About Liz Lindenfeld
We are a family from San Diego who absolutely love Maui. Michael and Liz have been visiting since 1980 and decided in 2010 it was finally time to buy! We love Hawaii's tropical beaches, hiking trails, culture, weather, and warm ocean. No trip to Maui is complete without scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, watching hula dancing, or dining on Hawaii's fabulous fresh fish. We named our condo 'Hale Kalela' after our three daughters, whose names translated into Hawaiian are Kelona, Lakela, and Kala.

Why Liz Lindenfeld chose Lahaina
We have always loved West Maui for its lush, tropical landscape, its small coves and bays as well as long sandy beaches, the hustle and bustle of Lahaina with its sense of history along with its restaurants and shops, and in general, the whole feel of West Maui. Kahana Sunset had all the attributes we were looking for in a vacation home. The complex is fairly small, quiet, on a secluded sandy beach, has beautifully landscaped grounds, convenient parking, and easy access to nearby shops, restaurants, hiking, and other amenities.
What makes this Condo unique
We enjoy being able to swim, snorkel, kayak, watch spectacular sunsets, barbecue, and just relax without ever having to leave our complex. We also love our spacious, comfortable, remodeled two-bedroom unit where we wake up to the views and sounds of the ocean, cook in our well-appointed and well-stocked kitchen, and relax inside or outside on our ocean view lanais. Finally, we enjoy being able to walk to nearby shops and restaurants.

Home away from home
This beautiful condo was the perfect home away from home. The view was stunning. The furnishings were better than expected and it provided us with everything we needed. The pictures do not do it justice. We were especially blessed to find a turtle on the beach the first evening. It’s conveniently located close to many amazing must see spots on the island. NO AIR CONDITIONING
Pros: The condo was clean, the beds were comfortable, the view was beautiful. The property (outside) was fantastic, gorgeous views, nice pool, etc. Working with the owner was extremely easy.
Cons: The washer and dryer, located in the master bedroom was insufficient. Both appliances were extremely small and the dryer could not dry more than 2 towels at a time and with no air conditioning all they really did was heat up the room more. Please also note there is no oven in this condo. I guess that really doesn't matter much as you wouldn't be able to use it anyway because once again the heat from the oven would just drive up the heat in the condo.
I'm not sure how I missed that there was no air conditioning in this condo as it is my number 1 priority when looking for accommodations. I have been to Hawaii 6 times in my life and various other hot destinations and have never stayed in a non-air conditioned facility/condo. It was absolutely miserable, the outside temperature highs were mid to high 80's, four days of 90 degrees, and the humidity was an average of 65%. The condo never cooled down, the so called trade winds never blew through this condo once. I have been told that you can rent (1) window air conditioning unit for an additional $50-100 installation and an additional $20.00 per day but then you have to fight over where its going to go unless only one couple is staying in this unit. Needless to say we will not be renting this condo again.
I'm glad Debbie found the condo clean and comfortable, the view beautiful, the pool nice, and the condo complex grounds fantastic. I'm sorry the heat was an issue. No, the unit is not air conditioned, but we make no secret of that, and we price our unit accordingly. Yes, portable a/c units can be rented for an additional fee from our property manager if desired. We do have ceiling fans in every room and screens on every window and door. Often, that is sufficient. Unfortunately, the heat was extremely high in Hawaii this summer and fall, and the usual trade winds did not blow sufficiently to cool the condo down. Like many condo owners, we have begun researching installing a/c and hope to have it by next summer. No, there is no built-in full sized oven, but there is a counter top convection oven. It's large enough to cook a small chicken or a normal sized quick bread. Since the complex has several outdoor grills, most guests have not missed a large oven. The washer and dryer are standard closet-sized stackable units. All amenities are clearly listed on our Vrbo webpage, and we encourage all guests to read it carefully so that they understand what our unit does and does not have.
We really liked that it was not a really busy place, very clean, BBQ’s cleaned daily, turtles off shore and one time on shore.
Loved having extra fans in rooms.
Great spacious rental but NO AC!
We rented this place for our friends bachelorette trip & it was very spacious for the seven of us. The location is secluded with a private beach which was really nice. The only downside was that there was no ac in the unit. It was extremely hot that we had to rent a portable ac unit which they only allowed you to rent 1. It was only able to be in the living room/master bedroom which was difficult since the rest of the house was very hot & had everyone sweating pretty much the whole time. There was minimal breeze that would come through. But overall our stay was pretty good!
I'm very glad Taylor and her friends found our condo to be spacious enough for her group and that they enjoyed our complex's seclusion and beach. I'm sorry they were uncomfortable without A/C. Our condo has never had it, and we have never advertised having it. A thorough check of our condo's listed amenities will show that A/C is not listed. We do have ceiling fans in every room and screens on every window and door. Often, indeed for much of the year, those and Hawaii's trade winds can provide a sufficient cooling breeze, but on the occasions where guests are uncomfortable, our property manager will independently offer for rental portable A/C units, when they have such units available. They have a limited supply, and it seems that only one unit was available during Taylor and her friends' stay. The property manager had to install the one unit either in the living room or master bedroom, and I completely understand that one unit will have difficulty cooling the entire 950 sq. foot two-bedroom condo.
My best advice to future guests who require A/C is to inquire in advance if they're not sure whether our condo has it. I will always tell them it does not. If they still decide to book, they should ask me before their arrival date about renting portable A/C units so I can contact my property manager in sufficient time to see if I can reserve any that he might have available to rent to them. My goal is to provide my guests with the most enjoyable experience I can while they are in my condo, and even though I can't give them central A/C, I can try to get them portable rental units when possible.
We truly enjoyed the property amenities, comfort, view, and location! Just right for our family!
