Antigua Highlands was selected by an airline Captain who had traveled the world for its beautiful view of one of the 'Best Beaches in the World' (CondeNast and others), Half Moon Bay. All villa rooms are ocean view. Two large bedrooms with en suite baths both open up on to roofed veranda with ocean views. A Full kitchen opens up to provide an ocean view bar. The villa's stone work was done by a Master Antiguan Mason recognized nationally for his craft. The stone BBQ is set next to an additional outdoor roofed dining area. The villa is maintained beautifully by a staff of gardener and housekeeper who provide fresh flowers and clean laundry included in your stay. Enjoy Caribbean lunches at Harrys Beach Bar next to Half Moon Bay Beach. Beautiful snorkeling and an almost empty mile long beach await you. This is the Caribbean that few get to experience. Our villa is now managed by the Captains son who is an award winning Hotelier. Our villa is underpriced because we prefer it to be occupied and enjoyed. Many return guests have left testimonials which we are happy to share.

Fantastic Loaction, so relaxing

Can't thank Alan enough for the opportunity for our family to stay in such a wonderful, secluded and relaxing villa. Elerene welcomed us on arrival, and was so helpful throughout the week. We loved exploring the Island (car rental is a must) and spending time down the road at Half Moon Bay. The beach restaurants there were pretty busy, so service was a bit slow and we didn't feel great value for money, but they were very friendly. Highly recommend the Roadhouse for value and great local cuisine. We did the ziplining and Eco boat Tour, both very enjoyable. Explored some other beaches but you can't beat Half Moon Bay! Cooked in the new kitchen a couple of nights and mornings (what a view!) and ate out in English Harbor and a few other spots throughout the island the other nights. We'd love to come back some time!

Fantastic stay

Our small family had a fantastic week at this property over the 2017 Christmas period.

The property isn't trying to be a super-luxurious villa - rather you are staying in an obviously well-loved home showing lots of personal touches. It's well-equipped with a new kitchen. Bedrooms are large and comfortable with plenty of storage. There are 2 bathrooms with showers that are perfectly adequate. The layout is unusual with a connecting storage room between the bathroom of one bedroom and the other bedroom, but it's not an issue. The living area is large and comfortable. There's no A/C but with consistent sea breezes and good ventilation this was never an issue and going to sleep at night with the sound of the breeze and the surf and no A/C noise was rather nice.

There's lots of outside space with seating areas all around.

The location of the property is stunning. The view of half-moon bay is peerless! It's a 2 minute drive to the beach. You can walk it too, but it's a fair old uphill back to the house! The beach itself is just fabulous and the Beach Bum cafe is good and open every day (even Christmas day).

This end of the island is relative quiet, which we loved. You will need a car, in which case you're about 20 minutes drive from the Nelson's dockyard area and a further 20 minutes over Fig Tree drive and onto the west coast.

We wouldn't hesitate to go back to this property.

Private house with ocean breezes

The view, ocean breezes, and sounds of the ocean below were great. There was always a breeze through the house so it was very pleasant. There is a nice-sized yard which my children enjoyed too. Half Moon Bay is a 2 minute drive and the beach is nice with waves in the middle of the bay and calm beaches to the left side. The new kitchen was nice and the pictures of the house accurately represented the space. The house was a nice size for our family of five, and the beds were comfortable. A few problems we had: 1. We lost power for four hours and the generator did not kick on. We had brought flashlights but it was difficult having three kids and only a few flashlights. I contacted the owner who did his best to help. 2. To go to the second bedroom, you have to go through the bathroom in the master bedroom. We made it work but this was definitely not ideal with kids. 3. The neighbors across the street brought in fumigators and twice around 5 p.m. (when we were home), the strong fumes would blow into the house and into the second bedroom which was closest to the street. We kept the doors close and made sure the kids were not in the back room but the smell was still there. 4. It's nice having a house keeper but, being a parent and constantly cleaning up after kids, we didn't need it. We only needed her to come once during the week but she didn't seem comfortable with that. We negotiated three days during the week. When she came, she would show up at 8:15 a.m. We were always up early but, if you want to sleep in and have a leisurely morning, this could be a problem for you.

Owner's Response: 1.Power was out for the entire island for a few hours. As soon as we received the report that our generator had not kicked on, we contacted the service company and the renter. When the service company came out the computer identified that the generator had run its weekly test the day before and everything was fine, but someone? turned off the fuel line to the generator earlier in the day that the power went out. No one else was on the property but the family of five to include three active children. Guests should make sure no one has changed any settings on any equipment as they have safety switches which may compromise their ability to operate. 2. The bedrooms were set up as connecting bedrooms for safety and security and ease of access to children. The second bedroom has its own door to the veranda and access to the rest of the house along the veranda as well as through the connecting door to the master. One doesn't need to go through the master bathroom to access the second bedroom or through the master bedroom to access the rest of the home. 3. We have no control over when our neighbors decide to spray. However all homes and hotels do spray weekly at a minimum in the tropics to control insects. Our villa was sprayed before these guests arrived and after they left. We are fortunate to be on the windward side of the island. Hotels and guest houses on the leeward side of Caribbean islands must spray every day at dusk. 4.The housekeeper's presence is necessary not only for the house work and guest laundry that needs to be done, but also for the safety and security of the guests and to improve their experience. Part of her responsibility is to ensure that the generator can run when needed. She also re-supplies toilet paper, towels, light bulbs, etc. She usually arrives around 8 am to take care of chores outside (watering plants, sweeping, and laundry) but does not enter until guests are up and about. (similar to all resort destination housing) The laundry room access is outside the main house and guests could leave their laundry basket in the laundry room if they would like her to begin taking care of their laundry items upon her arrival.

Best view. House is good base for the area.

It's not 5 diamond, but the location is top notch if you're looking to get away from the tourist. Beach is an 8 minute walk down the hill. Never more than ten people on the beach, and usually less. Beds slept well. Deck chair view is the best view of the Bay of anything around. Two beach restaurants within walking distance are adequate for a few meals. Tourist/resort type restaurants are about 30 minutes away. If you plan to cook at the house, the kitchen is only for minimal meals.

Owner's Response: As it happens our kitchen is undergoing a complete remodeling as I write this. New classic beachy tile floors have replaced the former ones. All new hardwood cabinets with hand painted knobs and self-closing hinges have been installed. The stone countertop is both easy to maintain and provides great functionality. All new appliances are being installed to include, ss wall oven, cook top, dishwasher, ss toater oven, coffee-maker, tea kettle, blender, and bullet to make your favorite Caribbean cocktails or smoothies. This gourmet kitchen also overlooks the Bay as new trifold windowed doors with ss hinges open up so you can entertain your guests at the bar while cooking. The two beach bars actually provide some of the best food on the island. Check out Beach Bum Cafe on any social website to read the rave reviews. They will also deliver dinner right to our guests in our villa. Ask Tippi for a lobster dinner, fresh mahi mahi, or roti and be prepared to think you are dining in a gourmet restaurant.. I am currently eating two meals a day there as I am in the middle of my kitchen renovation. Local private chefs from some of the multi million dollar homes surrounding us come to eat at the Beach Bum Cafe when they are off. Tell Tippi and Avery Professor Alan sent you from Antigua Highlands

Great House--With a view to die for

The property was wonderful and our family enjoyed the visit. The house is on the eastern side of the island and provided the privacy we were looking for. Half Moon Bay beach is one of the best beaches on the island. Alan was great in communicating and addressing our needs. He provided great information beforehand with regards to recommendations for car rental, things to do etc which all comes from his experience of visiting Antigua for many many years. Elerene the housekeeper is phenomenal and it was great having her around. Our family plans to be back soon.

Best view of Half Moon Bay ?

We have just enjoyed a weeks holiday overlooking Half Moon Bay. One of the worlds most beautiful beaches. Upon arrival we received a friendly greeting from the house maid who showed us the property and facilities. She made up the house every day for us - luxury! Just what you need on holiday. The house is roomy (sleeps 6) with plenty of different rooms/areas /balconies to retire to from the sun and/or rest of the family when needed. We enjoyed being able to sit outside and use the barbecue in the evenings and watch sun up at 0635 in the mornings. Due to location on hillside, we enjoyed a nice cool breeze and were not bothered by mosquitos nor lack of airconditioning (not needed). The house is a five minute drive (10 minute walk) to the beach. We took the liberty of borrowing the sun chairs when new went to the beach. Perfect. At the beach are two well run beach cafes/bars with a variety of drinks and lunch options. Very convenient - but cash only - no cards. Areas for improvement - the kitchen was fully functional and clean, but would benefit from an upgrade. Wifi was more off than on - but this is not uncommon in Antigua. Besides - who needs internet when you are on holiday and have the beach. We hope to return in the not to distant future.
