Flower Hill Farm Retreat offers rustic simplicity for those longing for time in nature. We are located in Western Massachusetts, fifteen to twenty minutes west of Northampton, 30 minutes from Amherst College and UMASS. Our Eco-Friendly Vegetarian Vacation/Getaway Retreat is a 1790 restored farmhouse with an attached artist/writer studio and barn (painting studio). The house has two full downstairs and upstairs apartments. The studio (VRBO.com 970510 ) ( is set between the house and barn and can be connected to the downstairs (VRBO.com 970515 ) and upstairs ((VRBO.com 970510 ) to make for one cozy house. There are three private bathrooms, three queen bedrooms, a tiny double bedroom, and two vegetarian kitchens. A dining room, that seats up ten is part of the retreat when booking the entire retreat or just the upstairs and downstairs. The living room fireplace works and may be used seasonally, only on approval, for an extra fee to help cover cost of wood. Please ask about the fireplace if it is an important reason you are booking. We cannot promise ahead that it can be used.
The buildings face east and are surrounded by rambling organic gardens, forest, hillside and mountain range views, marvelous sky and landscapes to explore. Cross-country skiing, sledding, and snow shoeing on a twenty-acre hillside (ten acres are in wildlife conservation) in the foothills of the Berkshires just six miles from Northampton, Massachusetts. We are an easy one hour drive from Lenox/Tanglewood and other venues of cultural interest in the Berkshires, Pioneer Valley and Vermont.
It is a great joy to the owner that Flower Hill Farm has evolved into a diverse wildlife habitat. Be sure to bring your binoculars and cameras. By car you will be able to reach Snow Farm in 5 minutes, 12 minutes to Double Edge Theatre and 15 minutes to Northampton.
Flower Hill Farm is a very clean, simple, spacious, rustic place surrounded by the magic of nature. Fabulous Views. We do not wear shoes inside any of our spaces. Come visit and leave the outside world behind.
We do not use poisons of any kind -- pesticides, herbicides, or any chemical fertilizers -- at Flower Hill Farm.
Outside the walls of the old farmhouse and studio nature abounds with wonders. We have no pets here, but over 50 species of butterflies, 70 species of birds including songbirds, grouse, wild turkey, woodcock and other creatures of the wild live in our gardens and forest. Fireflies dazzle guests during the summer nights. Guests enjoy breathtaking views -- sunrise, moonrise and stargazing too! Woodland and garden paths along with a country road offer inspiring walks... Don't miss a moonlight walk through the gardens. Hundreds of varieties of plants, shrubs, ornamental and fruit trees add to your outdoor experience throughout the seasons.
Northampton, home to Smith College and the Paradise City Arts Festival, is only 15/20 minutes away, while Lenox/ Tanglewood, Stockbridge, MOCA, Becket, with Jacobs Pillow and Williamstown/Clarke Museum, are an easy 45 minutes to one-hour drive. SNOW FARM is 5 minutes by car and DOUBLE EDGE THEATRE is only 12 minutes drive. VALLEY VIEW FARM is under ten minutes away. PATCHWORK FARM is about 12minutes by car.
The surrounding hilltowns are filled with great bookstores, excellent restaurants and both famous and unknown writers and artists who have seasonal open studios and sales. Writers' workshops such as Patchwork Farm, yoga, dance and other creative ventures abound in the valley and hilltowns. Snow Farm and the New England Craft Program are five minutes from Flower Hill Farm. Valley View Farm is under ten minutes.
Historic Deerfield, with the Deerfield Inn and Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory; Buckland/Shelburne Falls, with The Bridge Of Flowers and Potholes; Montague, with the Montague Book Mill; Worthington, home to the Sevenars Music Festival; Cummington, with its popular Country Fair, The William Cullen Bryant Homestead, and Greenwood Music Camp; and Windsor, with the Notchview Cross Country Ski Center are all but 15-20-30 minutes away along scenic country roads.
Flower Hill Farm, is only 10 minutes away from an Audubon Sanctuary and the DAR state forest with walking trails and lake for swimming, kayaking, cross country skiing and snow shoeing; Chapel Brook Falls with rock climbing, hiking and waterfalls is just down the road 7 minutes.
