About Svein A. Berg

We are a family of five, currently living in Manhattan, New York. Olga is born in Ukraine and Svein is from Norway. Our three children Sebastian, Sophie and Ingrid keep us pretty busy.

Svein A. Berg purchased this house in 2005

Why Svein A. Berg chose Minnesota

We bought this house in 2005 when we moved to St. Paul. The house was built in 1889, and has a character and charm that spoke to us. It is in a child friendly neighborhood, with a huge park just and a public tennis court across the street. Mississippi Market, our local Coop with local and organic produce, is just a two minutes walk away.

What makes this house unique

The house has character, and a great floor plan for having friends over.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your house was terrific, and again, big thank you for renting it to us. We had some family over and they all commented on what a great house you have, very cozy and Christmas-like.

Family friendly and great location!

  • 5 of 5

My family of five (including 3 small boys) was in town for a family wedding and this house was absolutely perfect! It was close to all of the wedding festivities, in a lovely quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed having the extra space for our boys and they were thrilled to discover some toys in the corner of the kitchen. We also enjoyed having the fenced-in patio in the backyard. We would definitely love to stay again if we have another opportunity--I think we all wished we had more time! Thank you!

Great location and lots of space

  • 5 of 5

We spent several days at the Berg House in July. The main benefits of the house are that it has loads of space. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs that are a good size, plus a futon downstairs. It's more room than we needed, but it was a welcome change from staying with our young children in the same hotel room. The location can't be beat. The neighborhood is rapidly gentrifying. To the south within walking distance is great restaurants and shopping. There are 2 playgrounds within walking distance. And it's less than 10 minutes drive to downtown St. Paul's museums (you could walk if you weren't with young children, or with young children who complain less than ours do about a 20-minute walk).

The house isn't in quite as nice of shape as the pictures might lead you to believe. The landscaping hasn't been taken care of in some time. There was some water damage (which they were fixing and the owner sent us a note about). The kitchen wear could be updated (lots of chipped bowls, cups, etc.) and some things have gone missing (not a spatula to be found).

With that said, it is still a great deal for the neighborhood and the space. I highly recommend.

Wonderful house with lots of room. And we were happily surprised with the accommodations for our 1 year old! Great location. Svein was very nice and the home was welcoming.

Large, lovely well-appointed home

  • 5 of 5

The Berg House is a large, two-story lovely home with everything we needed for a long weekend in the city. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen large and well-appointed, all the rooms spacious, and everything's spotlessly clean. A lovely back patio for morning breakfast and evening wine, and a nice neighborhood for walking and shopping and drinking great coffee. Thank you!

Comfy, charming and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We were completely at home at the Berg house. Everything was as expected, Svein was warm and hospitable, and Ray was on call in case anything went wrong-- and not a thing went wrong. Highly recommend this great pied a terre in St. Paul.
