a balcony that opens to beautiful views of the mountains and right on the Yellowstone River. You will love the sound of the river or relaxing here after a day of hiking or exploring the Yellowstone wonders.

Those who love fly fishing will have a chance to do it in our Blue-Ribbon Trout fishing access to Yellowstone River. We have been told some of the best fishing spots are directly bellow our place. We can also arrange guided fishing tours with one of the best anglers in town.

Just outside your front door you might encounter visitors such as Elk, Deer, Bison or even spot a Bear swimming in the Yellowstone River. Bald Eagles and Ospreys can be seen also. We are sure you will love staying with us as much as we enjoy living here.

About Clay Willis

In 1978, I was on my way to Alaska to work on the pipelines and happened to stop in Gardiner to explore the famous Yellowstone National Park. I was so taken by the beauty of Montana that I have never left. Instead of Alaska, I was hired by the National Park Service. I retired in 1984 and started working on turning my property into a place where friends and family could also come to experience the wonders of Yellowstone Park. And that includes you!

Clay Willis purchased this castle in 1980

Why Clay Willis chose Yellowstone

Park Place used to be a hotel for hunters in Gardiner called 'The Cottage Inn'. I bought it in 1980 because I saw the potential of turning the place into something that incorporated the Pioneer spirit of the West with the all the comforts of a city.

I found a diamond in the rough and have worked since then to polish it into a unique home.

What makes this castle unique

Park Place sits uniquely just downstream from the convergence of the Gardiner and the Yellowstone Rivers. It sits beneath Eletric Peak, surrounded by majestic mountains ' where the deer and the antelope play'. Big Sky Montana where the skies are not cloudy all day.

When you come you will understand why I never left, and just like me will have an overdose of Yellowstone Park's Grandeur and be hooked for life.

Great Location for Visiting Yellowstone

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed being so close to Yellowstone National Park! It was a bit surprising to see that Park Place was not a free standing cabin, but it was still very quiet and private. Turns out it was part of a motel in the early 1900s and there's a picture of it in the bedroom. There were only 2 of us staying, so having all the beds in the upstairs area was not a problem. The double bed was folded up to allow an open area near the sliding door to the patio. There is a nice view of the river from the patio. The built in bench in the twin bed nook, around a small wall from the main bed, made a nice place for our suitcase. The wildlife decor throughout the home is well suited to the area. We saw an elk just across the street! The kitchen has most of the basic necessities for meal prep. An email to manager, Clay, our first morning resulted in the owner bringing a measuring cup to us in time to prepare dinner. We enjoyed our visit and discussion of changes in the area with owner, Bill. It was fun to learn that the cabin was an inspiration for the novel "Redeeming Leah" by Rita Willis. We felt comfortable leaving Bill and Clay with some suggestions for improvements for guest comfort and communication. Staying at Park Place was a nice start to our Montana Vacation.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

This property is literally a street over from the entrance to the park! Shops and restaurants also within walking distance. The property was clean and had everything we needed in the kitchen, bathroom, etc. The property owner was extremely responsive to our requests for information, etc.

Cozy cabin overlooking the river

  • 3 of 5

This was a great little cabin for entry into the nearby North entrance to Yellowstone. The kitchen was well equipped, but we felt a dishwasher would have added to our comfort. There was no washing machine either, but a laundry is over the road. Bed comfortable but the only sofa was very uncomfortable.

Peaceful riverside respite

  • 5 of 5

This attached, riverside cabin is a tidy, comfortable, quiet and restful place. Though not huge, the space is well-designed and stocked with items to make cooking and exploring Yellowstone/the area while away from home the best it can be. I have stayed for 4-6 days 2 years in a row while traveling with my niece & nephew, both teens, and we all have loved this cabin. The owner is responsive if concerns come up, very friendly, but respectful of privacy. One can walk into the nearby small town to restaurants and the laundromat is just down the road. The sleeping area is one large room with a niche; this worked well for us. There is a deck off the second floor, which was great for having dinner al fresco. We will surely stay there again!

Clean but not on river

  • 2 of 5

this is not on the river. You can see a small section but it over the neighbors yard. There is a house behind on the river. The grill ran out of propane while we had steaks on the grill. Main bed very uncomfortable. Couch was also not comfortable. The place was clean, but pictures were deceptive of the river. street construction was bad but no fault of the owner.

Great location and comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

We had a great 4 night stay. The location in Gardiner provides easy access to Yellowstone and Gardiner itself has good restaurants, a great little grocery store and other outdoor activities (whitewater rafting) in close proximity. This home fit our family of four well and my son loved the bed in the "nook" as well as the spiral staircase. The kitchen is well stocked which was great as we make most of our meals on vacation as well as pack lunch daily for trips to Yellowstone. Our first night an elk walked right up to the house and the kids were excited to see our visitor! We would totally stay here again if we return to the area!
