About Wendy Halperin
I, Wendy Anderson Halperin am a children's book illustrator and have artwork from children's books in the house. My husband John is a stone sculptor and storyteller . We work and travel a great deal in the summers because of our work so we love having families enjoy the peace and beauty the lake offers. One daughter is a dancer so we built a dance floor/deck in front of the house . It is also a very nice place to sit, do yoga etc. Our son is a restaurant manager so he built the pizza oven in the east part of the property. Our guests love the adventure of making pizzas outdoors. We have books, recipes and tools to make the experience fun. Our other daughter is a textile designer and so her art is also in the house. If you enjoy hand made this house all about hand made.
Wendy Halperin purchased this House in 1989

Amazing place! Great views! Great host! Will be back :)
We recently stayed at this property for a weekend and had an amazing experience. Communication was always great and check-in was a breeze. Coming from Chicago, it was the perfect getaway, as it truly felt like you were in your own private island at times.
The home itself is big, clean, and beautiful. My daughter (age 10) has a passion for art, and she was in heaven the entire weekend, as every room had a different element of art and creativity. Her favorite part of the trip was when Wendy invited us to an art class on our final day!
The outdoor area was also amazing and tranquil. The kids had a great time with the hammocks, basketball courts, and play areas! My mom messaged me once we checked out, stating that the weekend had a "dream-like" feel to it; I agree!
Sandcastle paradise on the bluff
Our extended family had an amazing time in this comfortable, quirky, beautiful space. We clearly felt the owners’ generosity in sharing their eclectic home and property with us. This is truly a special, magical place that we look forward to revisiting.
We enjoyed our stay the week of 8-17-19 to 8-24-19! Wonderful cheerful kitchen and family room that is perched in the woods and overlooks Lake Michigan. Gorgeous sunsets viewed from the master bedroom, family room and kitchen. We did a yoga class overlooking the lake. Very private. Beautiful vases of fresh flowers in multiple spots. Wish we'd brought young children who would have been mesmerized by the fantastic doll house and toy adorned swing set. Only drawback is the high water level on Lake Michigan that affects the sandy beaches of the lake throughout Michigan and other surrounding states. What a shame not to be able to enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches under all the water! Wendy is warm and welcoming. This is a true gem!
Can't beat the view and yard!
This property was the perfect Lake Michigan family vacation home! We had booked this property mostly for its beach access and were disappointed that the lake levels shrunk all the beaches along the entire coast but in the end, it wasn't a big deal. There were two quiet public beaches each just about 2 miles from the house (where dogs are allowed) plus North Shore beach which is a gigantic, clean, beautiful public beach just a 10 minute drive away (and also surrounded by a fun, beachy downtown district).
The owners of the property were lovely people who did all they could to make our stay enjoyable. The outdoor space of the property was what made this place truly special. It has a huge yard with all kinds of things to keep you entertained and bring the family together. It takes an act of God to get my teenage daughters off their phones at times and they spent LOTS of time outside because there was so much to do. We enjoyed hanging out in the hammocks, playing croquet, bocce ball, yard chess, making pizzas in the outdoor pizza oven, campfires, and best of all, taking in the gorgeous lake view. We loved that there are so many places to sit outside.
The interior of the house is just as pictured and has lots of playful character which was a big winner in the kids' minds. My only complaint is that the kitchen cabinets felt cluttered but I did appreciate how well-stocked it was. I did some pretty intense cooking and baking during our stay and found every kitchen item I needed along the way. I also loved the nearby seasonal market where we could stock up on lots of blueberries (which were in season during our stay) which we made desserts with all week. Yum! Thanks for sharing your property with us!
Located 10 minutes from Downtown South Haven, where you'll find restaurants, shops, a movie theater, big sandy beach and picturesque pier.
The setting at the house is rural and private. It is a short walk to a blueberry and raspberry farm. The lake and grounds are the focus of the setting.
