This home was just fabulous! We rented it in the area of my son's wedding. It was perfect for our needs. All the amenities we needed. We loved family time in front of the fireplace. It was very clean and well cared for. The hot tub and pool were a big hit. The view from the screened in porch was breathtaking. We would definitely rent again. Highly recommend! Thank you for sharing your beautiful property!
We are a family of four (kids 7 and 14) and have rented a number of getaway New England places in recent years, but this has been by far our favorite. I want to join the chorus of praise on this review page to highly recommend this very special place. The combination of the beautiful old house (with tasteful modern amenities), spacious, peaceful setting, mountain view, and swimming pool with hot tub, make this a wonderful experience. We all love this place and our kids always ask about going back. We spent a week here this past August, which was our third stay, and I'm sure we'll be back. The owners are very friendly and responsive. I definitely recommend the Amsden House!
We had a lovely family vacation at this property. Upon arrival we received a gift basket full of special local treats...yum! The pool was the highlight for us and it was just steps away from the house, which made it easy to get out and enjoy a relaxing swim with a lovely view. Our family of 5 found the house comfortable . Our youngest is 17 years old, so there were no worries regarding pool safety. The house is in a remote setting, which is exactly what we wanted. The grounds were well managed, and the care takers very friendly (father and daughter team that only came once during our stay). The closet grocery store is about 20 minutes away. We took a few small day trips to nearby towns. These side trips were indeed fun, but we were always glad to get back to the house! Some members of our family took a hike up a near by mountain trail, they loved it!
I would make 2 tiny suggestions. The house could use some more fans as it is not air conditioned and we did have some 90+ temperatures during our stay. I also would like to see an bit more lighting options. The house has a lodge feel to it, which is great, but it would have been helpful to have more light to do things like puzzles or games.
Without question, we would stay here again! In fact, I am already dreaming about our next visit of this delightful home away from home.
The only reluctance I have in sharing my enthusiastic and glowing review of this property is the potential competition it might produce when I want to book it again in the future! This place is absolutely terrific! It was the home base for our vacation to a wedding/family reunion of 3 generations of family traveling from Utah, Jackson Hole, Denver, Philly, and Ann Arbor. We could not have found a more perfect place! After each day of outings and group activities, we'd convene at the house for a BBQ, cocktails, and large group dinners nightly on the screened in porch. Daily swimming in the pool, hot tubbing by sunrise, or by sunset, volley ball games, badminton-- the fun was endless and we explored every bit of it. Some of us mountain biked in the woods, there was a "bachelor" party out by the stone fire place/fire pit in the wooded campground, the honeymooners even spent one night in the ice house! The beds in every room were comfortable, and the place was spacious yet had a warm atmosphere and hominess. We played games around the living room table, watched the Olympics together, and basically felt like we never wanted to leave. The house was clean and well cared for, with up to date kitchen appliances, nicely designed bathrooms-- all of the luxuries one could ask for in a rustic setting, with perfect privacy! Diana was a great host and left us a generous gift basket that we enjoyed at various points throughout the week. Everyone agreed that this place was the perfect home away from home and we hope very much to reunite there in the future. We're grateful for your hospitality and for the precious memories we share from our time in this lovely mountain retreat.
Just spent a week at Amsden House with our family. We loved the pool and it was well maintained. The house itself was comfortable and provided plenty of room for everyone. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!
This was my third time staying at this house. I cannot say enough good things about it. From the second you arrive, everything is taken care of and ready to go. The house is so clean, has everything you would ever need, and tucked away in the perfect spot. Diana is extremely helpful with everything leading up to the stay, as well as follow up after. If you are looking for a place for your family, a weekend with friends, summer or winter, this is the spot for you! Hoping to make it back during the warmer months to use the pool! You will be missing out if you don't book this place!
