About Grace Knight

Your hosts are Randolph and Grace Knight. Growing up outside New York City, Grace's favorite part of the year was vacation visits to her grandparents, aunts, and cousins who lived in Vermont. As soon as she could move to Vermont, she did. Randolph grew up in Florida, but has loved Vermont since his first visit in 1985. The Knights live at High Shelter year round. They enjoy the outdoors, gardening, and travel. When they travel, they always stay at a vacation rental! They look forward to sharing their special part of Vermont with you.

Grace Knight purchased this farmhouse in 1997

Why Grace Knight chose Weathersfield

Peace, privacy, and the feel that this is the real Vermont. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodland, nature is at our doorstep. But, we are so close to major resort areas (Woodstock, Hanover, Sunapee, Manchester) with their cultural opportunities and retail stores. We are situated between Vermont's only National Park--the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Historic Site in Woodstock, and New Hampshire's only National Park--St. Gauden's in Cornish, NH. Less than 4 miles from the Interstate exit, we are easy to find.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The Knights live here, but completely respect visitors' privacy and need for peace. If visitors need suggestions of things to do, directions to their day's destination, or help with a maintenance issue, the hosts are right there. Because we live on-site, the apartment is always impeccably maintained and completely stocked.

Beautiful Country Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at High Shelter Farm was everything we hoped it would be. The hosts are gracious, the apartment is spotless, and the area is absolutely beautiful. There are clearly marked hiking trails on the huge wooded property and we enjoyed walking in the peacefulness of the woods. We spent the evenings reading, listening to music and watching the stars. Overall, an entirely restful, peaceful and enjoyable stay. We’ve traveled a lot and stayed in a lot of places, and this is one of the best – can’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you, Grace and Randy.

Greatness Through and Through

  • 5 of 5

Grace and Dr. Knight were consummate hosts, outgoing and helpful, eager to take good care of us. The scenery is A-1, perfect. We were there to see foliage, but hated leaving this place. One day we cut our sightseeing short, just so we could sit in the Adirondack chairs and take in the scenery and the silence at High Shelter.

So do it. You'll love the comforts and accommodations. You'll love Grace and Randolph. You'll love a view of Vermont that few get to see. Don't cheat yourself.

A beautiful setting. Friendly welcome. Very comfortable accommodation. I could live there!

  • 5 of 5

A relaxing setting. Trails to walk are available on site. We loved the large kitchen/dining area. There was a generous den area with comfortable seating and a table for cards, puzzles. The bedroom had a king size bed plently of room along with lots of closet space. Lots of windows and light in the whole area including kitchen. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and large seperate shower. There were maps and pamphlets of things to do. The pool had been closed for the season so we didnt get to try that.

We were there to enjoy the leaves and relax. Our three days went quickly.

We really enjoyed our time there and will stay longer the next time!

A Special Property

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a real slice of Vermont country this is the place for you. It is spacious, well furnished, and located in a truly picturesque setting. Not only are the views great, but the property itself is remarkable. The owners made available a Polaris 4-wheel vehicle for us to ride around, and they've cut trails which show the property at its best.

Each of the three rooms are large and well furnished, including the kitchen which is fully equipped. The bathroom is large and well appointed - two sinks, a whirlpool tub, and large walk-in shower. Additionally, if the weather is appropriate, there is a very nice patio with comfortable seating and a nice grill. The kitchen has lots of glass looking out on a beautiful garden and there is a small herb garden right outside the kitchen door.

The owners are resident on the property and could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We had only a couple of minor issues and they were quickly addressed and resolved.

A bonus is the two resident dogs. They are friendly and well behaved, and truly seem to enjoy spending time with the guests.

A couple of considerations: Access to the apartment is about 40-50 yards from the parking area, down a grassy slope. If the weather is inclement or the renter has mobility issues it could be a problem. The other is that part of the charm of the place is that it is remote. The downside of that is that it takes a while to get to many of Vermont's attractions, but if you live in a city or suburb and are looking for a secluded, beautiful retreat, I can't imagine a better place.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

My only complaint was that we were in Vermont for my son's wedding at a nearby venue and did not have time to spend at this wonderful location....especially walking the trails.

Owner's Response: Dear Laurie, I hope to see you and Rodger back to walk the trails, especially now that you have family in the area! Hope your family wedding weekend was everything that the couple dreamed of.
