Photos and Description of this Georgetown holiday cottage

On the Water 2BR 1BA Newly Built Cottage with Screened Porch

This cottage is on a small bluff overlooking the water and surrounding marshes. It is located on a secluded peninsula just 5 miles from Bath, Me.

There is a hiking trail along water's edge and also kayaks and a canoe to rent to explore the waterways.

The cottage has wood beamed ceilings and pine floors. There is a good size porch from which you can enjoy sunset views over the water.

There is a queen size bed in one bedroom and two twin size beds in the other. The couch in the living room converts to a bed for additional sleeping accommodations.

For those who desire to stay 'plugged in' we offer Satellite TV and Wireless Internet.

The kitchen is complete with full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster and coffee pot not to mention all the pots, pans, dishes and utensils you will need. If you enjoy to BBQ there is a grill just outside the front door. For lobster lovers we have a large pot available for you to cook them fresh in your cottage.

The Midcoast area of Maine is known for its miles of white sandy beaches and Lobster wharfs where you can enjoy their famous lobster dinners on the dock as you watch the lobstermen bringing in their catch for the day. What makes the midcoast so appealing is the fact that you get to enjoy all this without the crowds. You will love the slower pace of life and the pristine beauty of this untouched area.

About Ruth Francis

We, Sam and Ruth Francis, are the owners and hosts of eight rental properties in Georgetown, Maine. We have four wonderful grown sons and are proud grandparents. We worked for years to finish our timber frame dream home at the tip of the peninsula. We now enjoy our role as pastors to a growing church in Bath, Maine.

Ruth Francis purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Ruth Francis chose Boothbay Harbor Area

We purchased this unique fifty acre property with its half mile long peninsula over thirty years ago. Since then we have lived here and operated a traditional wooden boat shop. Over the years we have built six charming cottages, as well as, converted a Sailor's Loft to a rental with breathtaking, panoramic views. We also, offer the home that we first built and lived in to renters, with it's ideal location at the tip of the peninsula with deep water frontage and a private dock. We have added other touches to our property with a garden house, ten slip boat dock, a hiking trail and clearings for fishing and picnics.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottages are situated to allow privacy but also to maintain the quality of the open, natural spaces. Each cottage overlooks the marsh and adjacent Back River which flows off the mighty Kennebec and Nature Conservancy land beyond.

A lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We have been staying at Back River Bend for many years and just love it there! The cabin is clean, all dishes, lobster pots, frying pans, silverware, charcoal grill-outside (you name it, it is already there). We LOVE RUTH and SAM! The rented boat slip allows us to dock our boat there and we do not have to worry about someone cutting it loose and we don't have to pull the boat out when it is low tide as there is enough water there whether it is high tide or low tide!

Exact;y what we were looking for and as advertized

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Maine, and the cottage was perfect -- rustic, but comfortable with a great view and easy access to kayaking from the property. We slept well with a cool breeze every night, after very active days. The inclusion of a pass to Reid State Park and Popham Beach was a real bonus and a money-saver because we went to each a few times. I am rating our stay as 4 stars rather than 5 primarily because the mosquitoes in the area were awful during our stay; worse in the woods and by a river than if we were closer to open ocean. Also, the nature of staying in a cabin is hard to describe as 5 star.

Owner's Response: It was very unusual to have mosquitoes in August this year. We usually have some in early June but due to the fact that it was so unusually dry in June and July of this year (some called it draught conditions) the mosquitoes never hatched till the rain came in August. A weird quirk of nature that I have not seen before in the 40 years I have lived here and I don't think it is likely to happen again.

Rustic Cabin

  • 3 of 5

Rustic cabin in a quiet, peaceful setting. Screened in porch offered a great spot for reading and relaxing. One evening we saw a deer running along the marsh. Internet connection was very reliable. For anyone with any physical limitations this is not the spot for them. Both bedrooms are upstairs with the bathroom downstairs. Bedrooms get very hot during the day but do cool down at night with the help of a fan. Queen size bed is not very comfortable but twin beds are ok.

Owner's Response: August 2016 has been an unusually hot summer and especially the week this guest was here. I have never heard anyone else mention the bed being uncomfortable and I have repeat guests every year who have never mentioned it, but I will check it out and replace it if necessary.

Perfect and updated

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in Sagadahoc many times and always love it. This year the furniture is updated and really made a difference. We enjoyed an amazing week. We rented kayaks onsite and went out on the Back River almost daily, a great way to see the area. Back River Bend is perfectly situated for beaches, hiking, biking, and great eating adventures. Booked for 2017...❤️

Very nice cottage with great views of the river

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is cozy, clean, and well maintained. The screened porch overlooking the river is a big plus. It's suitable for a short stay or a long-term vacation rental. We definitely recommend it.
