About Elie Pallandre
Although my wife and I live in the US, the attachment to this family house is strong and we stay there several times each year when we come to France.
Elie Pallandre purchased this Cottage in 1911
Why Elie Pallandre chose Condé-sur-Risle
The hunting lodge and the forest (120 acres) where the house is located were purchased by my grandfather, who enjoyed hunting with his friends and meals in front of the fireplace. After my father inherited the property he bought the frame and foundation of a 200 year old Normand timber-frame house and built la Mûche in 1974 in an area of the forest with views of the Risle river.
What makes this Cottage unique
Being in the middle of a forest with a view of the valley provides a great place to relax away from traffic and the pressures of modern life. Having 120 acres gives many walk opportunities and a place for children to play. In early 2017, La Mûche was the recipient of an award from the Agency for Tourism Development of Eure.

Wonderful woodland cottage
We really loved this beautiful property in its remote woodland setting. Everything was clean and well organised - including the arrival and departure. We truly relaxed here and hope to return soon. Thank you!
Lovely gite in a unique setting. Well equipped.
Secluded hide away with extensive walks on the door step
A joy to be allowed to stay in this most charming and well equipped holiday home
Beautiful property in fabulous setting
Gorgeous grounds, beautiful cottage, inside a little jaded but roaring fire more than makes up for it. Plenty of space for kids to play. Lots to do within an hour’s drive.
Beautiful, relaxing surrounding and a lovely home
We had a wonderful week in La Muche, it was so lovely waking up every morning and all we could hear were the birds. The children (5 & 2) had a fantastic time in the garden, they loved having the freedom of exploring in the woods etc. The location was perfect for exploring, we visited some local towns and it was ok driving distance for Honfleur, Deauville etc. The facilities in the house were great, it had everything we needed and there was ample space for a family of 4. Thank you so much!
Away from it all
We very much enjoyed our stay at LaMuche, especially warming by the fireside on the cool evenings we experienced in late March / early April. LaMuche is definitely ‘away from it all’ and very quiet, save for the owls and other nighttime wildlife sounds of the forest. Some level of French fluency is required as this is not in the heart of tourist country, but D-Day attractions, Honfleur, Etretat and Monet country are close enough for day outings. Even Paris is only a few hours away. Madame Leroux was very helpful when assistance was needed. Thanks Elie, for a great vacation getaway.
La Mûche is part of a 120 acre (54 hectares) forest ("Bois du Val Acard") that includes a wide variety of trees some imported from North America. This will provide plenty of space for walks and/or for children to play. The topography is varied, going from nearly flat area to slopes that lead to a creek on one side and the valley of the Risle on the other. Many paths cross the property that are fun to explore.
The house enjoys views of the Risle Valley and has a large clearing surrounding it.
The area has many historical villages and places. The network of country roads is dense and offers the opportunity for great bicycle rides.
Several towns that are less than 10 minutes away offer open markets (Pont Audemer), great restaurants, historical places (Le Bec Hellouin were Normands assembled before sailing across the Channel and battling the English at Hastings).
Le Bec Hellouin also is a monastery partially open to the public and offers classical concerts during the summer.
