About this property

Beautiful Lake & Mountain Views, 2 Acres, Large Deck, RMNP

Welcome to our family friendly Hilltop mountain home! We are just 2 miles outside of Rocky Mountain National Park and a mile and a half from the quaint Village of Grand Lake. Our ski-chalet style home offers the escape of a mountain get-away with the comforts of home. Enjoy the spectacular views of Shadow Mountain Lake, Grand Lake and the inspiring Indian Peaks from our large wrap-around deck or from the cozy, comfy couches in the spacious family room. Large picture windows throughout the main level allow for tremendous views no matter where you’re relaxing.

Our home is approximately 2,000 sq. feet and sits on two acres of beautiful land. We have two family rooms which make it nice for a larger family or 2 smaller ones. Cozy up to the fire, play board games, do puzzles or have a serious game of poker at the game table adjacent to the main floor family room & kitchen. There is plenty of room for everyone to do their relaxing.

Our downstairs bedroom has a king bed and a twin bed and makes a great space for the kids and our two bedrooms up-stairs, both have king size beds and allow for parent privacy. The kitchen is roomy and easy to work in with everything you may need to prepare a great meal. Sit round our large dining room table or take it outside & BBQ and enjoy the beautiful mountain sunsets while dining outdoors.

Whether you are planning a good old-fashioned family vacation or a romantic mountain get-away, our home offers the perfect escape! We have a picturesque fire pit with large log seats and plenty of firewood to roast those marshmallows all night long.

Wildlife visit us often. Moose, elk, deer, foxes & a variety of birds are regular entertainment. Or, walk up the road and see if you can sneak-a-peek at the moose that linger in the willows around the pond just a short distance from the house. If you're up for more of an adventure drive into Rocky Mountain National Park where you are sure to see nature at it’s finest.

The Village of Grand Lake offers all the dining selections you could want, everything from fine dining to pizza & burgers. Or pack a picnic and enjoy the beach in town or rent kayaks and hunt out a place on Shadow Mountain Lake. There is everything from hiking, fishing, putt-putt, horseback riding, mountain biking, ATV’s, snowmobile, cross-country skiing, golfing, water-skiing, sailing, most likely anything that makes you happy on a mountain vacation. Or, how about just meandering the shops along the boardwalk and stopping for ice-cream & fudge!

Our location offers the perfect compromise to “getting away” but yet having it all! Everything you would want is available in the summer and for the winter vacation you can snowmobile right in town or get to downhill skiing at either Sol Vista in Granby or go a little further to the nationally known Winter Park & Mary Jane.

Year round, we know you will enjoy our Hilltop mountain home!

Location, Location, Location!!
My family and I had a wonderful stay in this cabin over Labor Day weekend! Jennifer, the owner, was very pleasant and responsive. The views of the lake and mountains from the windows and balcony are breathtaking and we loved the fire pit! We had a fire every night and watched the gorgeous sunsets from around the fire. The location of this house is ideal - so close to Rocky Mountain Nat'l. Park, Estes, and Grand Lake with so much so see and do!

Quiet Get-a-way
Lovely property with a large fire pit. Plenty of woods to explore and see some wildlife. The house itself is older, but charming and clean. Our family enjoyed the stay. It was wonderful to have our dogs with us. Minutes from Grand Lake and many family friendly hikes.

Great views, spacious, & secluded
This 3-level house has lots of space for big groups (there were 8 of us + a pup), giving everyone room to breathe or join together for games & meals. Far enough from towm has you out of the hustle and bustle but close enough to run in and explore Grand Lake. Spent a lot of time on the balcony with views of the lake & the "hidden" deck was nice to relax on. Plenty of sleeping options (even the couch was used overnight) and a decent size kitchen for cooking meals. Would recommend, especially if you have a large party & are not wanting to break the bank to accommodate said group.

Great stay
This is a wonderful cabin. Very roomy, very clean and well stocked with everything one would need for a home away from home. Just minutes away from shadow mountain and grand lake. Our family enjoyed our stay and would recommended to anyone going to grand lake or Rocky mountain

About the host

Hosted by Jennifer Banks

Host profile image
David and Jennifer Banks have owned Hilltop since 2004. Prior to 2019, they co-owned the property with Jennifer’s sister, Susan Fenske and her husband, Lance. Jennifer and Susan wanted a place where they could share lifetime memories together with their families. In the past 20 years, they and their families have made those lasting memories and enjoyed lots of good times.

They love just hanging out and relaxing at the house, hiking, canoeing, and picnicking on the shores of Shadow Mountain Lake. It wouldn't be a family gathering without a well-thought-out weekend of yummy food and meals to prepare. Nothing says family like sitting around the dining room table enjoying good times together! Lance and David relax by minding the property, including thinning the many Lodgepole Pine trees found on the two-acre secluded lot. Chainsaws, Yes! They have built a large fire pit and two new decks (including the most rent “Blue Bird Deck” in 2020, with its breathtaking views of the lakes, the town of Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park).

Lance loves nodding off on warm summer afternoons during the fifth inning of Colorado Rockies baseball games. The kids (grown now and including one grandson) love the laid-back feel of Grand Lake, and love coming up to 'get-away' from the stresses of life.

Family is number one with us, and our mountain home helps us keep that a priority!

Won’t you please help us continue writing that story?

Why they chose this property

We've been coming up to Grand Lake for nearly 40 years. David & his family have owned their family cabin since the early 1980s. We love that the area is so close to Rocky Mountain National Park, and also love that Grand Lake doesn't have a chain restaurant or street light. We love the beauty of the lakes immediately adjacent to the mountains. Add that to the charm of the boardwalk village of Grand Lake, and we find our slice of heaven.

What makes this property unique

Fabulous Firepit with lots of log seating & beautiful views!
