About John Peters
John and Melanie Peters are the happy owners of the Renegade Golf Chalet along with Melanie's sister Suzanne Moore. We reside in Decatur, Al, but we love the time we spend at our chalet. We have just finished an extensive and exhausting renovation of the property and we look forward to sharing it with our rental guests.
John Peters purchased this Chalet in 2009
Why John Peters chose Crab Orchard
We chose to buy on Renegade Mountain because of the secluded, but secure nature of the mountain location (elevation 2550 ft)in a gated community. The presence of the Renegade Golf Course at the top of our mountain and the close proximity to Fairfield Glade and many other golf courses and state parks also played an important factor in our choice of properties. Even though our Chalet is in Crab orchard, we are members of Fairfield Glade and our guests can enjoy all the benefits as Fairfield Glade guests, including special golf rates.
What makes this Chalet unique
We enjoy the feeling of total isolation in our chalet, even though it is close to many golf courses, restaurants, shopping, and state parks. Day trips to Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg are also a great way to spend our leisure time.

A-Frame in Crab Orchard
The only problem we faced was our water was "turned off" for several hours, which led to two people in our party renting a motel room in order to take an evening shower.
Great place in the woods
We enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit, and large tv in the living room. It was a short drive (about 5 mins) to Ozone Falls and 25 mins to Cumberland Mountain State Park, which has a very nice pool. Place was clean and kitchen had everything needed to cook. Our dogs enjoyed the backyard. We didn't see any animals except for a frog. Mosquitos weren't around either which is always wonderful. We'd recommend and would stay again.
Very quiet and peaceful!
If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. We also enjoyed a play at the Playhouse.
Could have been great...but:
House was for sale and we had to leave one day for an appraisal. Highly inconvenient as there was a death in the family and we had to leave 3 days early, and needed that time and day to pack. Communication was rough, I was told 1 PM, but they showed up at 12, stating the time zone change was 2 miles away. Also was told it would take an hour, when realtor arrived, they informed us it would take 2 hrs. Owner refunded for the base price of one day, not including taxes or fees. My suggestion: if you are trying to sell your house, don't list it as available. This was the 2nd house we had to find for this trip as the first house was sold after booking and paying for the first half. Frustrating to say the least. The chalet was cozy, though everything in the kitchen was slightly sticky, and the carpets were stained. My dog was quite interested in smelling the rugs, so they clearly have been peed on in the past. For the price, great location and secluded, yet close enough to several attractions. Better than a hotel, but not stress free. ..
Convenient and spacious cabin
We have rented this cabin multiple times and have always had a great stay. Well appointed and convenient to the golf courses we play. We will be back!
We stayed here for a golf trip to Crossville. It's about a 20 minute drive to any course but it's a great place if you like to be secluded instead of the apartment style rentals of Fairfield Glades. John was extremely nice and very cooperative with everything before, during and after our stay.
Renegade Golf Chalet is located in close driving distance of a number of fine wineries, most of which provide free samples to those knowledgeable of the culture of wines. If you sample very many new wines, you might need a designated driver to get you back up the curvy Renegade Mountain Parkway to the chalet.
