About Susan Pohl
I currently split my time between Florida and Tennessee -yup, I'm a snowbird. I discovered Watauga Lake in 2010 when friends invited us up for a visit. It was love at first site! The fact that the Cherokee National Forest surrounds most of the lake makes it that much more beautiful and unspoiled. After spending many summers on Cape Cod and fighting all the tourist traffic, this seemed like paradise...and it is! I have discovered a place that I can truly relax.
Susan Pohl purchased this Cabin in 2012
Why Susan Pohl chose Butler
The views from this house are amazing and it just felt 'right' when this house came up for sale...so now I own it and hope to share some of what Watauga Lake offers to other people. I have been here for several summers now, and it has proven to be as perfect a family experience as I could hope for - as well as a great place for friends to visit. This is a place to have good times and make good memories!
What makes this Cabin unique
I fell in love with the views, hands down! The house is cute and a little quirky. The inside staircase is narrow and winds like a lighthouse staircase, but the house is cute! (There is an outside stairway that goes to the second level also). And the bath house between the dock and the house is so convenient! It is a beautiful piece of property - it just feels good to be on the deck there relaxing and taking it all in!

Relaxing Days on Watauga Lake
We want to thank Susan for a lovely time at her lake front cabin home. Upon entering the cabin, we were greeted to a spectacular view, a “welcome” basket full of delicious goodies, cozy living quarters making you feel at home at once. This cabin had all the necessities you could want or need. The middle deck storage contained a refrigerator, toilet, rafts, and kayaks with paddles to use on the lake. As a special note, Susan is easy to communicate with, answers questions and goes out of her way to ensure you enjoy your stay. We rented a boat from the nearby Fish Springs Marina and explored the large lake all day. We would highly recommended this home to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun vacation, whether it be a couple or two like us, a family, or a group of friends. This is the place to stay.
Thank you, we had a wonderful and relaxing vacation.
Best Mountain Trip Evrr6😎
House was very clean and convenient. Susan (owner) had everything you could possibly need!!!
Terrific lake home!
We loved our long weekend on the lake. The house is well-equipped, clean and comfortable. Beautiful views from the large deck, great for relaxing and drinking it all in. Also enjoyed some excursions in the kayaks. We'll be keeping this place in mind for future trips!
A Wonderful Place to Relax
We were looking for a place to rest and restore our souls. This was the place. Tucked away on the side of a mountain overlooking a beautiful lake, our first views in the morning were spectacular. We are not used to such beautiful scenery & were in awe of the Lord's handiwork around Watauga Lake. We spent a lot of time relaxing and reading on the deck. We arrived at night after a very long drive. Too tired to get groceries, we were so happy to find a basket of goodies there on the table. Bottle of wine, pasta, marinara sauce, crackers, chips, nuts, granola bars, popcorn & candy! We didn't go to the store for groceries for 3 days. We were able to relax and enjoy the serenity of the place. It had everything we needed.
Then when we were fully rested up, we took a short and beautiful drive across the state line to Boone and Blowing Rock, NC. We really enjoyed our visits to both towns. Overall, this was one of our favorite travel destinations! Susan was quick to answer any questions we had. We would definitely recommend this place!
Special place, Beautiful and spotless 🌟
We stayed at the house for a week, it's a special place that must be seen. From the amazing lake and mountains views of every angle of the house to the house itself. Not to mention the close town of Boone which is adorable. And as far as cleaness it doesnt get much better than what we experienced here. Susan and Salvatore, cant say enough about them, available at anytime and with loads of information . We'll be back because there's so much to explore! Had an amazing time. Love
Access all the lake has to offer right from the dock at the house. Swim, fish, or boat right from the dock. Boat launches, swimming beaches, hiking trails and picnic sites are located within the Cherokee National Forest and are available for public use. The Appalachian Trail crosses the lake at its southwestern tip. Hike the Appalachian Trail or one of the other hiking trails available and discover waterfalls and even more gorgeous views. Parking is available for the hike to Laurel Falls is just north of Hampton off of Route 321. Private marinas provide boat rental, boat mooring and boat launching facilities. Watauga Lake is perfect for almost any type of boating - from houseboats to sailboats to ski and wakeboard boats to canoes and kayaks - they are all at home on the lake. If you feel the need for a little “civilization”, Boone, NC is just 30 minutes away and Blowing Rock just another five miles or so. On the Tennessee side, Elizabethton is just 40 minutes and Johnson City, TN just beyond that.
