Spacious Restored Barn on 700 acre Estate with Magnficent Views

Bedrooms 6
Space 6,000 sq ft
Property type barn
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

6 Bedrooms, 6 baths, sleeps no more than 12

Large 6000 square foot living space in restored barn. If you like open, airy loft living, this is your property in the country. 2 large master bedrooms, one with Jacuzzi, 1 smaller bedroom and 3 unique bedroom/baths each located in a converted silo. Large kitchen with professional appliances, dining area, fireplace area, living room. 600 square foot deck overlooks a 24 acre private lake. Gunite pool. The property has many trails for hiking (including a walking trail steps from the house), and there is the opportunity (under a separate arrangement) to participate in a working cattle ranch featuring grass fed beef.

Located 5 miles from the Town of Litchfield, the property is in a very private area and is surrounded by 2000 protected acres of the Waterbury Water Company. Litchfield is a short (8-10 min) drive away and features numerous bars and restaurants, museums, nature preserves, antique shops, yoga studios and general sight seeing opportunities.

This is the perfect spot to go with family and friends to enjoy the country and bask in the outdoors or inside the spacious barn.

Although the barn sleeps 12 people, we are not looking to rent to a large group of unrelated people-ie a 'share' type situation or a party house. The person who is contracting to rent the property must be at least 27 years old.

The barn is located on a 700 acre estate/working farm. We raise grass fed beef, and pastured pork and poultry. For an additional fee, we can offer a farm experience depending on the season at an extra cost to be determined by the type of experience desired and the number of people involved. Meat is available for purchase down the road and there is a grill at the house.

There is air conditioning in 5 of the 6 bedrooms, and the other bedrooms remain cool most night and have fans. The slight elevation of the Litchfield Hills makes for cooler nights in the summer than other nearby areas, e.g. coastal Connecticut and New York. There is no air conditioning in the main living spaces of the house and we have never felt it necessary. For the occasional summer heat wave, there is a pool.

The house is also near the well-known Litchfield Daffodils, a twelve-acre planting of narcissus which bloom each Spring and attract admirers from near and far.

A note on Weddings & Parties:

We do not host outdoor parties or weddings in the backyard of this property. Small indoor gatherings are possible - please contact us for details.

If you are interested in an outdoor wedding or party, we have other locations nearby on the estate which are suitable for tents and outdoor events. There is a large field 1/4 mile away, which has electric and water, and there are several other spots around the estate which would be suitable for wedding photos or a small ceremony (e.g. the private lakes, additional fields, etc).

If you are interested in hosting a wedding or party, please note that we have a 1-week minimum rental from June 15-September 9. We would require you to purchase additional liability insurance (please contact us for details).

We had a great winter rental at the barn. Lots of space for 2 families, great property and location

  • 5 of 5

The Morosanis were very hospitable and connected us with their helper network to resolve any issues, which made the rental really easy. Firewood? Housekeeper? No problem. Driveway was plowed each time we arrived.

The property grounds are amazing — we had some great family walks around the pond.

The house isn’t perfect: the living space is intimidatingly large, the kitchen equipment a little dated, as is some of the decor.

But this was 2x the house for a similar/lower price than others in the area. As such it was a terrific place to spend weekends, store ski equipment, and from which to explore the towns nearby.

We would absolutely recommend this property to anyone prioritizing space, location, and value.

Breathtaking Beauty and Views

  • 5 of 5

This review was hard to write because I can't even begin to thank John and Allegra for everything. We had a group of 8 stay at this property for our wedding week. Pictures do not do it justice. It truly is the picturesque definition of a New England paradise. The farms are so peaceful, and the lake behind the property is stunning. It was such a treat to be able to walk down to the water. We saw (and heard) some amazing wildlife and felt like we were able to shed the pressures of our regular lives and jobs and truly relax while here.

The rooms were individualistic and possessed an old world charm. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, this is the place, if you're looking for a spacious family reunion, or other event, this is the space; it is set-up to become what you need it to be, and has all of the amenities available to truly get the most out of your stay.

The deck is the best part. It's huge and incredibly inviting. You can see the lush green earth leading to the lake, and the rolling hills of New England in the background. We had a few days of rainfall, and loved being able to see for miles with the fireplace roaring in the background. It was cozy and calm and set our souls at ease.

I hope to have a reunion here to celebrate an anniversary of this stay, because it truly was a dream vacation and wedding day. Thank you for letting us call your property our home for a week, we will be recommending it to anyone and everyone who is truly looking for the New England experience.

Clean, spacious, and in the midst of nature!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at "The Barn". It was great to be "home" again. We are 6 adults from 3 states who were at a nearby business training for a week - the Barn was so nice to come home to in the evenings and fix dinner, make a fire, and relax together. We went for walks in the morning, hung out, had plenty of space for cards and piano in the evenings... great time! Thanks!

Fun stay for a family of 12

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this large, charming barn. We worried over doors, windows and gates which need work and one old bed but we we'd do it all again. John was responsive when we needed help.

Rustic Country Weekend

  • 4 of 5

What a wonderful place for a friend's weekend. The experience of staying in a converted barn and silos was unique. There was so much space you could get lost. The views of the surrounding country side were beautiful. The owner was easy to reach before, during, and after our stay and answered all of my questions.

If you want a 5 star Four Season hotel this is not for you. This is a fun, different, country experience. We had rain, snow, and sun over the course of the weekend. None of which deterred from the fun our group of friends had.

Perhaps, we will be lucky enough to be able to return for some more fun in warmer weather to experience the nice pool.

Thank you Allegra, it was wonderful.

Perfect for Us!

  • 5 of 5

This 6BR "barn" was just what the group of us needed. 6 adults attending a 6-day conference in the area in early March - we were able to each have our own place and pace in morning and evening, and yet have breakfasts and dinners together, and sit around the fireplace together. It was so relaxing to "come home to" after the intense days. One of us was a jogger who ran around the lake (not on the 2 degrees day, though); another a hobby photographer who found beauty everywhere; a couple of us play piano - next time we'll bring some music! And it won't be so cold in September. We look forward to enjoying the grounds more.

Allegra was easy to communicate with, and she made sure we had access to neighbor help when she had to leave. All in all, a very good experience.
