About Tammy Capps

Tammy is from North Carolina and has directed non-profit youth programs and a local AmeriCorps program. She is currently starting a new business called Senior Care Management of WNC.

Both Carmen and Tammy work to be good stewards of the land, these mountains and our mother earth: growing our own fruits and vegetables, preserving them for the winter, recycling and composting all garbage, trying to reuse instead of buying new when possible. Efforts are always made to buy local and American made products.

After a great deal of planning and hard work, Carmen and Tammy are excited to invite you for a luxurious, romantic stay in our new cabin!

Tammy Capps purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Tammy Capps chose Asheville Area

Tammy and her ex-partner, Carmen planned and built this cabin with their own two hands, while continuing to work full-time. It took two years! Starting with the goal of building a cabin with a small carbon footprint and utilizing green building techniques the two women started the project. WOW, what a project! A local builder got us off to an amazing start. With lots and lots of hard work and the loving support of our families the cabin was completed in August, 2012.

Why the property? Tammy spent most of her childhood in this area and fell in love with the beauty and majesty of these mountains in the Pisgah National Forest at an early age. When looking to move back to the area and purchase a home in 1991, she would only look at homes in the Candler/Upper Hominy area believing this to be the most beautiful community in the Asheville area. Twenty years ago Tammy began to clear land and landscape the 4-acre property. The project was worth it, as it is now a mountain oasis beyond belief.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin provides all of the modern comforts in a peaceful wooded setting at the base of Mt. Pisgah. The fall and winter views of the mountain through the large glass windows are spectacular. The wooded canopy of oaks, poplar and maple cover the mountain view during the summer months, and provide cool shade for relaxing outside on the deck or patio.

The cabin was built so that passive solar would assist the heating and cooling. In addition, NC made eco panels, rostra block and other sustainable products were used as our building materials making it very well insulated, so it will use very little energy. The tankless water heater and radiant floor heat are also eco-friendly ways to conserve energy while allowing our guests to try out these new 'green' products out for themselves.

The 100 year old oak barnwood posts and inside trim throughout the cabin took several months to pull rusted nails, plane and refinish. The wood was purchased in Candler for $100.

The cabin is centrally located to so many diverse day-trip activities. There is something for everyone here!

  • 4 of 5

Very much enjoyed our 4 day stay in this lovely cabin. Would definitely go back another time. Everything you could possibly need was provided. Robes, towels, all necessary appliances and comfortable furniture. Interesting rock flooring in the shower and bathroom area. We would recommend this cabin to anyone thinking about staying in the beautiful mountains of NC!

Simply Amazing...Romantic, Secluded, Perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for our First Anniversary and truly did not want to leave!! First of all, the location could not be more perfect. It is relatively close to Asheville (about 30 minutes), but outside of the city and in a very private, wooded area. The cabin itself is amazing! It is very clean and well decorated, with a nice, open layout and everything you could possibly need (all we had to bring were our groceries). We especially loved all of the windows...with the wooded view and being able to open them to feel the cool air and hear all of the nature around was breathtaking. And with the hot tub, fire pit and hiking trails right outside the door, we really didn't want to go anywhere else during our stay! In fact, we only left the cabin to go out for dinner. Tammy was so pleasant to work with and she truly thought of everything...she even had relaxing, classical music playing in the background when we arrived. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this cabin....we WILL be back, soon!!

Mountain retreat

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I booked this mountain retreat for our mini moon enroute from our wedding destination back home to Chicago. It was exactly as described in the listing. We knew it would be a mountain retreat, but we really felt too cut off from the world. We enjoyed our time, but will most likely stay downtown next time as the drive was further than expected (mostly winding back roads). A few things to consider: there is no cell phone service for several miles. The wifi at the cabin does work great, though. Also, we have a Jeep Grand Cherokee altitude edition and the driveway was difficult to navigate. The road to the house is very rocky and steep and the cabin driveway is very steep and rocky. I was too scared to attempt the driveway.

The kitchen is very well stocked, we cooked at home one evening, and always cooked breakfast at the cabin and enjoyed drinking coffee on our porch. There is a wonderful backpack for hiking. We went to the Arboretum and hiked with our dog.

Overall, the cabin is lovely and perfect if you need to escape the world. But if you're looking for a retreat without compromising city conveniences, this may not be the cabin for you.

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. It is a wonderful year round retreat and the view is wonderful this time of year. It is 17 miles west of downtown Asheville, so if you live in a city, this can be a drive. We have had no problems with our guests accessing the cabin in small cars with no 4-wheel drive. If you have not driven on a gravel road before, I suppose it could be different for you. There have been a few folks who park at the top of the drive after unloading and walk the 75 feet to the cabin. I am sorry that you had a difficult time with the drive. Peace Always, Tammy

Restful, Relaxing, Rejuvenating...RETURNING!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were thrilled with our stay at Tammy's cabin. Not only is the property outrageously beautiful, but the cabin is prepared for everything we needed and may have forgotten (like plastic bags for hiking lunches)! We were within so many incredible hikes and waterfalls (check out Sliding Rock--there is a fee for this one, Looking Glass Falls and Looking Glass Rock, Moore Cove Falls, Triple Falls, High Falls, Hooker Falls....) and there are trails that lead to Pisgah Forest right from the cabin. This was a great distance from Asheville (close enough, but far enough to enjoy a bit of a drive on the Parkway) that we enjoyed a few nights in town (The Lobster Trap and French Broad Chocolate Lounge are two of our favorite spots). We would absolutely return. Tammy was incredibly helpful both prior to and during our stay. She helped with questions about the hot tub, grill, and fireplace--she is awesome!!

Car: necessary

Only 16 miles from downtown Asheville our cabin is located beside the Pisgah National Forest.

Hiking trails are abundant only minutes away on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

March to November you can enjoy breakfast at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A favorite downtown shopping spot in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynseville is Mast General Store.

Our favorite restaurants are the Admiral and Curate', you must make reservations early though.
