Overview

Photos and Description of this Fletcher holiday cottage

A little bit industrial loft, a little bit rustic retreat, a little bit country cottage -- our guesthouse is perfect for one or two couples, with or without children in tow. Open-concept living/dining/kitchen with polished concrete floors and tall, wood-beamed ceilings. Immaculate. Beautifully finished and furnished, down to luxurious 400TC 100% cotton linens and towels. This guesthouse is straight out of Country Living Magazine.

On ten acres in a truly pastoral neighborhood just south of Asheville. Secluded and nestled in the woods, yet flooded with natural light. Completely private, fenced rose and boxwood garden provides outdoor lounging, dining and fire-siding (firewood and fire starters are provide for all of our guests). Hot water tap in the garden for hillbilly hot-tubbing (kids only!).

Green & allergen-free. Low or No-VOC paints used throughout. Organic, unscented cleaning and laundry products used exclusively. Natural fiber rugs, upholstery and window treatments. Slip-covered upholstery, frequently laundered. No pets of any kind ever inside the home.

Completely tobacco-free, we also ask that our guests go without aerosols, perfumes, and other scented products during their stay. AC with top-of-the-line filter. Fresh organic and/or local treats only stocked for your enjoyment. DirecTV package includes ESPN.

Family is on the property, out-of-site, but close enough if you need a restaurant recommendation! Our guests' serenity and privacy is our number one priority. The guesthouse is a legal, permitted apartment -- with wired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire dampers, etcetera.

Access: 15-20 minutes to downtown Asheville and the Biltmore. Ten minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway hiking trail heads. Renowned road and mountain biking literally right out your door.

Traveling with young kid(s): We've got a roll-out bed for the little one, plus indoor and outdoor toys for all ages. Drop us a line and we'll prepare for his or her arrival. Kids on the spectrum are especially welcome!

Traveling with a baby or toddler: We are baby/toddler ready! We set up a pack-n-play (purchased new annually) with organic bedding for sleeping. Plus, we've got an infant-to-toddler tub that sits right in the shower, baby's own hooded towel, a high chair and/or toddler seat, and a swing for our littles travelers.

Why Johanna Carr chose Asheville Area

The property offers the ideal mountain experience: Gorgeous views, without the falling-over-a-cliff landscape which usually accompanies it! Secluded, rolling hills dotted with cows, yet close to downtown. Farmland punctuated by mountain and equestrian homes. We've never had a visitor who hasn't commented on the serenity and the beauty of our property.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I visited Asheville for our anniversary, and we were hoping for a peaceful get-away, with plenty of design esthetic that was still close enough to the city & sights for us to take it all in. This cottage was that dream come true. Every single detail of this home is so perfectly thought out! We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The home was immaculate when we arrived. There was a thoughtful welcome packet to help us feel at home, and familiarize us with the area. She had a fire-pit prepared for arrival - so on our first night, we sliced the delicious pound cake she left us, made some hot chocolate with the packets and local cream she left and started a cozy fire on the porch to cuddle up next to. It was the perfect way to start our trip!

We experienced everything you'd hope for when you rent a home. Perfectly clean, absolutely comfortable, great design elements, with complete privacy. Not to mention the perfect natural light that all of the windows gather up for you.

Johanna was very responsive when we had any questions or requests, including graciously providing plenty of suggestions for restaurants, shops and sights. If we make it out to Asheville again, there's no question where we're staying.

Above and Beyond

My husband and I have always preferred staying in vacation rentals while traveling, but now that we have a baby, a clean, comfortable, spacious rental is a must. This rental is absolutely immaculate! From the polished concrete floors to the beautiful counters in the kitchen and the sparkling white bathroom, I had no reservations about letting my 9 month old crawl all over the place and explore his temporary home.

A vacation rental such as this far exceeds a hotel room when traveling with a baby. The exceptionally accommodating owner made sure we had all the comforts of home, including a brand new pack and play (with sheets), an infant bath tub, a high chair, and a changing table. Other thoughtful touches included a package of baby wipes in the changing table and several baby books displayed on the windowsill near the crib. It made traveling with a baby so easy! There were also locally made muffins and scones, yogurt, and even k-cups for the coffee maker (cream and sugar provided as well). It was so nice not to have to worry about running out in the morning to find a store and purchase these things on day one. The kitchen is well-equipped and we prepared several meals there.

The rental is spacious and beautiful. Having a separate bedroom where we could put our baby to sleep in the evenings so that my husband and I could enjoy the evening relaxing by the fire pit or watching tv, without having to tiptoe and whisper was wonderful. We were all so comfortable, we really didn't want to leave!

The owner and her family are fabulous people. They truly want their guests to feel at home. They are available if/when you need them, but completely respect your privacy otherwise. The rental is even nicer than the pictures demonstrate. The value of this place is incredible. My family and I love to travel and don't often visit the same place twice, but the beauty of Asheville and the comfort and ease of travel the farmhouse provides has convinced us to return this summer. Thanks Johanna and family!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Erin! We had been waiting for the opportunity to outfit the guesthouse for infants and toddlers, and your family provided. We know from experience what a schlep traveling with baby stuff is. Not having to bring one's own pack-n-play, and having a changing table sounded like heaven to us; we're glad you agree! We look forward to seeing you in July.

Perfect mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

I recently visited the Farmhouse for a girls trip with friends from college. It was the perfect space for us and we loved the decor. Our host was wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed and then some. Follow up after our visit was great as well, as we had mistakenly left a few items. The communication to get the items returned was more than I would have expected. I very highly recommend this property and owner and look forward to returning in the future.

great in every way

  • 5 of 5

Truly enjoyed our stay here. Everything was clean and very inviting. The location was the perfect distance away from all the places we wanted to visit (mostly in Asheville). We felt very comfortable in the house and the guest area was private enough. The decor was perhaps my favorite...very inspired! We would highly recommend staying here.

Our Favorite Place

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay here, and it just seems to get better each visit. The home is spotless, beautifully decorated and comfortable. Johanna is a wonderful host - with fresh eggs, creamer and goodies upon arrival. The goats, chickens and dogs are also very welcoming : ). We cook a lot while we're there, and the kitchen is stocked with everything you may need. Asheville is a short drive away, as was as the Biltmore, Sierra Nevada, hiking, and many other things to do. The home is attached to the owner's main house, but is completely private. We can't wait to go back again soon!
