Picture yourself sitting in the private, fenced, tree-shaded courtyard of a charming and historic miner’s home located just a 4-minute walk from Main Street.

What could be more relaxing?

The Toland Adobe has 2 cozy adjoining bedrooms (queen beds) furnished for comfort with quality linens, and a bath with a new custom walk-in shower and a new vanity, etc.. The living room contains a futon sleeper (new mattress in 2015) for additional sleeping accommodations. The house sleeps a maximum of 6.

Ready to take a break from sight-seeing? The house boasts a flat-screen TV, basic cable, and a DVD/VHS player. Plus, you’ll find a CD player and an iPod docking station.

Want to stream video, listen to Pandora, or play on-line games? With our unlimited wifi, you are free to use the internet just as you would at home. There's a Roku box so you can listen to Pandora or use your Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon accounts.

The original adobe structure has been modified and upgraded through the years. Its comfortable lounge areas and vaulted bead board ceilings will encourage you to kick back and relax. Over 200 DVDs and gobs of books line the living room shelves. Make yourself at home.

Because we want you to be comfortable year-round, the house has both a mini-split heating/cooling system and a separate window a/c unit in the front bedroom. We also have rolling evaporative cooling units, just in case. But we’re talking Bisbee, not Phoenix. Bisbee has the best weather in Arizona.

If you enjoy cooking, you’ll love having everything you need to prepare great meals: the kitchen is well-equipped with quality pots and pans, sharp knives and numerous small appliances. We love to cook! You’ll love the outdoor eating area with its gas BBQ, too.

A reverse osmosis system for fresh drinking water was installed in March 2016.

Worried about running out of clean clothes? We provide an indoor laundry room with full-sized washer/dryer. The laundry room is adjoined to the bathroom.

Looking for something unique? The Toland Adobe is on the National Register of Historic Places and was once owned by one of Teddy Roosevelt’s Roughriders, Jesse Toland!

The Toland Adobe is reached via just a few wide/deep steps (no stairway) that ascend into a secluded garden courtyard, from which there is a partial view of the mountains. The yard is private (not shared) and is completely fenced -- perfect for those who like to spend time outside in a romantic setting and also handy for those with children and dogs. Enjoy the security of a locked gate and your own front door code.

Imagine the freedom you’ll feel sitting on the patio, reading a novel while the children and dogs play nearby. The owners have 8 grandchildren and are dog lovers who want to ensure kids and dogs are comfortable and safe. That can be hard to find in Bisbee, but with its garden courtyard outside, and hardwood and tile floors inside, the Toland Adobe is both kid- and dog-friendly.

We make things simple for moms by providing both a portable playpen/crib and a high-chair.

You’ll love how convenient the location is to downtown, yet how nice it is to escape to a peaceful home once you’re ready to relax.

The Toland Adobe has on-street parking, with even more parking in the free city lot nearby.

We know you want lodging reservations to be simple and easy. That’s why we have automated our reservation process to be entirely online. But, we can accommodate snail mail and personal checks (usually), too.

Whether you’re renting for a weekend or for the season, you’ll want to find the best possible place. And you’ve found it: a great location, a sweet house, and a private yard.

What more compelling reason do you need to choose The Toland Adobe?

About Becky McIntyre

We are Bryan and Becky McIntyre. We are a middle-aged couple who found Bisbee in February 2012 while escaping record-setting snow in our small northern California town. Bryan is a retired aerospace employee, and I work from home part-time. Our children are grown, and we have 8 grandchildren (ages almost 2 to 14).

Becky McIntyre purchased this house in 2012

Why Becky McIntyre chose Arizona

We heard about Bisbee from J.A. Jance’s novels and decided we had to see what high desert winters were all about. T-shirts and shorts in February! Within two weeks of our arrival, we had decided to buy a house there. Seriously. And no, it wasn’t something we set out to do. But we loved the town, and after two weeks of talking ourselves out of it, we contacted a realtor. The moment we walked through (the old) gate into the private patio, we knew The Toland Adobe was the house for us. A lot of elbow grease, improvements, and shopping later, we opened as a vacation rental in June 2012. We’ve been back many times to make more improvements and to hang out on that wonderful patio. Bryan is quite the handyman and built the fence out front and did all sorts of other jobs. We bring our three large dogs with us. We hope you enjoy your stay.

What makes this house unique

We chose this house because it had all of the features we wanted: it is only a few minutes from downtown, it has a fenced yard, and it has only a few stairs. It's amazingly private for a home that's minutes from downtown. There is no long hike back up the hills after dinner out, or dozens of stairs to climb with luggage or groceries. We spend as much time as possible at our Bisbee home, enjoying the lovely weather and walking the town with our dogs.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I've been to Bisbee numerous times and the Toland Adobe is by far the best place I've stayed. The house is beautiful, and it's hidden from the street with a great patio/yard that was perfect for my dogs. Unlike many Bisbee houses, there were no steps to reach this one, which is fantastic if you're carrying groceries or aren't capable of stair climbing.

Everything inside the house was in great condition (I also loved the movie collection for guests!) and it was clean and quiet. It was located in Old Bisbee, just a couple minutes walk down to Main Street.

Becky (the owner) was a great landlord and responds to emails promptly. I would highly recommend the Toland Adobe to anyone looking for a Bisbee rental, and I hope to stay there again!

Wonderful Little House and Yard

  • 5 of 5

This lovely little house is the absolute best rental we have found in Bisbee. This house is spacious, spotlessly clean, accepts pets, is stocked with movies and books and is connected to speedy Wi-Fi. There are many cozy blankets, comfortable furniture inside and out, and a pretty layout created with vacationers and relaxation in mind. In addition to thick new towels and colorful sheets, there are numerous potholders, kitchen towels and washrags. (If you have rented much at all, you know how rare this is.) The kitchen deserves its own separate review. Every kitchen gadget and appliance you could possibly need has been provided. We have rented places before and made unhappy discoveries such as no coffee pot, no knives, one dented pan. Not so the Toland Adobe! There is a full set of cookware plus baking pans, a bread maker, potato peeler, and chef's knives. The yard is also spacious. Our dogs haven't found a way out in spite of searching. They are perfectly happy and safe alone in the yard and we don't have to watch them constantly. The yard is complete with pine trees and a Tombstone Rose bush, a large table with chairs enclosed behind a high fence. Complete privacy. This is a perfect little get away house. There are no stairs, which I really appreciate, and a new shower has been added. The water pressure is very high and there is plenty of hot water.

Perfect quiet location, comfortable and clean home. It's nice to have a private yard for those traveling with a dog like I did, and a cute front porch to relax on with your morning coffee. Would definitely stay here again and recommended to others!

Wonderful Stay in Bisbee

  • 5 of 5

Cute, clean, well provisioned, conveniently located. Parked our car and walked everywhere. Close to 20,000 steps and 13 flights a day. It was so nice to return to our little nest and dinner on the grill. Well stocked with books and movies if you want to stay in at night.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you had a wonderful stay in Bisbee. I'll bet after walking all over and climbing stairs to see various parts of the town (off Main, that is), you were glad to return to our house, which is at the bottom level of the mountain and which only has a few steps into the yard and house! Thanks for staying with us.

Charming house in a charming town with an incredible host

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from a month stay at this charming little house in Bisbee. The location was perfect, within walking distance of everything in Old Bisbee. The house was cozy and the private patio was a special treat. The kitchen was, hands down, the most well appointed kitchen in any vacation rental I've stayed in. Despite the very close proximity of other houses, it was also incredibly quiet at night. This was a great place to stay in a great little town. My dog and I both loved our month here. Becky was a wonderful host, sending me info on events in Bisbee and always available for questions. I definitely would (and likely will) stay here again.

Owner's Response: I'm so pleased you and your dog had a great stay in Bisbee, Karen. We bring our 3 large dogs here and love walking around this dog-friendly town. We built the fence high to allow the boys to hang out on the patio with us without the need to keep them on leashes. Thanks again for staying at the Toland Adobe.

A wonderful month at the Toland Adobe

  • 5 of 5

We were here for the month of January - some days were cold and we even had a bit of snow, but other days were sunny and in the 70's. The location is perfect: as the listing says, there are a couple of steps to get into the house, but none of the famous "stairs," and you can park right across the street. The house is small but very well furnished - the kitchen is the best equipped I have ever found in a rental. For instance, I'm used to bringing my own measuring cups and a sharp knife, e.g., but here there were 2 sets of dry cups and 3 liquid measures and a whole knife block of usable knives plus a sharpener! Blender, mixer, crockpot (a great idea for going out hiking all day and having supper ready when we returned), plenty of pans and skillets; also a selection of plastic containers. Truly, everything we could have asked for.

On rainy, cold days we could curl up and use the Roku for streaming movies or select from among the hundreds of books and DVD's. We didn't use the yard as much as we would have at a different time of year. It's quite shady which I'm sure is perfect for summer!

So many little "extras" contributed to our comfort - like the series of lights from the gate to the door of the house that are on motion sensors, so they lit the way through the yard if we came in after dark! We filled the bird feeders and enjoyed watching the variety of feathered friends that appeared: a cardinal, juncos, sparrows, finches, warblers, doves, woodpeckers and hummingbirds all visited during our month. And we were only about 20 minutes from Whitewater Draw where the sandhill cranes settle in for the winter - there's nothing quite like seeing - and hearing - literally thousands of cranes.

We appreciated the convenience of the washer and drier; also being walking distance from almost anywhere in town.

Becky was very easy to work with - she responded promptly to every question; emailed or texted a few times while we were there just to make sure everything was okay or to tell me about a local event coming up. And our damage deposit was refunded immediately.

The only "buts" I can think of would be the lack of mail delivery and the bedroom that opens only into the bathroom or the other bedroom (see room layout in photos). Neither of those was a problem for us, but could potentially be for others. I definitely recommend the Toland Adobe house for a great visit to Cochise County.

Owner's Response: Thank you for that spectacular review, Barb! I'm so glad you enjoyed Bisbee and that you found the house comfortable and enjoyable. I love being there myself. To me, Bisbee is a magical place to wander. You are correct, there is no street mail delivery in Old Bisbee; all locals get their mail at the post office (about a 4 minute walk away). Monthly visitors can get their mail delivered there via General Delivery (or open their own post office box for a month or two or three). Thanks again for being such a fabulous guest and for your lovely review.

Perfect Location and Ambience

  • 5 of 5

Our family roots go back to Early Bisbee, and for the last two years we've spent the week after Christmas enjoying the tranquility, inspiration, and welcoming ambience.

This year we chose Toland Adobe to share with our son and daughter in law. It was their first visit, so being just a block from Main St and Brewery Gulch was perfect! The two bedrooms were small, but cozy with plenty of room for unpacking clothes. (HATE living out of a suitcase!). The beds were very comfortable, with lots of linens and extra pillows and "cozies." I have sciatica, and without a good night's sleep I'm the House Grump. No worries. I slept like a Bisbee Rock all week.

We like cooking at least part of our meals, and the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and some basic staples. Lasagna or enchiladas went in the oven, and we BBQ'd some ribs with Bisbee Sauce out on the patio. Our next trip will be Spring or Fall, and we'll have a chance to enjoy the patio even more.

Did I mention the BOOKS and DVDs? Two bookshelves full--- good reads, and some excellent reference books on area history and wildlife (birds!). We are bird lovers and had daily visits from a nice variety. (Bring birdseed.) The front patio/yard is very private— chairs, table, and umbrella invite you to just sit on the porch and

I don't know the owners, Becky and Bryan, but feel like I do. We surely share a love of good books, history, and cozy nooks and crannies.

The only thing to be aware of that might not suit everyone is the bathroom--- it's plenty large with a nice shower, but if it's in use, the way to one of the bedrooms is through the other. (The other way is through the bath) This was no problem for us, just something to consider. We appreciated the washer/drye/dishwasher too. Nice to have everything neat, clean, and working when you're away from home. Two couples was the perfect number of guests. I think I would find 6 people a bit tight for the weeek (the LR couch makes into a futon bed), but all depends on who the extras are.

We expect to be back to Bisbee for many years. I'm putting together some family history, and being just a block from the library and museum is wonderful. Bisbee Coffee Roasters (and quiche) is right there too. Santiago's and The Table, and many others. Just a short walk. We found parkingvto be easy (though there are no parking spot guarantees in Bisbee)! If we come with 2-4 people, the Toland Adobe is where we want to stay.

Owner's Response: Kim and Rob, I feel like I know you, we chatted so much. I'm so glad you enjoyed the house and the city of Bisbee. Our guests often remark on the two bookcases of books, hundreds of DVDs, and the well-stocked kitchen for those who like to cook. I hope we are able to host you again later this "Happy New Year. "

The house doesn't show correctly on Google maps: Google points to the orange house in front of ours. Our house is off the street, behind the orange house.

There is always something to see or do in Bisbee. Do you like to mingle with the locals and then head back to your own place and relax, away from it all? The Toland Adobe is a great place for that -- a few minutes on foot from most of the local events yet in a quiet residential area.

Here are the annual events:

Friends of the Copper Queen Library Chocolate Tasting, Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering, Bisbee Fiber Arts Festival, Annual Copper City Classic Vintage Base Ball Tournament, Cinco de Mayo Festival, Bisbee Pride Parade, 4th of July Parade and Coaster Races, Pirates of the High Desert, Brewery Gulch Daze, Ironman Ice Competition, Annual Cars & Bikes Boys and Girls Club Fundraiser, Bisbee Bloomers Garden Tour, Bisbee Blues Festival, Bisbee 1000 Stair Climb, Rotary Wine Tasting and Taste of Bisbee, Copper Queen Halloween, Annual Bisbee Historic Home Tour, and Small Town Holiday and Festival of Lights
