About Joan and Brian

Joan and Brian live in Oakville in Canada and have 3 wonderful children with our youngest in University! Brian grew up 20 miles/ 30 kms from Soheen and visited Lahinch every Sunday as a child and vacationed there every summer. Lahinch is a very special place for us and just thinking of there reduces our stress! Soheen is a house that we never can stay there too long and is one that we get so excited every time we stay there. We built this house with the best of materials and appliances. It is the house we intend to retire in.

Joan and Brian purchased this bungalow in 1998

Why Joan and Brian chose County Clare

Soheen is a very special place for us and it lives up to its name which means 'a place of rest'. The review are spectacular and we just love spending time there when we can! We built this house with the greatest care and attention to maximize comfort and be a restful house in keeping with the surrounding natural area.

What makes this bungalow unique

We, like our guests, that visit our home just love the atmosphere in the house - the wonderful finish which has the best of materials to make it most comfortable. Large open kitchen with wood floor and a perfect place to relax and enjoy the views of the countryside. The living room with natural stone fireplace which is just a perfect place to read a book and take it easy. The master bedroom with its en-suite and has a fireplace to give it that real Irish feel. The large gallery area on the 2nd floor which has a desk to sit and read and do yoga or stretching exercises! The main bedroom upstairs which has wonderful views and the feel that you are in another world and of course the children's room which has 4 bunk beds! A place of rest and rejuvenation !

Beautiful and clean home with sea views and lovely garden

  • 5 of 5

We were so thrilled when we arrived at Soheen to find such a clean home with beautiful views and a lovely garden. The kitchen is very spacious and sunny. Our family of six really enjoyed spending time in the kitchen together. The sitting room is cozy and has many bright Windows. The bedroom set up was ideal for our needs as well, to very comfortably sleep 6. The bunk beds even accommodated our 6'2" tall adult son! We enjoyed the coastal location, spending time in mainly Lahinch and Doolin. If you have a chance take the Doolin Cliff Walk with Pat Sweaney. You won't be disappointed! Also, at the house, we enjoyed visits from the neighbors little black and white terrier dog, named Ben, or Bennie as we called him. We had such a relaxing time at Soheen, with the ability to day trip to Galway and the Connemara region. Try dinner at Barrtra Seafood right near the house. One of the best meals we have ever had. A bit pricey compared to pub food, but well worth the 35 Euro per person for the Seafood Surprise 5 course meal! Also try the seafood chowder at O'Conner's Pub in Doolin. We highly recommend this holiday house! Thank you Joan and Brian for sharing your beautiful and restful home with travelers!

Lovely Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Soheen for a week with our family of five adults. It is a well kept, clean and fully appointed home. We had a few questions of the owners and they were very responsive. The location is a very short walk from the ocean and has a quaint view of the rolling rural countryside. There are patios outside, three bathrooms, a dishwasher, a washer and a dryer which we appreciated! We loved our time there and would definitely return to Soheen if we visit the western coast of Ireland again!

Soheen is wonderful.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is large and beautiful. It was easy to find Barrtra Seafood Restaurant (which is excellent), but we didn't readily find the cottage because the picture in VRBO shows it from the side you don't see from the road. It is green (light color) rather than white. But once there, we two couples were very happy. The grocery store in Ennistymon had plenty of food for breakfasts, for bag lunches, and even for dinners. The walk to the sea from the cottage is not long, and it was fun to watch the tide change the shoreline. We took day trips to The Burren, Bunratty Castle, Galway, and many other great venues. Don't hesitate to reserve this wonderful house. The owners are very responsive to any questions.

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful house. It has ocean views and the peace and quit were very welcome after Dublin. The house was very well kept, and there was plenty of room even with 3 teenage daughters. This is a great location to explore western Ireland from. The Cliffs of Mohr are only a few minutes away and Galway is less than 90 minutes by car.

The house and gardens were absolutely beautiful!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was the most relaxing and adventurous holiday that we have ever had! It was a three generation family vacation that was long in the making. This is the perfect place if you want to relax by the seaside or explore what Ireland has to offer! The house was absolutely beautiful and well equipped. The restaurant, just a stone's throw away, was the best we had ever been to! I personally recommend the surprise menu. Your taste buds will not be disappointed! Many of Ireland's offerings are not far from your door and you will not want to go home. I highly recommend this location and will be staying here when we return!

Beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this home! It was nice to come home after a day is sightseeing and sit in the back yard and look at the ocean and relax.

We were a family of 5 adults and the house was perfect for us.

The only negative was we only had one dish cloth and one tea towel, so we had to do laundry more often.

We would stay here again for sure!

The Cummins family.
