We are located on the banks of the Yellowstone River, 10 miles north of Gardiner, Montana--the oldest entrance to Yellowstone Park.
Our lodge is 4300 square feet, with seven bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a large dining room, full kitchen, large family room with stone fireplace downstairs and a large living room with stone fireplace upstairs. There are two decks, one overlooking the Yellowstone River and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. We have a very large lawn with shade trees also. It is a good place to relax after a busy day of activities.
It is a beautiful and convenient location for visiting Yellowstone Park and the surrounding area. The Park is only 10 minutes away. In addition to seeing Yellowstone, there are many other activities to do and see in the area, such as: horseback riding, hiking, fishing, river rafting, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and hunting. All of these activities are available in the nearby upper Yellowstone Valley. This area is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year.
Winters in the Gardiner area are usually pretty mild. The road through the northern part of Yellowstone to Cooke City is open year-round. This most scenic part of the Park offers unlimited wildlife viewing, particularly of elk, bison and the famous Yellowstone wolves. There is snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in the mountains above Gardiner, Cooke City and in the Park. Downhill skiing is also available nearby at Bridger Bowl and Big Sky.
We built the lodge ourselves with hand-hewn logs, cut and pulled out with our team of Clydesdale horses from the mountains within site of here. The stones for the fireplaces were picked from nearby fields.
The lodge is also available during hunting season. The trail heads in the vicinity offer good elk hunting on the National Forests of the Gardiner area.
If the dates you are looking for are not available, feel free to contact us about our second log lodge. It was built in 2006 and accommodates 15. In the same great area, it is slightly smaller with five bedrooms. It is VRBO listing #151009. It is also sits on the banks of the Yellowstone River.
We handle all of our bookings-no property manager and we like to talk to guests before they make their reservations, in case you have any questions. Give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!

John and I lived in the Gardiner area for 30 years, raising our family here and working in the outfitting business. We have 6 kids and 14 grandchildren. In 1996 we sold our outfitting business in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness area near Gardiner and purchased a guide territory in Northern British Columbia. We spent our summers and falls in B.C. for 11 years. In 2006 we sold the guide area and purchased a ranch where we now live raising cattle and wheat. We enjoy spending time with our family, hunting, taking horse pack trips. I also am a avid scrap booker and quilter.
The lodge was completed in 2001. It is constructed of logs that were harvested locally by John and skidded out with our team of draft horses. They were then hand peeled by our family. We did all of the building ourselves, from pouring the concrete to putting on the roof. John and DruAnn Robidou
The Owner purchased this lodge in 1989
Obviously our location to Yellowstone and the size of the lodge are our biggest benefits. There is also world class fishing just out the back door on the legendary Yellowstone river, along with white water rafting. The scenery is awesome, whether you are seeing it from your car, hiking some of the many trails in the area or from the back of a horse while spending the afternoon with one of the many local horseback outfitters. You have all the peace and privacy of being in the country, while also being just minutes from the parks north entrance. The layout of the lodge gives everyone their own space and privacy. However for those large groups desiring more room we have an additional lodge located just up stream on the other side of our 6 acres. We have a deck overlooking the river and large yard with room for the kids to run. We have hosted numerous family reunions in addition to a few weddings. Staying with us you will see first hand why they call Montana the 'Last Best Place'.
We recently finished our second stay at this beautiful home. The location is minutes away from the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. It is situated right on the Yellowstone River, and it's great to fall asleep at night listening to the sounds of the river. We had 15 people in our family group - and had plenty of space for all. We really like the fact that there is a lot of room for a large family with enough room to have various activities going on at the same time and not feeling like you're running into each other. The property has always been clean and well-maintained. The photos on the website are accurate, but actually don't do the property justice. It is a beautiful setting and well thought out home. It exceeded our expectations the first time. John and Dru are great to work with and very responsive to anything that we have needed. We have thoroughly enjoyed our times at this home, and we refer to it now as our "Yellowstone home away from home". We highly recommend this property - we will definitely be back next year!
Great location and we all loved the Lodge! It was very spacious and was equipped with everything we needed! We loved seeing the bald eagles flying up and down the river!
We just spent a week at the Yellowstone River Lodge in August, 2016. There were 12 (4 couples, 4 singles) and we were perfectly comfortable. The layout is great--there are three separate places to congregate and all are very comfortable. The kitchen isn't fancy but everything works well and we were easily able to cook three meals a day, from scratch, and we ate like kings! We purchased a bulk of our groceries before arriving (in Bozeman), there were two refrigerators and several tables that we could sort everything out on--and the kitchen is in an area by itself so having a lot of stuff out all of the time didn't impact anything else going on. The gazebo next to the river is also awesome, we spent evenings there on several nights. If you like star-gazing it gets very dark in this valley--and it's perfect for laying on the ground and looking at the night sky. Gardiner is close, has a good grocery store that doesn't price-gouge. It also has a couple of okay restaurants--but nothing we found that we would call very fancy. The drive to Livingston to the Rib & Chop House is worth it if you want great steak. We toured the park on most days and it is an easy drive to the north entrance. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get together for a while and kick back and enjoy Montana. It's comfortable, affordable and a great place to stay!
The location was exactly as it is described. There is WiFi and we were able to stream NetFlix (and they also have dish network)--general web browsing isn't very fast though. Dru (the owner) is fabulous and has history in the area--which is great, her customer service is excellent! I would quickly recommend this location to family and friends!
This home was the perfect place and size for our family reunion. We had 8 adults and 4 kids at the lodge from Indiana, Michigan, Florida and California. We enjoyed gathering around the large dining room table but could also always find a quiet spot if we wanted. With two separate hot water heaters for the showers we never ran out of hot water. Two refrigerators came in handy also. The proximity to the north entrance of Yellowstone, a grocery store, restaurants, white water rafting companies, etc was perfect at only 10 minutes down the road. Dru was at the home to greet us on our arrival. When we had a question and called her she promptly returned our call. Thank you for a wonderful week in your beautiful home, Dru! If we ever have another reunion in that area we would book your home again!
We had 8 adults (4 couples) and a total of 6 children ranging from 2-16 years old. The house was perfect for a large group and was very convenient to Gardiner and Yellowstone National Park. The kitchen was well-supplied with virtually every type of pot, pan, skillet and casserole dish imaginable. Wifi was available and satellite TV was fine. We met the owner DruAnn while we were there. The kids enjoyed the large front yard play area and we were even able to see elk on numerous occasions in a distant field. The front porch was perfect for both early morniing and evening sitting. Would highly recommend to others. Thanks John and DruAnn!
3 bathrooms with only two showers made it difficult for a house full of adults.
We had hoped to play & fish on the river at the lodge but there was a steep descent making it difficult for youngsters & handicapped to reach the river bank. The river bank was quite narrow so setting up a chair for fishing was not optimal.
The clothes dryer takes much longer than it should to complete the dry cycle. Also the fridge was not doing a good job at cooling our food. We grilled every evening so needed a good refrigerator.
10 miles from North Yellowstone entrance was a plus - liked being in the country. This is a good place for a family reunion. No air conditioning, but nights were cool in early July.
