Tappan Lake Area: Sunny, peaceful Cottage with Fishing Pond on 13 Gorgeous Acres

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Sunny and New 2BR 1BA Family Cottage with full kitchen.

Cozy but roomy fully-furnished two bedroom cottage on a heartbreakingly beautiful 13 acre lot in Ohio's rolling Amish country. Located in the picturesque Victorian town of Deersville, five to ten minutes drive from fishing and boating on both Tappan Lake and Lake Clendenning and twenty-five minutes drive from the bustling burg of New Philadelphia, Fleming's Family Cottage is a peaceful, private haven.

Sunlight pours in through the skylight in the huge upstairs bedroom, which features a comfy queen bed and a twin bed separated by a low partition. Two huge closets and a dresser invite you to stay for a while; An overstuffed chair and ottoman tempt you to sit and read or take a nap; A desk and chair with a tree laden window view beckons you to write or think; And a TV nook stocked with videotapes gives the kids something to do when they're tuckered out from their day at the lake.

Downstairs, an elegant bedroom with a queen sized bed, a private window, dresser and roomy closet, connects to a bright, contemporary bathroom, with tub and shower and lots of cupboards. A bright and spacious modern eat-in kitchen looks out onto the stunning front lawn. The living room, with it's high ceilings, is comfortable and gracious, its window also framing the rolling, tree-graced lawn.

But though the house is wonderfully inviting, you'll find yourself drawn to wander the beautiful forested property. Dotted with tall fir trees, maples and willow trees, the property is breathtakingly beautiful in every season. A winding, tree-shaded path leads you to a large, cattail-fringed private pond stocked with fish. Dragonflies zigzag in the warm spring and summer air. Further down the path, an old two-room log cabin (under repair, the happy project of the property's owner), built at the turn of the last century, intrigues you.

Deer, safe from hunters on this land, dart in and out of the foliage, watching you as you follow the path up and over large and ancient rock formations, and make your way into a dense forest. Surrounded by whispering trees, and the occasional tap-tap-whirr of a woodpecker's beak tapping into hard wood, you will visibly relax. At night, the stars fill the sky, owls hoot, and pond frogs peep in a loud chorus, lulling you to an easy sleep.

Amenities: Washer and Dryer, refrigerator, new stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, garbage disposal, Direct TV. VCR and videotape library, books, board games, BBQ.,picnic table, Air Conditioning. Sheets and towels provided.

Activities: Two minute's walk from the Deersville Country Store and their famous homemade ice-cream. Five to ten minutes drive from boating and fishing on the majestic Tappan or Clendenning Lakes, where you can rent a boat and swim, water-ski or fish.

The acreage on the property itself invites hiking; the large private pond is stocked with fish just waiting to be caught. For an excellent lunch and a tour of the Railroad Museum, visit Depot Town, fifteen minutes drive away in Dennison. New Philadelphia, with it's coffee houses, shops, movie theaters, restaurants and busy summer entertainment schedule, is a scenic 25 minute drive away. 45 Minutes to an hour away is the heart of Ohio's famous Amish Country. Deersville is on the Register of Historical Places, and is one hour south of Akron, Ohio and one hour West of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Deersville Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We took our 2 kids for a few days to check out Deersville, Tappan Lake and the Clendening Lake area. Great location if you want to visit any of those places. The property was fantastic. Jim was extremely responsive and helpful. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

Just an awesome beautiful piece of property!

  • 5 of 5

This is an awesome place for a family get away especially if you have small children and a dog. My wife, grand kid and out two dogs had a great time. The cottage was warm and cozy and had everything that you would need. The property is absolutely beautiful. We walked the property at least once a day and I couldn't get my grand kid away from the pond even in the snow and 28 degree weather. Our dogs had as much fun as everyone else and were ready for bed early every night. The old General Store on Main Str. is a great place to visit and I do have to say that the ice cream isn't to bad either lol. Jim was very responsive and just a true please to work with. We will definitely be back for another visit. Jim Thanks for opening your beautiful home and property to us. Joe, Carolyn, Noah, Emma and Hazie (Lake Anna, Virginia)

Deersville OH Cottage in February

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary along with our two adult children, and we all enjoyed the cottage as well as the southeast Ohio region. The fact that our Chesapeake Bay Retriever was welcome at the cottage was also a big factor. There's plenty of "roaming" to do on the 13 acres, which are dominate by a very large and tall hill. The cottage was clean, warm and cozy. It's not quite a "bath-and-a-half," but the extra toilet in the utility room came in handy. We also visited and enjoyed the nearby city of Cadiz and Harrison State Forest. The cottage owner, Jim, and I shared several email messages prior to our trip. Jim is very accommodating and informative. We'll definitely return to his Deersville cottage, probably during warmer weather.

Everything was Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just as described with much more! Very clean, spacious and all the essentials you would need. The property was gorgeous and the pond was beautiful. We saw several deer on our walks through the woods. The dogs were in heaven with all that room to run and play! In spite of the rain we had an excellent time and the dogs had a blast! Cool cemetery just across the way if you're into history and a nice little store just up the road with whipped Oreo mousse!! The description and pictures just don't do this place justice! Great place to take your family if you just want to get away from it all for a while.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

The Tappan rental was exactly like the description and pictures. We had a great time fishing, shopping and relaxing. The dogs had a lot of fun too. The rooms in the house are very large which was really nice. The house was clean and Jim was great. Anytime I emailed him he got right back to me. I would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in a nice, clean, roomy and reasonably priced vacation home.
