About Mona Dajani- Owner
Hello and thank you for looking at our property! Over the years we have used this house for our family and extended family so it feels like our HOME away Home. We give you, our guests, the personal touch from the moment you make your reservation. Renting our vacation home has been a fantastic experience—largely because of all the interesting guests we’ve hosted! How else would we have met famous authors, sommeliers, not to mention the dozens of other families and friends who have made 'Sanctuaire' their home away from home for many years? We bought the property many years ago as a 'retreat' from the grind of being big-law lawyer in New York City. We extensively renovated the house to feel like our family home in Aspen, Colorado- yet closer to Chicago. We are blessed with the property and has been a direct positive correlation between our personal and professional lives. We’re avid outdoor family of hikers, swimmers, sailors, snowboarders, skiers and kayakers! Mona, a former Chef in France, loves to cook and invite family and friends to share in her fresh farm to table food and wine pairings! Over the many years, our family and friends simply cherish, love and enjoy 'Sanctuaire' and we offer it to select guests. It has very positive energy. We are meticulous about its maintenance, appearance, and appeal. We have both legal and business experience representing hotels all over the world. Through our commitment, legal & business experience, Sanctuaire has established a business relationship with our guests that will last a lifetime.

Gorgeous place to unwind for a weekend!!
First off i would like to say thank you to Mona for letting us rent your cabin out.. We had five of us ladies for a nice birthday weekend away.
Mona was so kind and if we had any sort of problem she got on it right away.
This cabin is super cute, cozy, and perfect place to get away from everything. If u want to go out and get a bite to eat or wine taste u are about 5 mins from the small town. We definitely would go back here again for a nice getaway.. Thanks again Mona..
In the middle of wine trail with great home location on a small lake. Went in Feb 2020. Host was amazing, checkin easy, house in great condition. The property is perched above the bowl-shaped lake and must be an incredible place to be in the summer.
Too Many Rules to Have Fun
The place itself is ok. Beautiful backyard. Quiet. Clean enough for a cabin…though some of the towels had stains. Well-stocked…though there were used condiments in the fridge. So, basically right down the middle. Not the fanciest, not the worst. The town itself is super cute. But do yourself a favor and choose a different property in the area.
Where it gets weird is the extreme number of rules. Lists framed and hung. Notes posted all around the house. Some, I kid you not, duct taped to the walls. 24-hour surveillance cameras outside. Multiple documents sent prior to check-in. These included an extensive visitor cleaning list despite the high cleaning fee already paid, yet mysteriously excluded a separate pet policy I didn’t know existed even though I clearly ordered a pet-friendly rental. Owner insisted on a phone call (which she kept missing) to my private number yet was cagey with the entrance code until 30 minutes AFTER check-in. All of this chalks up to a weekend spent with Big Brother. You’ll be constantly worried that you’ll be caught doing something wrong, and make no mistake, you probably will no matter how quiet or benign your group is. We were 2 couples, one pregnant and one with a small child, and 2 highly trained dogs who just wanted to sit around and play games all weekend. Wild, I know. We kept trying to figure out where the catch would be, and for us it turned out to be the dogs. For anyone else reading this, especially if you’re a larger group or visiting during outdoorsy weather, it could be the hot tub rules, gas grill rules, fireplace rules, boating rules, or check-out rules that do you in.
Bottom line -- if having your every move tracked on a quiet weekend away is your thing, by all means, go for it. But if you truly want a place to relax and let go without a care in the world, this isn’t it.
Dear Marie- We're so sorry to see your review and that we did not exceed your expectations as most of our guests will attest. As you may recall, after your stay in our rental home, we made you aware of our concerns about the condition in which you left our home at the time of your departure, at which point you threatened to leave a bad review. Also- while I am a pro-bono General Counsel for a dog rescue and obviously love dogs, horses and other animals, our stated policy is to require prior written approval with appropriate dog fee with a limit of two dogs. You ignored this dog policy rule and chose to bring several dogs plus extra guests without prior written approval. This rule which is stated on the website and rental agreement you signed, is for the health and safety of our guests as we have extra cleaning procedures and hire another crew after the first crew to scrub and steam clean the house. We also report the number of guests for fire safety. As a sign of good faith and our commitment to keeping our guests satisfied, we returned the balance of the security deposit to you despite the extra effort and money necessary to return the home to the condition required for our next guests. Obviously, this has not satisfied you as you have elected to post this review. We certainly would have been more than willing to accommodate some of your dogs and extra guests (without the party you had) during your stay if only you had brought this up during the many communications we had and before we discovered the damage to our home -with pictures. We offer you our sincere apologies and hope we clarified a few things. In our 22 years of opening up our home, we have consistently have had amazing guests and had great reviews. We are fully committed to making sure all of our guests are satisfied and comfortable.
