Picture yourself sitting in the private, fenced, tree-shaded courtyard of a charming and historic miner’s home located just a 4-minute walk from Main Street.

What could be more relaxing?

The Toland Adobe has 2 cozy adjoining bedrooms (queen beds) furnished for comfort with quality linens, and a bath with a new custom walk-in shower and a new vanity, etc.. The living room contains a futon sleeper (new mattress in 2015) for additional sleeping accommodations. The house sleeps a maximum of 6.

Ready to take a break from sight-seeing? The house boasts a flat-screen TV, basic cable, and a DVD/VHS player. Plus, you’ll find a CD player and an iPod docking station.

Want to stream video, listen to Pandora, or play on-line games? With our unlimited wifi, you are free to use the internet just as you would at home. There's a Roku box so you can listen to Pandora or use your Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon accounts.

The original adobe structure has been modified and upgraded through the years. Its comfortable lounge areas and vaulted bead board ceilings will encourage you to kick back and relax. Over 200 DVDs and gobs of books line the living room shelves. Make yourself at home.

Because we want you to be comfortable year-round, the house has both a mini-split heating/cooling system and a separate window a/c unit in the front bedroom. We also have rolling evaporative cooling units, just in case. But we’re talking Bisbee, not Phoenix. Bisbee has the best weather in Arizona.

If you enjoy cooking, you’ll love having everything you need to prepare great meals: the kitchen is well-equipped with quality pots and pans, sharp knives and numerous small appliances. We love to cook! You’ll love the outdoor eating area with its gas BBQ, too.

A reverse osmosis system for fresh drinking water was installed in March 2016.

Worried about running out of clean clothes? We provide an indoor laundry room with full-sized washer/dryer. The laundry room is adjoined to the bathroom.

Looking for something unique? The Toland Adobe is on the National Register of Historic Places and was once owned by one of Teddy Roosevelt’s Roughriders, Jesse Toland!

The Toland Adobe is reached via just a few wide/deep steps (no stairway) that ascend into a secluded garden courtyard, from which there is a partial view of the mountains. The yard is private (not shared) and is completely fenced -- perfect for those who like to spend time outside in a romantic setting and also handy for those with children and dogs. Enjoy the security of a locked gate and your own front door code.

Imagine the freedom you’ll feel sitting on the patio, reading a novel while the children and dogs play nearby. The owners have 8 grandchildren and are dog lovers who want to ensure kids and dogs are comfortable and safe. That can be hard to find in Bisbee, but with its garden courtyard outside, and hardwood and tile floors inside, the Toland Adobe is both kid- and dog-friendly.

We make things simple for moms by providing both a portable playpen/crib and a high-chair.

You’ll love how convenient the location is to downtown, yet how nice it is to escape to a peaceful home once you’re ready to relax.

The Toland Adobe has on-street parking, with even more parking in the free city lot nearby.

We know you want lodging reservations to be simple and easy. That’s why we have automated our reservation process to be entirely online. But, we can accommodate snail mail and personal checks (usually), too.

Whether you’re renting for a weekend or for the season, you’ll want to find the best possible place. And you’ve found it: a great location, a sweet house, and a private yard.

What more compelling reason do you need to choose The Toland Adobe?

About Becky McIntyre

We are Bryan and Becky McIntyre. We are a middle-aged couple who found Bisbee in February 2012 while escaping record-setting snow in our small northern California town. Bryan is a retired aerospace employee, and I work from home part-time. Our children are grown, and we have 8 grandchildren (ages almost 2 to 14).

Becky McIntyre purchased this house in 2012

Why Becky McIntyre chose Arizona

We heard about Bisbee from J.A. Jance’s novels and decided we had to see what high desert winters were all about. T-shirts and shorts in February! Within two weeks of our arrival, we had decided to buy a house there. Seriously. And no, it wasn’t something we set out to do. But we loved the town, and after two weeks of talking ourselves out of it, we contacted a realtor. The moment we walked through (the old) gate into the private patio, we knew The Toland Adobe was the house for us. A lot of elbow grease, improvements, and shopping later, we opened as a vacation rental in June 2012. We’ve been back many times to make more improvements and to hang out on that wonderful patio. Bryan is quite the handyman and built the fence out front and did all sorts of other jobs. We bring our three large dogs with us. We hope you enjoy your stay.

What makes this house unique

We chose this house because it had all of the features we wanted: it is only a few minutes from downtown, it has a fenced yard, and it has only a few stairs. It's amazingly private for a home that's minutes from downtown. There is no long hike back up the hills after dinner out, or dozens of stairs to climb with luggage or groceries. We spend as much time as possible at our Bisbee home, enjoying the lovely weather and walking the town with our dogs.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I've been to Bisbee numerous times and the Toland Adobe is by far the best place I've stayed. The house is beautiful, and it's hidden from the street with a great patio/yard that was perfect for my dogs. Unlike many Bisbee houses, there were no steps to reach this one, which is fantastic if you're carrying groceries or aren't capable of stair climbing.

Everything inside the house was in great condition (I also loved the movie collection for guests!) and it was clean and quiet. It was located in Old Bisbee, just a couple minutes walk down to Main Street.

Becky (the owner) was a great landlord and responds to emails promptly. I would highly recommend the Toland Adobe to anyone looking for a Bisbee rental, and I hope to stay there again!

Perfect Location and Ambience

  • 5 of 5

Our family roots go back to Early Bisbee, and for the last two years we've spent the week after Christmas enjoying the tranquility, inspiration, and welcoming ambience.

This year we chose Toland Adobe to share with our son and daughter in law. It was their first visit, so being just a block from Main St and Brewery Gulch was perfect! The two bedrooms were small, but cozy with plenty of room for unpacking clothes. (HATE living out of a suitcase!). The beds were very comfortable, with lots of linens and extra pillows and "cozies." I have sciatica, and without a good night's sleep I'm the House Grump. No worries. I slept like a Bisbee Rock all week.

We like cooking at least part of our meals, and the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and some basic staples. Lasagna or enchiladas went in the oven, and we BBQ'd some ribs with Bisbee Sauce out on the patio. Our next trip will be Spring or Fall, and we'll have a chance to enjoy the patio even more.

Did I mention the BOOKS and DVDs? Two bookshelves full--- good reads, and some excellent reference books on area history and wildlife (birds!). We are bird lovers and had daily visits from a nice variety. (Bring birdseed.) The front patio/yard is very private— chairs, table, and umbrella invite you to just sit on the porch and

I don't know the owners, Becky and Bryan, but feel like I do. We surely share a love of good books, history, and cozy nooks and crannies.

The only thing to be aware of that might not suit everyone is the bathroom--- it's plenty large with a nice shower, but if it's in use, the way to one of the bedrooms is through the other. (The other way is through the bath) This was no problem for us, just something to consider. We appreciated the washer/drye/dishwasher too. Nice to have everything neat, clean, and working when you're away from home. Two couples was the perfect number of guests. I think I would find 6 people a bit tight for the weeek (the LR couch makes into a futon bed), but all depends on who the extras are.

We expect to be back to Bisbee for many years. I'm putting together some family history, and being just a block from the library and museum is wonderful. Bisbee Coffee Roasters (and quiche) is right there too. Santiago's and The Table, and many others. Just a short walk. We found parkingvto be easy (though there are no parking spot guarantees in Bisbee)! If we come with 2-4 people, the Toland Adobe is where we want to stay.

Owner's Response: Kim and Rob, I feel like I know you, we chatted so much. I'm so glad you enjoyed the house and the city of Bisbee. Our guests often remark on the two bookcases of books, hundreds of DVDs, and the well-stocked kitchen for those who like to cook. I hope we are able to host you again later this "Happy New Year. "

Charming home with easy access to all of historic Bisbee

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth trip to Bisbee and second stay in the Toland Adobe. It will not be our last. First of all, the house is conveniently located in historic Bisbee, walking distance to EVERYTHING. If you've been to Bisbee, you know that there are a few "quirks" that come with the town - LOTS of stairs and limited space. The Toland Adobe has managed to circumvent those two issues while still giving you a taste of authentic Bisbee. There are no stairs, which makes it a perfect place to stay if stairs aren't your thing or you are carting around a stroller everywhere, like we were. The house has a spacious, gated courtyard with a grill and PLENTY of seating. The interior of the house is comfortable, clean, quirky and filled with everything you could need for a weekend/week/month long getaway-- a nice open kitchen, laundry area, beautiful bathroom, two bedrooms with COMFY beds, and Netflix (need I say more)? It is both baby and pet friendly- stocked with all kinds of pet supplies, a high chair, and a Pack N Play. Becky is SO wonderful to work with. She is incredibly friendly and was really flexible when we needed an earlier/late check-in and needed to bring our dog at the last minute. Our trip was four weeks ago, and I have spent the last week trying to figure out how soon we can get back.

Clean, Comfortable and Unique

  • 5 of 5

We stay at several VRB0's each year and the Toland Adobe was the cleanest we have yet to experience. Becky, the owner is unbelievably accommodating and readily available for answering any questions. The Toland is a perfect spot to explore and enjoy the Bisbee experience. I'm not sure if we or our dogs enjoyed our stay more. We've already reserved the same week for next year....... need we say more????

What a lovely and charming place, all of the eminities of home plus some. I can't express how beautiful it is to sit in the courtyard with my hot cup of coffee early in the morning watching the day break and listening to the birds awaken and this historic town come alive. I just wish I had more time. I will definetly come back!

Owner's Response: I was so very pleased to receive your review, Madeline. I'm glad you enjoyed the home and the yard, in particular. When we walked into that secluded courtyard almost 5 years ago on our first trip to Bisbee, we both said, "This is the one." Thanks for being such a wonderful guest.

Bisbee's Toland Adobe is clean, comfortable, and close-in

  • 5 of 5

We were happy with our three-night stay in this two-bedroom home. Its location was great for easy walks around the center of Old Bisbee, as it is only a few minutes from the Copper Queen Hotel. The house was clean and comfortable, a nice blend of old and new; the original portion (which I believe houses the two bedrooms) dates from 1888, while the bathroom, kitchen, and some other portions are modernized. We enjoyed watching the TV in the cozy living room and sitting on the shady back porch. The kitchen was very clean and well-equipped. There is a washer and dryer, and the new shower was great. It would be an easy house to entertain a group for dinner either indoors or out. The enclosed courtyard was very shady for most of the day, and there was a peekaboo view of one of Bisbee's beautiful mountains. The living room was shady as well, while one of the bedrooms had great light all day. The courtyard kept our pets safe and secure. Parking was not a problem at any time; there were many options near the home. We walked to shops and restaurants on Main Street and enjoyed several meals in the nearby Brewery Gulch and Naco Avenue, incuding the Stock Exchange and Thuy's. Becky, the homeowner, was an attentive host via email both before and during our stay. We would recommend Toland Adobe to anyone interested in a very centrally located, relaxing, comfortable place to stay in Old Bisbee, with pets or without.

Bisbee 1000 Race Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We have been fortunate enough to rent this house for several years during the Bisbee 1000 race weekend. The house is always clean and comfortable, and the owners are a pleasure to work with. Our favorite part of the weekend is relaxing on the patio after the race and enjoying the views and beautiful weather! We love that the home is within walking distance of town, thus we do not need to drive anywhere the entire weekend. With great restaurants, lost of sites to see and fun shopping around town, this is a fantastic getaway.

The house doesn't show correctly on Google maps: Google points to the orange house in front of ours. Our house is off the street, behind the orange house.

There is always something to see or do in Bisbee. Do you like to mingle with the locals and then head back to your own place and relax, away from it all? The Toland Adobe is a great place for that -- a few minutes on foot from most of the local events yet in a quiet residential area.

Here are the annual events:

Friends of the Copper Queen Library Chocolate Tasting, Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering, Bisbee Fiber Arts Festival, Annual Copper City Classic Vintage Base Ball Tournament, Cinco de Mayo Festival, Bisbee Pride Parade, 4th of July Parade and Coaster Races, Pirates of the High Desert, Brewery Gulch Daze, Ironman Ice Competition, Annual Cars & Bikes Boys and Girls Club Fundraiser, Bisbee Bloomers Garden Tour, Bisbee Blues Festival, Bisbee 1000 Stair Climb, Rotary Wine Tasting and Taste of Bisbee, Copper Queen Halloween, Annual Bisbee Historic Home Tour, and Small Town Holiday and Festival of Lights
