Villa Serena is less than 5 minutes away from Carrillo Beach, a pristine white-sand, palm-lined beach. Rolling hills and mountains covered with tropical forests surround the bay and protect the beach from strong winds and swells. A reef north of the bay acts as a natural barrier, providing calm waters ideal for water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking or anchoring your boat.
Ten minutes to the south of Villa Serena, lies Playa Camaronal, a remote beach with greyish sand and blue waters, which is a popular nesting site for leatherback (Mar–Apr) and olive ridley turtles (year round). It was declared as a National Wildlife Refuge in 1994. Its moderate to strong waves make it an ideal spot for surfers.
Villa Serena has it all!
Welcome to your own place in paradise!
Denisse and William lived in Switzerland for many years. Renovated and renewed several gentlemen farmhouses, and after extensively traveling around the globe, looking for the perfect place as part of living the happiest possible life, they chose the Pacific Ocean side of lovely Costa Rica.
Denisse Cobert purchased this villa in 2012
Villa Serena is a unique oceanfront jewel. The Tuscan architecture has been deployed with solid bases and unparalleled attention to detail. The architect and builder is world-renowned (Philadelphia Airport, and several high-rises on the biggest cities around the globe).
Splendid Pacific Ocean views and impeccable finishes.
The previous owner of Villa Serena is a Canadian investor who built the villa as his private vacation home with no budget restrictions. Villa Serena was built by Italian developer Sam Alibrando with high attention to detail and the highest standards of quality of construction. The location of Villa Serena is a privileged one; anyone going there just falls in love immediately after stepping out of the car. The sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks and the peacefulness of its blue ocean, the magnificent sunsets and the marine breeze, makes days at Villa Serena a magic experience that people want to repeat over and over again. Villa Serena is located near Carrillo, in a very private setting, completely away from the noise and busy streets of towns. No one can predict there is such a beautiful villa there, when entering the gravel road for the first time.
The new owners of Villa Serena just turned it into a very unique oceanfront vacation rental home. And Villa Serena has it all to guarantee the best vacations one can have in its lifetime. The danger of coming to Villa Serena... is not wanting to leave when the time is over!
Villa Serena is a magical Tuscan Style villa with the benefits of the majestic Pacific Ocean right out the back door!
We could not have asked for more! We were surrounded by beauty and spoiled with delicious food our entire trip. This is the way to see Costa Rica!!! Highly recommend Villa Serena!
The property is very beautiful. Right on the ocean. However, the beach is rather hazardous to get to, but the most
beautiful beach (one of the world's 25 best beaches) is in Carrillo and is only 5 minutes away. There are some good
restaurants in Samara - Gusto Beach is one of them. There is also another lovely beach in Samara and lots of shopping.
Marcia and Modesto, who are included in the price of the villa, were wonderful. Marcia is a great cook and very
cooperative, as is Modesto, the caretaker of the property. We felt very safe there since there is a beautiful metal gate
surrounding the property which can only be opened and closed by a remote device. There are two carports so that
the cars are protected from the sun. The whole place is air conditioned and there are screens on windows, etc. The pool on the property is also beautiful and very refreshing. We used it a lot along with the trips to the beaches. The country is
very lush and green and has lots of mangos and papayas and bananas. Very modern kitchen. All in all, there were 9 of us
staying there (it sleeps 10), and it was very comfortable. It helps if you can speak some Spanish since Marcia and Modesto
do not speak English, but I don't that would be a problem.
Villa Serena's best feature is Marcia and Modesto! Marcia and Modesto are wonderful people. Going to the markets in Samara with Marcia was a great experience for our family. It was a great way to see how others live and work as well as become familiar with the area. Marcia's food was tasty! We all highly recommend her guacamole!
Villa Serena is a very well laid out home with plenty of space for our group of six. The outdoor spaces are great - we especially enjoyed having dinner in the outdoor dining room over looking the Pacific Ocean during sunset. WOW!
When going out to dinner, be sure to go to El Colibri in Playa Carrillo. A great Argentinean steakhouse right in town!
Villa Serena is everything you would want in a vacation home in Costa Rica. It is on a cliff over looking the Pacific Ocean with magnificent views. The beach and tidal pools at the foot of the cliff are convenient. 100 yards down the road is another semi-private beach with a waterfall, absolutely beautiful. The house is well maintained by Modesto and Marcia. When repairs are required they don't happen in "Tico Time". Modesto and Marcia are very efficient. Carrillo is a fishing village with a few hotels. Samara is more developed for the tourist trade if that is what you are looking for in a vacation. Both are close by and have beautiful beaches. Playa Carrillo is with in walking distance and, except on Sunday, pretty much your own. Playa Samara is more populate with places to stay and more people on the beach or in the beach front bars. Samara has a taxi stand that will pickup and drop off at the house. We took a tour to Rincon de la Vieja during our stay and Carrillo Adventures picked us up at the house and brought us back that evening. It was a great way to see more of Costa Rica with a guide to help you appreciate what you are seeing.
While the house is secluded you still have easy access to everything Costa Rica has to offer. And you get the pleasure of Modesto and Marcia's company. What could be better than that?
Loved the property and so did my family! We were so pleased to arrive and see such a beautiful view, and we all felt so happy to make such a great choice for a house for our vacation! Would do it again same house same everything!! Thank you to the owners for such a well kept home it was our pleasure to take care of the home like it was ours! God Bless!!!
We had an amazing time at this home, and we are already planning a trip back next year around the same time of year (late March/early April). The property is a little hard to find from the Liberia airport (budget about 3-4 hours to get to the house because you will likely get a little lost). We really appreciated that William was available by phone and that he was able to guide us to the property with no trouble at all. It was very clear how well he knows the area. We received a warm welcome from Marcia and Modesto as soon as we arrived. It was very helpful that I spoke a bit of Spanish as Marcia and Modesto only speak Spanish. I would definitely recommend brushing up on your Spanish before arriving as it will make your stay a bit less complicated, but really this is best practice whenever you travel to a non-English speaking country.
The property was stunning. The photos do not to the property justice, really. The home was very clean and comfortable and the entire property, including the poo,l were immaculately maintained. We were a very small group with no children, so our stay was very relaxing. We walked or drove down to the areas various beaches, and laid around by the pool. The local supermarket was about 15 minutes away and so was the local fish shop, which Marcia recommended. We went shopping one day without Marcia, but I highly recommend holding off on doing any shopping until Marcia is able to come with you. She will direct you on what to buy and will make the best choices with regard to quantity based on how many people she will be cooking for. Her cooking was so healthy and delicious. We all felt as if she was our adopted Grandma, so kind and considerate!
I cannot say enough nice things about his place! My family is planning a trip again sometime next year. My group loved Costa Rica and especially love Villa Serena.
Villa Serena counts with an excellent Gourmet Chef at your service, on request. Specialties: Mediterranean, Sushi and Fusion Cuisine.
Villa Serena also offers the ideal location for a wedding or important celebration. Stylish settings, fine cuisine and wines (on request), gracious hosting and luxurious accommodation, make Villa Serena a unique venue. Photographs in the gardens or with the backdrop of the ocean and a forested hillside, make your vacation or event-stay a truly memorable occasion.
Puerto Carrillo, situated along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica's Guanacaste Province, is known for its jewel among Pacific beaches. The town itself is very small (less than 500 full-time residents) and is predominantly a sport-fishing village with a variety of nice hotels, restaurants and tour operators. The population in Carrillo is mainly local residents and still maintains an authentically Costa Rican atmosphere. Puerto Carrillo is a small unobtrusive community that has been playing host to some of the most well renown sport fishing boats in the world, since its discovery as a billfish destination over 15 years ago. The small town boasts several hotels, fine restaurants, stores, a small airstrip, and one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in Costa Rica. The tiny harbor affords protection to a small handful of charter and private boats that are here on permanent bases. The beautiful white sand beach is popular with swimmers and an ideal beach for your kids.
Playa Carrillo ranks among the Final Four for 25 Best Secret Beaches on Earth (Travel and Leisure March 2012). Just south of the popular surfer’s paradise of Samara Beach, Playa Carrillo is one of the least developed spots on the Nicoya Peninsula. Framed by mountains, the laid-back fishing village has a white-sand beach just off a palm-lined boulevard (there are no unsightly beachfront buildings). Known among divers for its excellent coral reef teeming with marine life, the beach is protected by rocky headlands, providing calm, warm water for swimmers. Don’t miss the La Selva Zoo and Bromeliad Gardens at the southern end of the bay.
