A Great Way to See the Real Bora Bora

  • 4 of 5

The coolest thing about staying here is that you get to experience Bora Bora like a local. Wake up to the rooster crows, shop in the town's grocery store, hear the neighbor’s ukulele. We split our stay between this bungalow and the Intercontinental Thalasso. Staying on the island before heading off to the isolated resort gave us a much more complete picture of the true Bora Bora.

The bungalow has a real rustic beach cabin vibe. There was lots of space for our family of 3. A family of 4, or 2 couples, would be totally comfortable. Snorkeling off the deck was a huge plus, just jump in and see tons of fish and coral right there. The kitchen has a full-sized fridge, stovetop, microwave, and toaster oven. It was fine for breakfast and lunch, but not necessarily stocked for making a big dinner. We enjoyed dinner at St. James and the Yacht Club which are about 15 minutes down the road.

Be sure to rent a car from the house manager Nir. He makes it really easy, and you will need a car when you stay here.

comfortable house with great views and water access

  • 4 of 5

My family of 4 had a nice stay in Brando Bungalow One. The house is comfortable but lacking a few basic items like salt and pepper, enough clothes hangers, light blankets and a safe large enough for a laptop. But the over-water location and views are great. Nir was wonderful in providing a car and advice on activities. Unfortunately our stay was marred by a robbery in the house while we slept. Someone came into the house from the water through the porch door that was left open for air. We never heard the intruder in the living room but lost a number of items and were shaken by the intrusion. These things can happen anywhere and did not ruin our otherwise great visit to Bora Bora. We would rent the house again but would take additional precautions to protect ourselves and belongings.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay in Brando's Overwater Bungalow. We are all sorry that you went through the unpleasant experience of a break-in. Please believe me when I tell you that in over 27 years of owning Bungalows in that complex, we have never had a robbery. The caretaker on site has been made aware and is keeping an extra eye out... We always suggest that you lock your doors at night and store your valuables in the provided safe. We do try to stock staples, like salt and pepper, but our clients use them and don't replace them. I hope that you will visit us again I promise to have salt and pepper when you arrive!

Wonderful accommodations!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the accommodations, though the weather affected our water activities. Having a kitchen, barbecue grill, deck, and water toys really helped the situation. If someone wants to stay in over water bungalows, this experience is much less expensive than the 4-star resorts and has much more to offer!!

Nice vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had a nice vacation, two adults and a 12 year old kid. Plenty of space for us and everything worked out well, including the AC which is a must for spoiled people like us. The bungalow gives you an opportunity to enjoy and connect with the island with everything it has, from the high-end services to the local lifestyle. We went in the low season (January) and had good weather except for 2 days that marked the end of a storm. FYI: there are 13 hours of daylight in Jan and 11 in June. Nir was very helpful and I would recommend renting a boat and driving around, the lagoon is fantastic. Expensive but fantastic. Many thanks to Nir and Richard, we hope to come back someday.

Outstanding Experience

  • 5 of 5

Richard, the owner, was so accommodating and informative about both his house and island... made it all so easy! We were looking for the Overwater experience with the ability to cook our own meals, have some privacy, and be able to actually be "on" Bora Bora and not just "looking" at Bora Bora from a hotel atmosphere on a motu. 1450 sq ft (no hotel room here), A/C throughout (but only used it in bedroom), and double sinks in bathroom. Built by Brando, but updated nicely by Richard. The ability to dive into the water at anytime, sit on the deck with a good book, kayak (included- seats 1 or 2) around, snorkel, watch the boats go by, BBQ, and feed the fish (French bread their preference). We did some hiking, snorkeling trip (manta rays, eagle rays, tropical fish eating out of your hand, and coral like you've never seen before). Get a car from Nir (Richard's local correspondent-- he also gives you a phone if you need him for anything-- good guy!) so you can drive around the island (beautiful), see Mt Otemanu up close, and explore... EASY to do, just keep an eye out for the locals who walk and ride bikes, and the dogs who made the original trip with the Polynesions long long ago--- do tend to bark...but in the laid-back island style, never approach you. Matira beach a must!! Water temp 85 degrees and no chlorine! Pack one pair of shorts, swimsuit, t-shirt or tank, and flip flops---washing machine included w/clothes line at end of deck. Marlon Brando was a smart guy... and Richard.

Thanks, Richard!

Car: necessary

The owners of the Black Pearl are proud to announce the acquisition and remodel of both of Marlon Brando's famous Over water Bungalows with FREE WIFI. Jack Nicholson Owned #3. James Michener called Bora Bora 'The most beautiful island in the world. And it is, it really is. Bora Bora is one of the Society Islands in the South Pacific, Tahiti being the largest. It is only a seven and a half hour flight from Los Angeles, and the same time zone as Hawaii. To get there, you take a direct flight to Tahiti and then a 45 minute island hopper to Bora Bora. You are now officially in paradise. Use your state of the art kitchen to prepare a meal, or dine out at the many fine restaurants on the island. The activities are endless if you wish to keep busy, or just lie down on the veranda, listen to the water and finish that 1000 page book you can't seem to finish. Life takes on new meaning when you are surrounded by the serenity and the beauty of Bora Bora. Come and see for yourself!
