Thank you so much for a lovely stay and great advice! This is a nice sized apartment in a great location. We couldn't have asked for a better place or a nicer family to make our stay in Iceland any more perfect.

an excellent place to stay - most enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this apartment for almost a week in March this year. We felt it was a real home-from-home: to us it felt as if it was our flat from which we had been away for a time and then returned. Why did we feel that way? Because of all the little touches that made it a home: a well-equipped kitchen area, books and games, tourist information, toys etc but, above all, we found no need to buy the small things you often have to buy when self-catering: e.g. spices, washing-up materials. There were even food basics (rice, pasta, a tin of tomatoes etc etc) that other visitors had left. We were more than happy to both use some of these and make our own contribution to the store cupboard. We haven’t come across this thoughtful approach anywhere in the UK or in Europe: when you are tired after a long journey or an early start, this and the other welcoming things, is exactly what makes a difference to the start of any holiday.

The location and area is clean, safe and quiet, and convenient for so many places. You feel as if you are part of Icelandic life – the school children pass the flat twice a day, (the school is just down the road) and people go to work and return at the end of the day – so different from being in a tourist area. Within easy walking distance there are plenty of supermarkets, many tourist attractions such as the old harbour area with vibrant café culture, the new Whale museum, the Maritime Museum, the Northern Lights exhibition and really good restaurants and cafes. The Town centre is within walking distance with all its cafes, bars and restaurants and the truly wonderful Viking Settlement exhibition. If you are able to walk with trolley-cases, even the FlyBus is within walking distance. (If you come from there by taxi write the street name down and show it to the driver as the pronunciation is a bit baffling to non-Icelanders!)

Finally, Pall and his family made us feel very welcome and they have lots of good advice and tips they are more than happy to share. Resulting from our interest in one of the early Icelandic settlers (Ingimund), Pall pointed us towards the searchable database where Icelanders can trace their roots, through more than 30 generations back to the 9th Century and the early settlement of Iceland. The Icelanders are justifiably proud of their roots, their country and their heritage, we will remember the hospitality we were given and our visit to Iceland was memorable in more ways than one.

the best place to stay in Reykjavik

  • 5 of 5

A very clean and comfortable appartement in a house holded by very nice people. Everything is near, by foot, and still it is a very quite area. Very good beds for good nights. And a backery and a supermarket only 3 minutes walking.

We were doing the trip with our two teenagers, and they loved the appartment, they feeled at home, as we did also!

We loved the apartment. This is a lower level apartment but it has plenty of windows and natural light. The kitchen is well equipped. We cooked breakfast most mornings. The bed was comfortable and there is unlimited hot water for showers. The property is very neat and clean.

The location is great. There is a grocery store and a bakery very nearby. Museums and thermal swimming pools are also wishing walking distance. We walked

downtown to the harbor area for dinner every day.

It is also possible to rent the hosts' car. This was a great money saver as we only paid for the days that we used the vehicle.

The hosts were very helpful and I highly recommend this property. We hope to visit again in the future.

Great apt: best location, welcoming and tidy

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 people (2 adults and two kids, 11& 13) were very comfortable in Pall and Dagrun's guest apt. The location is great: very close to the old seaport, while still close to the main downtown. The option of the car whenever we wanted it was an extra, welcome bonus! The apartment itself is very homey and clean. We were able to watch Netflix, as well as read the books supplied (every age could find something to interest them!).

Although we missed meeting Pall and Dagrun due to their own vacation, they were extremely quick to respond to any email questions we had.

Use of laundry was also very helpful.

We highly recommend this apt.
