About Sandy Zelensky

My husband grew up in Milton, DE which is the next town over. We live north of Baltimore and wanted a getaway and eventually a place to retire!

Sandy Zelensky purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Sandy Zelensky chose Prime Hook Beach

Primehook beach is quiet and the people are friendly. It is away from hustle and bustle but you can drive to get anything you want in about 10-20 minutes.

What makes this cottage unique

We enjoy the privacy and quiet. It is also a safe place for kids to be able to ride their bikes, swim, walk the beach, etc.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Also stayed in August 2010.

We very much enjoyed our time here! Our welsh terrier loved the beach.

Heaven Awaits!

  • 5 of 5

Our family has rented many homes along the Eastern Coast and, by far, this was best in over twenty years. Walking into Sandy's home was like getting a hug! Both Sandy and her home are the sweetness things! Sandy was always extra kind and her response time to emails is amazing! She even emailed helpful notes about the house. The area is serene and beautiful, heaven really. The house is adorable, just the best beach cottage. It is charmingly decorated with little ships and shells, the wrought iron added touches accent the warm feel. Each room is an oasis of relaxation, just like the beach! Even the bathroom had plenty of empty wood cabinets for towels and items. Everything was so clean. The windows are wonderful with beautiful shades. Everything was in pristine condition. Steps from the beach, with a perfect outdoor enclosed shower. Everyday, we had fresh produce from the farms on Prime Hook Rd, just delicious. The huge farmhouse sink was my favorite with its wrought iron hangers of coffee cups or pots and pans, along with the daybed that looks out to the beach. You can make a pot of coffee in her coffeemaker and just unwind on her couch with its quilt throw. That is a great vacation! The outlet shopping nearby was awesome. The stores had tremendous bargains. There are at least four food stores nearby and a little farther on is the boardwalk in Rehobeth. You can tell that Sandy and her family take such great care of this home, and they take great care of their guests. This vacation spot is a slice of heaven. Nobody wanted to leave, it was that nice. A vacation of wonderful memories. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us, Sandy!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you SO much for this wonderful review, Sarah! I am so glad you and your family enjoyed the house and I hope you come back. It is a great area for doing all those "beachy" things like shopping, movies, miniature golf, go carts, giant water slide, going out to eat, etc., and then come back to quiet Prime Hook.

I loved the cottage, and Sandy was wonderful.

We would not have chosen the last week in June however if we had known about the mating of horseshoe crabs. After laying their eggs they can’t always make it back to the water and die on shore. We were a little shocked by the smell and the flys. The flys made it difficult to grill outside and to relax on the beach. When there was an ocean breeze it was wonderful. Kept the flys and the smell away. I would definitely rent this cottage again , it was clean and very comfortable, I would just avoid that time of year.

Quaint Simple Cabin

  • 5 of 5

While I actually am not thrilled with using Home Away in general, we had a nice stay at a beautiful quiet beachfront property. This cabin is simple and you have to bring a lot of your own items - linens, cooking oil, etc, but the basics are there including even beach umbrellas, a coffee pot, and a lot of helpful cooking things. Sandy was a thorough host and we had an easy time finding the place, getting settled, and cleaning up afterwards. Nice neighbors as well!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here a few nights and found it to be an awesome location and property! Just a note: the VRBO app on your phone doesn't have all the info that the owners gave us, so just make sure to keep track of the emails and not just use the app. We liked it so much we are probably going to book for next year!

Peaceful beach escape!

  • 5 of 5

At one point we had 4 generations in this lovely home. We loved walking out the door and onto the beach and just chilling in the house. The cottage shows lots of TLC. Windows and appliances are new and there's a huge TV that we used for "movie nights." We agreed to no TV and enjoyed our family time playing games, cooking out, and doing jigsaw puzzles. There's a new Weber grill, Rachel Ray cookware, and plenty of dishes. Even though it was August we only needed the a/c a few times. Do bring bug spray. We fell asleep to the sound of the waves. It was so relaxing! Sandy was wonderful, very responsive.

Because Prime Hook is a national wildlife refuge, there are lots of birds that migrate through. You can bird watch on the road coming in to the beach area; visit the small museum at the Prime Hook NWR headquarters; launch boats and canoes there and use the photography blind to take wildlife photos. You can also launch boats up at Slaughter Beach, about 7-10 miles away.

Delaware Paddlesports in Lewes will deliver and pick up rental kayaks. One of our renters said they were great! Call them at (302)645-7300 for further info.
