Charming unique private house overlooking pastures near Amsterdam

Bedrooms 2

Space 170 m²
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 4

Our holiday home is situated in the countryside on a dike next to the picturesque river “Het Gein”. A typical Dutch surrounding where you can bike and walk. In the summertime you can swim in the river Het Gein.

Amsterdam is very nearby: with a bike it takes you 5 minutes to subway station Gein, which takes you in 20 minutes to the center of Amsterdam. With a car you can drive in 5 minutes to the P+R subway station of Gaasperplas or to the train station Abcoude. And in 15 minutes you drive to the center of Amsterdam.

Because our house is so centrally situated, all big tourist sites are within an hour drive, such as Keukenhof, Zaanse Schans, Haarlem, Volendam, Marken, The Hague, Hoge Veluwe, Utrecht and the 'Venice of the North' : Giethoorn etc etc.

The summerhouse of our farm, which was built in 1865, is situated just 200m from the city border of Amsterdam. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms each with an individual bath room, there is a living and a large kitchen with dining table. The folding doors brings you to the big private garden which gives you a panoramic view to the surrounding pastures with grazing sheep and cows. On the second floor you will find a very spacious loft-like lounge area and large dining table with fire place. There is also a tv with dvd player.

The house has a rich history: until the 60’s the summerhouse was a cattle shed with hay-loft and the farm was leased by various farmers families. Later the land was sold by the Amsterdam municipality to the famous Dutch sculptor Nel van Lith. On the old hay-loft she gave sculptor lessons to our former Queen Beatrix. From 1995 a garden architect lived here and she designed the English/French romantic garden that is still intact today.

344517 - Farm house overlooking pastures outside Amsterdam

My wife and I have travelled quite a bit and always rent apartments or condos whenever our stay is for a few days or more. This charming cottage located a few kilometers from Abcoude along a one lane road which follows a canal on each side with old farm houses with lots of sheep, cows and horses and wind-mills scattered here and there is the most charming place we have ever rented. A five to seven minute drive brings you to the Abcoude train station which leads to Amsterdam Central station in less than 25 minutes in one direction or a few minutes more to Rotterdam in the other. Stephany, the owner was very helpful and accommodating. All and all, a five star rating for sure

Wonderful farmhouse close to Amsterdam

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and another couple stayed at this farmhouse recently and it was great. Such a peaceful setting as everywhere you look out your windows is country. It is also within 20 minutes walking to the metro train station and a 20 minute ride on the train to the center of Amsterdam. We would definitely stay there again and our hosts, Stephanie and Raymond were very helpful on things to see and do in the area.

Everything in the description and more! Stephanie was an amazing host.

  • 5 of 5

After busy days traversing Holland's beautiful sites and cities, returning to the peace and tranquility of Get Hein was just what we needed. Waking up to rural Holland with windmills and sheep pasturing in the field seemed a bit surreal - especially because we could be in the city in less than 1/2 hr. The place is as described. No surprises. Waking up to farm fresh eggs, cheese, milk was a real treat for all of us. Although Stephanie lives right next door, she respected our privacy but was there for any advice or concern. Although the floors were heated (a very nice touch) the place was a little cool, so dress for it.

Perfect !

  • 5 of 5

This private house was perfect for our family. The description of the listing was very accurate. We loved having a washing machine for laundry. The house was spacious, clean and well-equipped. Stephanie was the perfect host. She was attentive but, not too attentive. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property to family and friends.

Netherlands in the spring

  • 5 of 5

This lovely cottage was even better than what we expected! My husband and I, along with our daughter and her husband spent 2 weeks here over Easter. The property is located only a 25 minute drive from Amsterdam, but feels very rural and peaceful. We enjoyed shopping for groceries in the nearby town of Weesp, which has an Albert Hein and a Daan in the same small shopping mall. We loved the fresh squeezed orange juice from Daan! Also, fresh eggs, cheese, butter, and milk were available from a neighbor farm a 5 minute walk down the road. While we were there we were given a tour of the barns, which included 3 day old lambs! What a treat! The house itself is very spacious with 2 bedrooms, each with their own en suite bath, a large kitchen/dining area and sitting room on the main floor, as well as a large living/dining area on the second floor. We spent most evenings having a late dinner in front of a cozy, warm fire! Stephanie was a very gracious host, living right next door. If we needed anything, she was there to help us. The back yard has a beautiful garden which was just starting to come alive with daffodils and several other flowers. The yard is surrounded by green pastures with cows and sheep grazing nearby, as well as canals. We spent several days in Amsterdam, visiting many museums, churches, the flower market, as well as other street markets which feature fresh fruits, vegys, fish, crafts, and of course flowers! We found parking at the central train station and walking around the city to be quite easy as well as most economical for parking. Other highlights were Palais Het Loo, the Zuider Zee Museum, Zaans Schaans, Kinderdijk, Keukenholf, Alida Hoeve, and several castles, the closest of which is in Muidan about 20 minutes away. When it was time to leave here, we were all sad to do so! Would love to do this same trip over again in a heartbeat, including staying in this lovely cottage!!

Gemütliches Haus in der Nähe von Amsterdam

  • 5 of 5
